Gone To Aragon takes the reader into and out of the sunlight in Spain
via the author's easy-going account of taking risks and finding contentment in
the wilds of Aragon.
Ben Tideway pulled up stakes, burned bridges and fled from London to
have a different life in a little pueblo in Aragon, NE Spain. The book is not a clichéd telling of
hilarious incidents with builders and plumbers.
It is focused on adapting to the ways of living in a small community in
a rural part of a foreign country. A lot
of ground is covered in the factual narrative which is interspersed in a
seamless way with set pieces about some of the more colourful characters
encountered during the twenty-five years he has spent in Aragon. This is a story about a man lucky enough to
have found what he was looking for.
Ben Tideway
is a freelance writer who has had a varied life and moved around a lot before
putting down roots in the back waters of Aragon where he lives with his wife
and a cat called Charley.

This is such a refreshing change from the stereotypical Spain of most travel books, this is real Spain. Writing with humour, this is about an area often not visited or written about. Sure to make readers smile and understand better what it's like to live in Spain with the locals and not on the "Costa".The descriptions of space, how vast Aragon is, vultures, traffico cops, it's all there and gives such a sense of the place. I will read read this again and still find more to discover. It's a brilliant read

Informative, interesting and engaging. I learned so much about an area I had hardly heard of before and one that I now feel I know well.
Always with a great sense of humour this book touches on the history and current affairs on Aragon.
For me one of the best travel books I have read.

An interesting book and wonderfully written about the authors experiences in Spain. How he and his wife adapted to and took on many different challenges. An interesting account of the flow of Spanish life, what originally made him decide to chose to live there and the different characters he met along the way made for a rich tapestry of so many individuals. Very easy to read and takes the reader with him as he describes the different places he has visited, He also reflects on England and how life has changed...

I loved this book. He is living my dream of moving to another county and all the good and bad that comes with it. I enjoyed all the bits about his small town but also the history he shared. I liked that he also included the stories of people and himself growing older. I enjoyed it so much I didn't want it to end.

A really enjoyable read, providing quirky insights into life in North-Eastern rural Spain, with bonuses in the form of easy to read snippets of Spanish history.

The author and his wife move to Spain after she gets a job there and set about making it their home. At first I really liked this book with its quirky mix of humour, history, people, landscape etc. The book lost a star because at times it felt as if readers were being lectured as to what they should or should not be doing. Possibly it is just how I feel and others might not even notice!
