Description

Embark on an astronomical adventure through the solar system with this whimsical picture book that begins with a little rift in one of the most celebrated relationships in the universe.

All friends have disagreements. But when the friends are the Moon and planet Earth, the consequences are pretty cosmic!

After 4.5 billion years together, Moon has had enough of Earth. So, she packs her things and sets off to see what the solar system has to offer. On her galactic tour, Moon sweeps young readers along on a delightful and educational journey.

From scorching Venus to giant Jupiter, Moon encounters the oddities and charms of all the other planets on her journey. But as she reaches the cold and lonely edge of the solar system, she begins to wonder whether Earth is really so bad after all . . .

With vibrant illustrations, a dash of humor, and heartfelt explorations of emotions like anger and empathy, this children’s book about friendship beautifully conveys the value of connection and the invaluable lesson that sometimes what we’re looking for is closer than we think.

Offering a fun and practical review of the planets and their characteristics throughout, The Day Moon and Earth Had an Argument also includes two full spreads at the back of the book filled with fascinating facts about our solar system, information about gravity, how the moon was formed, and more.

I found this quite interesting, I mean it talks about the planets which is a plus but I never saw the planets having an emotion and characteristics that makes them feel more human. I also love the pictures they are perfect and I absolutely love the knowledge from each picture. Over all this is a great book to read to your children. I 100% recommend especially if your teaching them about our galaxy. I would say universe but there's a lot more out there we have yet to discover maybe one day.

The Day Moon and Earth Had An Argument by David Duff is a cute Children’s book with a mix of fun and information.
The Moon and Earth have an argument and Moon storms off. The book is cute and I love the way it gives The Earth, The Moon, and the other planets in the Solar System personalities. This is a quick story but a great length to keep little ones both entertained but engaged. It also gives the opportunity to discuss how the Moon and Earth were feeling and use that in regards to a child’s feelings. The book was cute creative and fun.
The illustrations are bright and fun.

What a fun read today on the Solar Eclipse. I thought this book was super cute. The art reminds me of the movie Trolls when Poppy is scrapbooking. I love the incorporated facts along the way about the planets. I really appreciated the facts page and the solar system page at the end of the book. Definitely recommend to incorporate this with other books about the moon or solar system.

Thank you NetGalley for this advanced copy! Read this on solar eclipse day and it’s such a fun read. Great story and also some fun facts about the moon and solar system at the end!

Given that I was reading this right before the solar eclipse, it felt very fitting to read about an argument between the moon and the earth. The story is a neat concept and the artwork is very simple but effective. I enjoyed how each planet was presented with some quick facts - nothing too overwhelming - and that those facts were what pushed Moon to keep exploring the solar system to find their new home.

The one thing that I found was missing was a glimpse into what it was like for Earth while Moon was off finding a new friend. I'm sure that there were things that would have made Earth regret the fight too and to be willing to take Moon back when he came around.

All in all, this would be a fun bedtime read that could be used to explore the solar system and how all of the planets work together in their very specific ways to keep things turning the way they need to.

I am unsure if this book is truly intended for children, or if it's just a more adult book with juvenile drawings. I say this right off the bat because there were about 2 noticeable moments that I knew would go right over kids' heads. The whole premise of the story is a bit too advanced for kids, as well. For context, the premise is a couple, Moon and Earth, have an argument. Moon leaves to go find another partner, but doesn't find any planet quite as perfect as Earth, and they get back together again.
Now, these notes do not mean that I didn't enjoy this book. I actually really liked it! I thought that the details and colors of the drawings were interesting, and there were some parts that made me chuckle. I also thought that the idea was cleanly executed, and the plot was easy to comprehend.
In a nutshell, I personally had a great time reading this book, I am just unsure about the age group for which it is intended.

This book is great for children who are wanting to learn more about space but in a fun/subtle way. We are a homeschool family and just finished our unit about the planets so it was great timing to read it to my kids. I highly recommend this book to anyone who has children that are interested in space.

This was a super cute and informative book! I loved the illustrations throughout and appreciated that it was educational while still telling a story. The spreads at the end were particularly interesting - I actually learned a few things as an adult that I didn't know. This would be a great book for kids.

What a cute book! And very appropriate after this week’s solar eclipses, while my kiddo is still interested in the moon and solar system. Not only is this book fun and colorful but also provides a lot of information. My kiddo really enjoyed it!

I found this interesting and so cute! It talks about the planets and gives them emotions and human characteristics to help you connect with them. The pictures are so cute, I love all of the planets. This is definitely a book you should check out to read to your children, especially if they show interest in space and the galaxy, it’s full of facts that they can learn and feel so smart telling other people about.

Thanks Netgalley!

My first-grade students loved learning about space. They liked that although it had a ton of facts it was told in a funny story form which was novel. They love reading about science so this was a high-interest topic. The illustrations were very beautiful and unique.

Some things they didn't love: the moon being very yellow (they confused it at first with the sun) and aliens in the solar system because that wasn't very realistic. The Earth was missing an atmosphere (clouds).

Having facts listed at the back of the book was a good idea. The personification of the planets, sun, and moons made the story engaging, as did the Moon's travels through the solar system.
There are a few reasons why I would not adopt or recommend this book.
The moon's color. Why is it yellow?
I understand the Earth and Moon having an argument, but in the end, the Moon says to Earth, " No one likes you." I think a more positive message is needed. It was a missed opportunity to highlight the mutual benefits and interdependence between the Earth and the Moon.

Things that really work: the art, the conflict resolution. Things that don't: the Earth and the Moon seem like they are having a very grown up fight for a kids book. There is a tonal mismatch between text and art. But that might just be me reading it as an adult. The art though, that's fantastic. Adorable and approachable.
