This is a coming of age story set in the depths of the Louisiana. Tee is a young part-Cajun lad, living with his mother and grandmother and enjoying a childhood many could only dream of. Until he and his friend Chilly get drawn into some nefarious activities as Chilly's brother Pinkie gets a new job that pays suspiciously well.

The story begins with Tee being dropped at his Texan grandfather's house, and it takes almost to the end of the book before we understand why this has happened. But bear with it, its worth the wait. The relationship Tee has built with those around him from his friends to his mother and grandmother and his elderly neighbour is heartwarming and the reader is drawn into his world as he fears full-moon monsters and the problems of getting to like girls.

An interesting, unusual and very readable story which I enjoyed more than I initially thought I might, as the Cajun slang was irritating initially.

I was hooked from the first page and really enjoyed getting through this novel. It had a strong concept overall and how I wanted it to turn out. Penny Poulsen Watson has a great writing style and the characters were what I was looking for from this type of book.
