Thank you NetGalley and Lisa Edwards for the most important children’s book of the year, Panda’s Guide to Mental Well-Being. As an elementary school Health teacher, I am always looking for read-alouds that focus on both physical and emotional health. This book beautifully covers both aspects of mental well-being with delightful illustrations, thought-provoking questions, and wonderful ways for children - and pandas- to maintain a healthy and happy life.

If I could give this book ten stars, I would! I can’t wait to add this treasure to my classroom library.

Panda is the perfect animal to teach us all about mental well-being in this Healthy Habits series! This book is wonderful for kids of all ages, it's a gentle reminder to practice mindfulness in all things but especially with your feelings. Panda explores healthy eating, learning how to do new things, getting enough sleep, what to do with our worries, being kind to others and so much more. This book is an amazing way to teach children mindfulness and it's a good reminder for their grown-ups too.
Thank you to NetGalley for the opportunity to read this free ARC in exchange for an honest book review.

Thank you for this arc!

I’m a huge advocate of mindfulness and prioritizing mental health the same way you would physical health, so I was excited to see a book like this targeted to children.

I thought the author did a great job of using Panda to explain to kids how to treat their bodies and minds well. Including things like being honest when you’re worried, being kind to yourself, and taking space when you’re angry.

I think the recap at the end is very helpful too. The only thing I didn’t love was the phrasing of “feeling happy means that your mind is healthy” because it feels like it’s unintentionally implying that if you aren’t happy then your mind is unhealthy.

This is a wonderful book for helping kids think about what all we do to take care of ourselves, body and mind, and how to treat those around us. Following Baby Panda as he goes through his day and routine, kids learn all about different things that make us feel good. We really liked this book and would definitely recommend it!

A very cute and practical way to open up conversations with your child about mental health. Panda and her Little Panda give us ideas as they go about their day. These include: getting a good breakfast, creating routines, sleep hygiene, telling the truth, trusting someone to listen to your concerns. There is a strong emphasis for the parent/child relationship. In the back is a section with suggestions for how to use the book to interact with a child or group of children.
I would buy this book for a friend and their child because of how realistic the ideas are and how approachable the guide is.

I received an e-copy of this book from the publisher and Netgalley. Thank you. These are my honest thoughts and review about this book.

Is so good to have this reminder about little things that can make us happy everyday, and how we can live a happier life, learning with animals. I don't have children yet, but when i do, i will definitely read this to them, because even as an addult, i loved this so much.
The illustrations were so cute and wholesome, and descriptions of the panda's everyday life was very nice to read. I can't wait to read the other books in this series and buy them for my future children!

My son is a huge panda lover, so reading this book was an easy sell for him. But the fun part was the additional conversations we had as we read the book regarding the varying mental health topics diecussed. The only downside I have is I was personally did not like the font utilized for the book.

This was a sweet book about creating good sleeping and eating habits. It was well written and didn't feel like you were reading an instruction manual. Good advice presented in an engaging way for young children. I highly recommend it and plan to look into the other books in the series.
I received this galley from NetGalley.

This book does such a cute job at starting a conversation regarding what we can all do to help our own mental health! It’s put in a way that can be easily understood by children and I enjoyed the suggestions at the end for how to best approach the subject with children and how to break things down in discussion afterwards. The artwork was very cute and I enjoyed all the drawings of the animals!

This children's book strikes a lovely balance between being fun and educational. The questions sprinkled throughout are engaging enough to keep young readers thinking without feeling overwhelming, which makes it a great choice for curious minds. The artwork is especially charming—adorable, approachable, and sure to draw in kids and parents alike. On top of that, the information presented is clear and informative, helping children learn while enjoying the story.
That said, a couple of design choices held it back slightly. The font used made some of the letters look odd, which could be confusing for early readers. Also, the helpful suggestions included at the end of the book might have worked better if they were integrated directly into the relevant pages, alongside the questions they relate to.
Overall, it's a sweet and smart read that’s both visually appealing and mentally stimulating—just a few tweaks away from being truly outstanding.

This book is so cute! I loved the illustrations and the points it was trying to get across. I also thought it was helpful to have the talking points at the end for adults.

“Panda’s Guide to Mental Well-Being” is part of the Healthy Habits series from Windmill Books. In it, Panda teaches her cub (and young children) about healthy habits to support mental wellness. Healthy habits include rest, talking with others, eating well, exercising, and more.

Books such as “Panda’s Guide to Mental Well-Being” are important to add to a child’s library at home. The target audience, Pre-K to first grade, will follow the adult’s lead and grow to feel comfortable talking about how they are feeling emotionally if they are exposed to these ideas early. The book includes a glossary and reading guide for adults.

This story is great for kids who need to be more aware of their own mental health and is a great opportunity for the adults in their lives to bring up important health topics.

I received an advance review copy for free from NetGalley and Rosen Publishing Group|Windmill Books, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

This book is highly age-appropriate and inspires kids to prioritize their mental well-being early on. Another thing that makes this book so great was just how perfectly relevant it was to a younger audience. All of the tips mentioned in this book will make sense to readers and are very easy to do, which lets this book really achieve its goal. Every single example that the author used will also serve readers beyond childhood. The author clearly knows that it's important to put your mental health first no matter your age. Lastly, the illustrations were utterly adorable! The illustrator really let their creativity shine in every aspect of the illustrations, and the book was so vivid and lively because of it. Bravo!!

Adorable and meaningful
Positively cute illustrations along with lovable character bring the story to life.
We follow Panda and her little cub as they play and go about their day. Along the way they learn and talk about healthy habits and how it can help our mental well-being. We learned all about following routine, things that make us happy and many ways to take care of our mental well being. It gently gives the message that everything is connected to our health and wellness. I love the approach the author uses to teach little ones in a creative, fun and calm way. It gives us many opportunities for talking with your little ones about emotions and more. It is great to share at home or in a classroom.

Enjoy this little adventure and find some happiness together.

One of a set of eight books (first published a couple of years ago by Hodder & Stoughton) that in this instance really charmingly and easily guides us through self-care tips. Here is a panda doing what she can to look after her baby panda, and so she fixes a routine, ensures a healthy diet, and has taught honesty, gratitude, and the ability to talk things through. Not only that but before we see what we ought to be doing along those lines, we see the pandas doing it, and so we get trivia about them, such as how many hours they need to spend out of every 24 eating, and that they converse in ultrasound.

We get the text that discusses the pandas – and by default us, and a recap, and a glossary and other things, as well as notes for the parent or teacher using this. It's really attractive, with busy animals in the background making us want to spend time with the pages and learn from them, but more than enough space for the text to fit and work in. I find nothing to fault – this might as well get five stars.
