She mentored Indigenous youth, taught writing at an Asian school and worked in public relations. Along the way she earned a private pilot's license, an NRA sharpshooter rating, and national horse-show honors. Today she still rides her horse, gardens sporadically, and writes mystery novels-enjoying an active "retirement" in beautiful southern Oregon.
