I love this authors work and adored the idea of a new series featuring Mermen that are frankly not the usual fairytale type heroes! No these beautiful and dangerous Mermen are far more likely to cause nightmares. This may be the first of the trilogy but it packs a wallop and now I need more !
Liv has survived a shipwreck only to find herself adrift in a life raft and experiencing hallucinations as she slowly loses her hold on life. Well she's seen it all , her mother, sisters and now yep that's a man no , make that a gorgeous man swimming towards an island that doesn't exist . Yes Liv knows she's dying from dehydration but when the hunk swims up to her then her life takes a whole new turn!
Roen is beyond annoyed that one of his ships has disappeared and yet strangely enough it happened right where an old map he's inherited from his late father shows an uncharted island. No it doesn't appear on any other map but Roen is determined to get his property back. What he wasn't expecting was to discover an actual island with savage warriors guarding it and then of course there's Liv! She doesn't belong there and usually Roen wouldn't get involved but secrets are revealed that put a whole new spin on things!
First I have to say I love that cover! Ok that being said it's the contents that's important so without (hopefully) too many spoilers here's my take on this book. It's the first of a trilogy and does end on a cliffhanger so you have been warned . I suspect more than one Merman will find Luv attractive but it's Roen who fascinates Liv as this book progressed. She is very good at reading people and sees the depths inside the hardened businessman that he's become. Roen is used to taking charge and will fight for what he wants but in this hostile situation that he finds himself in everything he thought he knew about life is about to come crashing down It's no secret that the plot revolves around Mermen and an island and if like me you've ever seen the TV show Lost you will quickly realise that the most bizarre things can happen on mysterious islands . So a romance? Not strictly but certainly the possibility is there and there's some steam. No happy ending I'm afraid just more questions and I did kind of miss some of the snark I usually associate with this authors work but a good start to what could well turn into a fabulous trilogy I was gifted a copy in exchange for an honest review

Wow....I really have no idea what to say about what I just experienced. I read and loved this author's King's series, so I knew whatever she did next would likely have awesomely suspenseful super cliffhangers and be completely outside the realm of "normal" thinking. Honestly, when I first read about her Mermen concept I was pretty turned off. I couldn't imagine how I was going to get into a story about guys with tails. I debated even requesting the review copy I was given by Net Galley. I was just that much on the fence about it. Although I was totally right about the out of the box cliffhanger, I could never have imagined how the actual story would play out.

First of all, the mermen were sexy massively built men with no tails or scales in sight. Secondly, they are savage, brutal, and should be avoided at all cost unless you have a total death wish. While I'd love to explain this in much more detail, I enjoyed all the little shocks to my system and warps to my brain along the path of this story and refuse to deny the rest of you the pleasure of being thrown for a complete loop along with me.

I will say that Roen is drool worthy in that bad boy/good guy kind of way. He is not soft; he is not nice; he is not your typical hero. Liv is brave, resourceful, and intuitive. The two of them are not a pair you would normally put together, but somehow, through the pull of a very mysterious island, the two come together in a massive display of chemical sparks. The problem is that Roen isn't the only one who wants Liv. Some want her dead, some want her captive, and others just want her in their bed. What is so special about Liv? Maybe we will find out in book two...or maybe not.

If you enjoyed the King's series, I think you will love Mermen. Personally, my brain will probably still be trying to figure this one out when book two is released and throws me way off base again. It was everything I expect and enjoy from Mimi Jean Pamfiloff.

Hooked, line and sinker! Yes, once again our author has me hooked on a story. I do not read fantasy or paranormal (usually) but her plotline is so intriguing, I cannot help myself.

Don't want to spoil this experience for anyone. I think you have to go in and read this with no preconceived ideas. You will enjoy this book much more as you and our heroine, Liv, discover the mystery of these men and their infamous island.

Just to clue you in a little bit, Roen, our male hunk hottie, is perceived as ruthless, selfish and petulant. He is the ruler of his business empire and takes "no prisoners". Everything is done to his will. The only people he loved are now long gone. His mother dies years ago when he was still in his teens. His brother dove off a bridge and was never seen again. After those loses, he has shut his heart to anyone that would dare approach him.

Liv is a nice girl, from a nice family. She is super smart and studious. When our two main characters find themselves on this mysterious island, things happen that have no explanation. Uncovering the mystery of an island full of men and no women is just what a sociology student would love to analyze. Beware! Some secrets were never meant to be shared. There are consequences beyond belief.

I am off to buy Mer Madmen (which is Book 2 in this trilogy). I cannot wait to find out what happens next.

Overall, I liked parts of this book, but keep in mind it is part of a trilogy, and since this is the first one there is a ciff hanger at the end. I liked the two main characters, and wished there would have been more of them together. There is a lot of creepy and darkness on the island, and a lot of things that are not explained well, but hints that there will be more to come is obvious. I would give this a 3.5 if I could, as the darkness is a little heavy at times, but overall I would recommend this book, and look forward to the next book in the series.
