Description
All his life, Dr. Peter Northcott has been plagued by disturbing dreams: apocalyptic scenes of angels and demons, and visions of fire and blood. As a historian and scholar, he discounts these to concentrate on his academic life in Rome. He is approaching his thirty-third birthday when a mysterious priest makes contact.
Father Renauld claims to have important information regarding Peter’s destiny. He spins a tale of secret societies, ancient texts, and enemies who not only threaten Peter himself but the whole of creation.
Peter retreats to his adopted parents’ home in England. Even there he is haunted by dreams of Armageddon. His parents beg him to listen to the priest’s story. Can these intelligent people really believe in a war of cosmic proportions? It seems so, and now Peter must question their motives in adopting him all those years ago.
Reluctantly, Peter visits a cave to retrieve an ancient scroll. Records of fire, murder and secrets echo Peter’s visions but can he really be the divine star: the saviour of the world? The idea is unthinkable, but what if it is true? What if he is the Astrum Divinus?

This was an interesting book that I enjoyed overall but I felt it could have been tweaked just a bit to be more friendly to the average reader. The main storyline of the book is disrupted fairly often with large swaths of political and religious history. While some amount of this was necessary, I feel it would have made for a more enjoyable read if it was presented in a more summary fashion, and the relationship between Michelle and Peter brought to life earlier in the story. This would have allowed the connection between them to be much richer and allowed the reader to be much more invested in it. In addition, it felt like the final confrontation in the mountain fortress was a bit rushed and could have been developed more.
Having said all that, while I may have skimmed over some of the longer historical background bits, the story was interesting and kept my attention until the end. I found it a very worthwhile read and would recommend it to others.

Fascinating and enthralling story stretching from Medieval times to the present day. The book gradually climbs to a crescendo with all the piece4s coming together, then descends to peace and tranquillity. Kept me glued to my cahir and completely involved from beginning to end. Excellent
