Description

Regency England

When rebellious aristocrat Cressida and Lord Greville parted ways, they swore never to meet again. Their short marriage had already descended into bitter estrangement, destroyed by scandal and betrayal.

Years later, Greville is a soldier in the Peninsular War and Cressida is following the drum as another man’s lover. Scorned by society, she has learned to survive as a spy – until the day she is caught behind enemy lines, by none other than Greville himself.

Threatened with paying the ultimate price, Cressida is offered a deal: she must entrap and betray the most famous man in England. And Greville, unforgiving, angry and still shockingly attractive, must ensure she complies.

Catapulted to the heights of fame, Lord Byron is just as chaotic, charming and ruthless as he was when he, Greville and Cressida were teenagers. As the three old friends gather for a summer house party in the Scottish Highlands, Cressida is forced to confront her past and ask herself a terrifying question: is it too late for she and Greville to fight for one another at last?

Katy Moran's My Lady's Secrets will leave your mouth hanging. Absolutely one of the best books I'd review in a very long time. This will be the 2024 most anticipated book to read. Go and add this to your TBR lists. Cressida and Lord Greville are a bitter husband/wife duo who will do anything to pin one against another. But sometimes second chance love breaks all heartache and honestly, will they survive with or without one another? Page Turner and at the end, it's a plot twist that leaves you wanting more.

This was a lot more complicated than I initially expected- so many characters and so many different threads to the plot. From following the soldiers at war in Spain, to suddenly an aristocratic house party and then a plot with radicals and smuggling of contraband. It was thrilling and interesting and crucial to it all was the fact that I loved the character of Cressida- she was complex, fiery and I longed for her and Greville to understand each other again. A great read!

This is the first time I have read a book by this author. Her writing style is different.

Greville and Cress story is fraught with scandal, war, deep hurt, misunderstanding and estrangement. 4 years after their separation the couple come back together to solve some mysteries involving blackmail, smuggling, weapons and potential radicals. During this time, they realize the mistakes they both made and while it's hard for them to get over the past, the story ends with forging a future.

I found this book unique, there are no overt declarations of love or indications of a hea.

Loved reading the exciting and engaging story. Even though Cressida and Lord Greville are married and haven't seen each other in awhile, they are sent on a mission together, and the chemistry between the two is off the charts. Read the highly recommended, wonderfully written full of mystery and intrigue, and a must read riveting story.

I enjoyed this story about Regency England. It was during the Pennisula War. There were times I got a little lost because I was not familiar with that era. I learned and really did like it.

This was an excellent read. I loved the main character, Cressida, a forthright, capable and determined heroine, but one suffering from a lack of confidence at times due to perceived flaws. The romance is an unlikely one, and it takes a whole before Cressida can even think to like him, let alone love him. The plot has plenty of twists and turns and involves plenty of intrigue as the war in the peninsula proceeds. It was nice to see an acknowledgment of the social troubles in the regency period as so many novels are merely interested in the Ton and ignore the wider social context. Thought provoking stuff

My Lady’s Secrets by Katy Moran is a fast-paced steamy Regency era spy story about Cressida Cowler and her estranged husband Greville and the famous historical figure Lord Byron.

Cressida is a revolutionary who ruined her own reputation to get back at her husband, Greville. When her peers learn what she has done, she leaves England and travels with soldiers as a spy, learning their skills and finding freedom from the constraints of the Ton.

When Cressida returns to London society, she is not greeted with open arms by her in-laws or society as a whole. Several men make passes at her, her past is brought up by others, and it’s clear she is not viewed as a proper lady by some of the people around her. Her husband, Greville, however, can’t seem to completely let her go no matter how betrayed he feels by her actions.

A lot of names for the same person are used, which feels accurate for the time period as the title and the actual given or family names could be different in courtly life.

I would recommend this to readers looking for a steamy Regency book that is heavy on the romance but isn’t Romance genre.

Step into the enchanting atmosphere of 19th century Scottish coastal charm with this compelling story that is a blend of politics, social drama and personal intrigue. Imagine a lavish ball where love, betrayal, and ambition unfold like a captivating soap opera. The characters, like puzzle pieces, navigate power struggles and complicated relationships. The author vividly paints the coastal scenery and dives into the characters' emotions, creating a cinematic experience with unexpected twists and turns. Prepare yourself for a relaxing yet thrilling read that combines fun and gripping storytelling, making it a truly remarkable and moving journey through the complexities of human life.

I personally liked how each of the characters underwent significant changes, the interactions between them were good, although for me as an Indonesian reader, I had a little trouble with some of the terms, but overall I could understand the content of this novel.

Thank you NetGalley, Katy Moran & Head Zeus Publishing for the wonderful opportunity to be one of My Lady Secret's ARC readers.

