Description

A witch generationally cursed to never find true love sets out to break the spell cast on her family, and must team up with the last person who wants to help her – the witch who set the curse in the first place.

Doreen MacKinnon is doomed to die of a broken heart - if she can’t break the centuries old curse placed on her family.

Three hundred years ago, Ambrose MacDonald, a powerful male witch, fell in love with a MacKinnon. And when the MacKinnon witches forbade him from seeing his love, by secretly hiding her away, he retaliated by cursing the family and its future generations to never find love. But it wasn’t without a cost. Now, Ambrose is imprisoned by those same witches, trapped in a tempest and doomed to outlive everyone he has ever loved.

But Doreen isn’t like the other MacKinnon witches. As the 13th generation of the MacKinnon line, Doreen is one of the most powerful witches in centuries… and one of the loneliest. So when she discovers where Ambrose has been trapped, she releases him to help her break the curse, once and for all. Ambrose agrees to help, but with his own motive: vengeance. He plans to use her as bait to enact his revenge on her family.

Together, they enter a series of trials, which take them to a castle in Scotland, off a cliff, and into a world beyond their wildest dreams. As they work together, sparks start to fly, but soon Doreen must choose how far she is willing to go to break the curse, and what she's willing to sacrifice.

Paige Crutcher's A Circle of Uncommon Witches is a story of adventure, romance, and destiny, that asks: is true love worth the cost?

Great book! A story about ancient curses that still exist today and a witch trying to break them so she can find love with a person with free will can love her back or she’ll die at the age of 30. The characters were well written and the story was captivating.

LOVE LOVE LOVE!!

This book was so good! I genuinely couldn’t get enough of it!
The pace picked up so quickly!
So much happened in one book I feel like it would have been a great duology but is still a great stand alone!

HOLY SMOKES!
It's giving "Masters of Death" by Olivie Blake and fantastic, century-old love curse!

So the beginning was a lot to get the book off the ground and was heavy to read, but then the trials, the twists, THE ENDING- THAT LAST SENTENCE?!

Like WHAT JUST HAPPEN!? Blew my mind wide open! Perfect rain/fall moody reading week we had

Definitely going to be a story that haunts me and will be re-read like certain journals from the novel 😉

Doreen wants real, honest-to-goodness, true love and is willing to die for it. Literally. She & her cousin, Margot are the 13th generation & meant to be the strongest witches yet. Doreen goes on a heroes quest and discovers the truth of love. Whether it's philia, storge, or eros, love has the power to either lift or destroy. Through the mists and quests, Doreen discovers so much about her power, her family, and the history of the three clans.

The beginning was a lot at once trying to build up the world and lay the stones of history. After the first quarter, the book found its footing, and the world grew on a melody. I can't wait to have a physical copy! Oh? That ending- the last sentence- you'll just have to wait and see!!!

A Circle of Uncommon Witches by Paige Crutcher is a captivating tale of adventure, romance, and destiny that delves into the question of whether true love is worth the sacrifices made. The prose is exquisite, painting a vivid and enchanting picture that evokes the feeling of being lost in a dark fairytale. I thoroughly enjoyed the book and found it to be a compelling read. I wished it were a bit longer to avoid the rushed ending and allow for clearer explanations of certain elements. Crutcher's storytelling is mesmerizing and left me wanting more.

The Circle of Uncommon Witches is pure magic. Paige Crutcher’s writing pulls you in with its lush, atmospheric style, making every page feel like you’re walking through a misty, enchanted forest. The emotional depth is breathtaking; Doreen’s loneliness is palpable, and Ambrose’s simmering vengeance adds layers of complexity to the romance. The backdrop is stunningly crafted, from Scottish castles to mystical realms, creating a world that feels both real and otherworldly. This is the kind of book that grips you with its heart and refuses to let go. Absolutely mesmerising!

I fell into this story and was spellbound. Doreen has an epic challenge to face set in place by her twisted family. While her family is powerful they are bound by Secrets. You are literally transported to another world and the creativity is off the charts. Hang on tight for a wild ride through each separate nightmarish challenge.

Witches? Check. Family trauma? Check. Slow burn romance? Check. Trials? Check, check, check.

Ok, I honestly wasn’t expecting to love this as much as I did. It had the perfect blend of witches, curses, mystery, family issues, deadly trials and finding love against all odds. Doreen is a stubborn, strong willed witch who is hell-bent on creating her own path, rather than follow the one every witch in her family before her has been cursed to follow. When she teams up with an incredibly unlikely (and broody) Ambrose, they cannot stand each other but need each other in different ways to accomplish what they’ve each set out to. I won’t give anything further away, but this was the perfect witchy, spooky season read.

A huge fan of what I like to call the practical magic trope (though not really a trope). It was so fun to read!

A centuries old curse has ,Doreen, a 13th generation witch determined to break it so she can marry for love.
She must locate the imprisoned witch, free him and follow the tasks. All of this without the support of her beloved aunts.
Loved the family interaction , the creativity of the tasks and of course the romance!

*No Spoilers* This book can be read year-round but especially during autumn. There was a lot that happens within this story and I would consider it more of a slower/steady pace that really picks up towards the end. I liked the complexity brought to the characters and although the romantic relationship is usually the focus, this book also had a sisterhood bond too that will make you love certain characters even more. I enjoyed the writing and the uniqueness of the magical aspects. I especially love slow burns and enemies-to-lovers which this book delivers on.

Thank you NetGalley and St Martin’s Griffin New York for this opportunity! I enjoyed this eARC.

Definitely had some fun reading it and the magic was interesting. Seeing Scotland in a new magical way and in an astral type plane was fascinating. The characters grew on me the more I read so overall a nice witchy read that has a nice twist on enemies to lovers and second chance romance!

I love Paige Crutcher, I have never been disappointed by any of her books. She just may be the queen of witchy romcom. Tue love is non existent in a family with a generational curse. The only way to break the curse is to find the person who set it. This was a light and fun read!

At its heart, this book is an intricately detailed fantasy land, rich with world building and ripe with creative descriptions. It was a slower paced book, but with the world that lay within, it was easy to get sucked in to each and every little thing about it.

Crutcher details a hesitant romance with the would-be enemy, that flourishes little by little over the course of the book. The trials were reminiscent of Aiden Thomas' Sunbearer Trials series, and made for an interesting addition to the plot. I do so love fantasy books, especially ones set in Scotland, deeply entrenched in their own lore.
