I loved her first book The Saxon Bride in The Norman Conquest Series and The Gentle Knight did not disappoint me! Our heroine Bridhit’s Irish father is on his death bed and orders to become a nun for her safety; she has dreamed of marriage and children so she devastated, but she is the dutiful daughter and does the honorable thing goes with her Uncle Ronan across to England to the Priory. Our hero Peter of Normandy is a great warrior and is the King’s man, but he is a troubled man. Sir Peter harbors his own grief and guilt over the death of his mistress and his unborn child. Peter feels he is cursed because his mother also died giving him birth; he feels so undeserving of love. He is sent on a mission into England. Sir Peter comes across the party traveling to the Priory and realizes everything is not as it should be! Join Bridgit and Peter on their adventure I’m sure you will love this medieval love story filled with passion and intrigue!

*I received this ARC from Netgalley*

*While part of a series this book can be read as a stand alone*

What a fantastic surprise this book was! The Gentle Knight by Ashley York is the second book in her Norman Conquest series but read completely as a stand alone while maintaining its connection to the first book in the series, The Saxon Bride. Superbly written with well-developed characters I could not put this book down. A wonderful hero, lovely heroine and wretchedly awful villains kept me on the edge of my seat till the very end. Looking forward to what this very talented author has in store next for her readers!

MY THOUGHTS:
I read "The Irish Warrior" first. It’s characterized as a long novella so I thought I’d try a new author to me by starting out with a shorter read. I loved it and so when the author offered widgets of "The Saxon Bride" and “The Gentle Knight” I immediately accepted her offer. All of these books are quite easily read as standalone stories. There are some of the same characters in all of the books. This one is the story of Peter of Normandy ,and Brighit MacNaughton. I started reading this book and I just couldn’t put it down. A fast paced story that is filled with danger, passion, intrigue and love. I recommend the "Norman Conquest" series to anyone who loves Medieval romance.
I gave this book a 4.5 star rating

I received this book in exchange for an honest review.
'The Gentle Knight' by Ashley York is book two in the "The Norman Conquest" series. This is the story of Brighit MacNaughton and Peter of Normandy. I really have enjoyed Ms. York's writing and can't wait to read more of her books.
Brighit's father is dying and he has decided to send her to a church to become a Nun. Reason are that her father thought that is what her mom would have wanted and I don't think he wanted her to end up in the enemies hands as a wife. Brighit is upset to leave home but comes along with her father wishes. Brighit's Uncle is suppose to take her to the church which is a distance away. Brighit doesn't really know her Uncle and really none of her family does. Not to long after they start out her Uncle sends her with three other men who are no relations and are new people to her. Brighits Uncle just leaves her with them. Brighit starts to realize that this won't be a easy trip with the new men. But then comes Peter who may be able to help her but Brighit is slow to trust anyone now.
Peter knows after meeting Brighit and the three men that she is with things are not what they seem. So Peter takes the stand that he will go with them so insure they have 'safe travels' to the church where Brighit is to become a nun at. Peter has been having some issue himself when he arrives to late to save his mistress and she dies in childbirth. Guilt has been bothering him for not being there in time. Can Peter get Brighit there safely? Will Peter and Brighit go there separate ways as they both plan too?

The Gentle Knight ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
(The Norman Conquest #2) written by Ashley York

As Brighit MacNaughton goes off to the Priory with her uncle Ronan she is completing her duty as an obedient daughter. Although very apprehensive she has always done as others have commanded.

As her trip progresses, she is handed off to some hired men by her uncle. Brighit is verbally abused and manhandled by the leader. When Peter of Normandy comes upon this suspicious pack of men with such a fair maiden he is immediately on the alert. After realizing what the situation is for Brighit he offers her his protection as a Knight of the King and he assumes the job of taking her to the Priory.

Peter quickly recognizes his attraction to Brighit but tries to curb his desire. Brighit feels very strongly towards him as well. She wishes to follow her father's wishes but desires one night of passion with this man. I loved the two main characters and their connective feelings. This was a beautiful romance written by a very talented author.