A romantic adventure novel with a strong, misundertood female protagonist at the centre. Cressida felt so real and relatable because of her flaws and I was rooting for her and Grenville throughout. It kept me on my toes and I really enjoyed the read!

This is an extraordinary novel - beautifully written, with the sort of vivid world-building I’d normally associate with fantasy rather than Regency fiction. I think the only other book. I’ve read that brings the period to life with the same intensity and complexity is Jonathan Strange and Mr Norrell. After a while I realised what I was reminded of - it’s the work of Dorothy Dunnett, the Niccolo books and the Lymond Chronicles: complicated, angry, imperfect people hurting each other terribly against a superbly researched historical setting. There are inevitable echoes of Georgette Heyer, but Katy Moran goes much darker and deeper. Bridgerton this is not, nor is it a Regency romance. Don’t read it as one and you won’t be disappointed.

I am a big fan of Katy Moran's work, I love her unique voice and the way she fully captures and indices your attention and imagination while reading and this is no different!

It's a unique and compelling story, it's a little confusing, to begin with, but once I got into the flow of the plot and its twists I started to relax into the story. It's intriguing and will certainly keep you on your toes while reading. there are a lot of characters I know some readers find lots of characters a little off-putting, again it takes a little settle into the flow of the plot and to get to know each of the characters but I really enjoyed it!

True that this book could be classed as 'Marmite' I don't think it will be everyone's cup of tea, but to be honest, not every book works for everyone does it? If you've read and loved Moran's work before you know what to expect from her writing and how she spins a story so for loyal readers, this will be another winner, I loved it and will be purchasing a copy!

Overall, an intriguing and fun story with some great characters, all I can say for those still unsure is to give it a go!

As a reader, I was immediately drawn into the world of Regency England in "My Lady's Secrets" by Katy Moran. The tumultuous relationship between Cressida and Greville was captivating from the start. I found myself rooting for them to find their way back to each other despite their past betrayals.
The addition of the infamous Lord Byron added an extra layer of intrigue to the story, and I enjoyed seeing how his presence influenced the dynamics between the characters. The fast-paced plot kept me hooked from beginning to end, with plenty of twists and turns to keep me guessing.
I appreciated the attention to historical detail in the novel, from the lavish house parties in the Scottish Highlands to the strict societal expectations placed on women like Cressida. The author did a fantastic job of immersing me in the world of Regency England, complete with its scandals, secrets, and forbidden romances.
Overall, "My Lady's Secrets" was a delightful read that provided a fresh take on the classic Regency romance genre.

This book is probably going to be among my top 10 favourite books I read in 2024. It has my full recommendations. I hope everyone loves it as much as I did!

I really enjoyed this book! Definitely was not what I was expecting, but in a good way. I also quite like the dual POV aspect of it.

The only negative I have to say about this book is the fact it jumps quite a bit between a few chapters. It does take a second to figure out what is happening in a specific chapter but half of the chapters do not jump.

The story and the Characters were well written. The romance had me sat on the edge of my seat anticipating what will happen next. The story kept me interested the whole time. The writing was beautiful!

I loved this book! It was so unexpectedly charming. My only issue was with the pacing between POVs. The Dual POV lends itself well to most stories in my opinion, but it skips around a lot between chapters which can be kind of disorienting. Once you figure out what is going on though, thoroughly enjoyable!

At first I said no 8 chapters in. But I kept thinking about the characters and how it would end.

I stopped because I was concerned about vulgarity in the book - not a fan. But it was not a lot and didn’t over power the story.

The cover is gorgeous. I enjoyed the story because I love a good story with spies and intrigue.

There is A LOT going on in the book. I enjoyed how it ended and this could almost be a series of the main couple.

Moran clearly put a lot of research into this book, and it showed on every single page. Each piece of information she gave us was perfectly thought through and detailed, and piqued my interest enough to want to research the events of this book further. Some reviews have suggested that there was too much history included and that the reviewers felt like they were missing some vital information, and while I can agree with that, I do like it when a book makes me need or want to do external research to understand the plot. But, I understand that not everyone thinks like me.

However, the writing style, for me, felt a little dry and a little too info-dumpish at times. And for the first 50% of the book, I was considering DNFing because I just found it too difficult to properly immerse myself into the novel and the characters. I had to keep flipping back and re-reading parts of the novel because I couldn't completely understand or even remember certain plot points, and what the characters were actually supposed to be doing. By Chapter 5, I felt like I had to start the book again because so much had been thrown my way and characters were referencing the early chapters and it left me feeling confused and a little overwhelmed. But, I'd say the final stretch of the book, perhaps the final 30%, I finally got into the book, found my stride, and had a great time.

Actual rating was 3.5
