What I appreciate the most about this book is that after giving a few lessons on poetry, I can hand this to any of my 2nd or 3rd graders as a supplement that they will soak up and enjoy. It covers the basic types of poetry (those most likely to be enjoyed by children) and provides clear examples of each. There's a poet in every child and this book will help to draw him/her out.

This poetry book gives a clear and concise overview of various types of poems. Elementary learners will gain insights into great vocabulary as well. The different styles of poems, including haiku, free verse, concrete poems, limericks, acrostic poems are well chosen examples. The colorful page layout is uncluttered and easy to read font. This nonfiction book will be a great Common Core resource in our school.
