The Way of Water is the conclusion to the Lightness of Water by Toni Cabell. The enemy from the first book has been subdued but the peace and freedom that it brought does not last for long. Problems come in several areas separating Rhees and Solace. A fresh, wildly clever, and impossible to put down sequel to their story. In the battle of good overcoming evil, there is sacrifice, love, loss, and joy. It may be fine to read this second book alone but I found reading the books in order enhanced my enjoyment of this book.

I highly recommend this young adult fantasy book to readers of all ages. Fans of Amberlyn Holland, Paula Brackston, and Katherine Arden will love this author's works. These are other writers whose books I enjoy. Now adding to that list, I want to read anything I can get my hands on written by Toni Cabell.

An ARC of the book was provided by the publisher through NetGalley which I voluntarily chose to read and review. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

This was a great sequel in the Water Witch series, it had the elements that I enjoyed from the first book. It felt like the same world and characters from the first book. I enjoyed how mature this book was and how it grew from the first book. Toni Cabell has a great writing style and I’ve enjoyed each book from the author. I can’t wait to read more.

A emotional ending for this duology. The war is finally over, Rhees and Solace are living together in the palace when a terrible news reaches them. There marriage isn't valid and Rhees is betrothed to the fiance of he late brother, Princess MaudeLyn.
Forced to leave the palace, Solace begins her journey back home. But when trouble rises in the kingdom, the Queen of the People can't turn her back on them.

I really enjoyed this book. The insights in Lace's mind and her personal growth was beautifully written. I laughed and cried with the characters. And even though it was a little too fast, the ending let me satisfied.

I received an eARC for my honest opinion.

Now that the new King of Toresz will be crowned, and everyone is loving their new queen Solace, but there is something in the air that just feels wrong. Its not until Princess MaudeLyn of Censarra comes to the coronation with news of her own that everything Rhees and Solace have put together might come to an end. Having to leave Rhees’ side and go on her own way, she finds herself at a crossroads. What way will she take: to fight for the land and people who she has come to love or to return home to her father?

This was a wonderful way to conclude this great duology. The war is finally over, but is it really? This book is just as beautiful as the first one, you can see the author’s growth from the first book into this one. I enjoy the way Cabell writes, it’s so easy to read, a pace that is satisfying (ups and downs all in the right places), the way that the characters' emotions come across the pages (it really helps the readers to be able to connect with them). I still really enjoy the magic system in this book, and I loved that you got to see Solace divining for water and to see the country folk still loving her.

The plot was amazingly wrapped up, but it was the characters still that really made this book shine. I loved and still do love Solace, even when she was hurting from the drama that happened in the capital, she still hung her head up high and when the choice came to helping the country folk or to let them down, she did what was right and not just because they viewed her the queen, but for the beauty in her that they all could see. I loved that she is still a strong character and even a stronger female character in this book. I loved that in the midst of danger and fear of her life she still thought of the others, and she made sure that no matter what happened that the innocent would have a great life.

Rhees, he is such a big fat poopyhead (that was the best word I could think of), I am so happy how the book turned out, but I really wish that he would have done more or at least fought harder for Solace and the life that he really wanted but in the end everything worked out and to see that Solace was the one that made that happen was even better.

I could go on and on, but just pick up the first book because I promise you will not be disappointed in this duology. This is perfect for the ones that like YA fantasy, romance, action, magic, understanding one’s destiny and duty and of course a good old butt kicking.

I want to thank NetGalley and BooksGoSocial for the opportunity to review this book.
