Description

Welcome all rascals and tricksters to this marvellous miscellany of mischief and magic!

This playful book explores the world of deception and trickery – both the good and the bad.

Learn the secrets of infamous magic illusions and tricks and discover the stories of some of history’s most notorious hoaxes, pranks, and cons. While some are great fun, others contain a serious lesson . . . after all, understanding scams of the past can help protect you in the future.

Meet infamous pranksters such as Marcel Duchamp (the French artist who pranked the art world), renowned illusionists and escape artists such as Adelaide Hermann (one of the first female magicians), and cunning con-artists such as George C. Parker (the American who "sold" the Statue of Liberty).

The themed spreads explore a range of topics such as made-up monsters, alien conspiracies, doctored photos, disguises and pseudonyms, April Fool's Day pranks, and much more.

If you’re feeling mischievous, you can even follow the steps and tips spaced throughout the book to try your hand at some pranks and magic tricks of your own! But keep your wits about you, because fake hoaxes are included within the pages for eagle-eyed readers to try to spot!

Perfect for readers young and old who delight in a bit of mischief.

What a seriously fun book! This children’s book depicts all manner of magic tricks and historic hoaxes, with fantastic illustrations and design, and an interactive element to test your detective skills along the way. I could definitely see giving this as a gift to the little ones in my life- and further, the adults getting just as much of a kick out of it all.

Thank you to author Tom Adams, illustrator Jasmine Floyd, Quarto Publishing Group – Wide Eyed Editions, and NetGalley for providing this ARC for review consideration. All opinions expressed are my own.

I absolutely loved this. 100% a book aimed at children but I know I would have read this 500 times as a child.

The art work was amazing and was perfect for the book and I loved the elements of magic you could try yourself and with friends.

I also really enjoyed the selection of stories for how interesting they were and also for the range from the traditional to the historical.

I love the book itself but I am not sure about its sales prospect. It is an absolutely gorgeous books full of stunning illustrations and interesting information regarding all kinds of magic. But I suspect that it may only appeal to a rather niche market.

This book has everything from scams to good ol magic tricks. There’s lots of information about various magicians and tricks, as well as some con artists. An enjoyable book for kids around 8 and up.

What a fun book! Any lover of magic, hoaxes, pranks, and general shenanigans is sure to enjoy this. It's a nice mix of the history behind some great mischief makers and also educating readers on how to make their own (innocent) mischief. The reminder that good pranks are harmless and don't hurt anyone or anything is a great addition.

The writing and illustrations in this book are charming and attention-grabbing. They work together to create cohesive look and feel. The writing keeps you invested in learning more, and the artwork draws your eye. This book will especially be riveting for young minds that enjoy creating some good-natured mischief.

Thank you to the publisher and NetGalley for the eARC and for the opportunity to review this book. I am voluntarily leaving this review.
