Thanks to Netgalley and St. Martin's for the pre-release copy of Night Terror by Vincent Ralph. Below is my honest review.

I very much enjoyed the first novel, Dead Fake, in Vincent Ralph's new Bleak Haven YA horror/thriller series, but I think this one was actually way more fun. This one felt more like a horror type novel than the first, which was more mystery/thriller, and I really enjoyed seeing the characters rise to the occasion and fight for their lives while trapped in a locked mall with the villains. It was creepy and would make a decent movie (as would the first), so I'm hoping Ralph and his agents pitch this to Netflix to do like they did with the Fear Street trilogy.

This one takes place in the 80s, whereas the first novel was set in modern times, and Night Terror tells one of the stories alluded to in Dead Fake - how the history of the town is rife with tragedy and murder.

I liked the cast, especially Grace, and this one was definitely a win for me.

All in all, a solid entry into this new series about a town plagued by violence, blood, sadness, etc. Book one, Dead Fake, is set to be released at the same time as this one, with hopefully more to come.

If you're a fan of the horror/thriller genres and 80s nostalgia, then you'll enjoy this foray into the YA horror space. Fans of the Fear Street trilogy about the same story spread over different time periods, then you'll enjoy this series as well.

Four "why did you read from that cursed book, dude?!" stars.

My Thoughts

In my opinion the second book was an easier, and for me, faster read.

Bleak Haven the second time around follows a new set of high school students with an entirely new storyline as well.

The creepiness is amped up and so is the action as Noah and the small group of teenagers find themselves facing something deadly they were in no way prepared for.

A switch in both time period and character POV that leaned more heavily on town lore than first book but had its own story to tell that hopefully will satisfy others as much as it did me.

Also hopeful that this is not the last story set in this particular town because I would love to see how things are handled next.

As someone who already deals with night terrors, this book hit different. Set in the 80s, the town’s haunted by too many tragedies...the Lullaby Man who stole kids, the Holt family murders, and whispers of a cursed book that never stops burning. Noah doesn’t buy into the town’s obsession with grief, but when a late-night bookstore shift turns into a nightmare, masked intruders, blood, and something hunting them through the mall, it’s pure chaos. Creepy, nostalgic, and gory in all the right ways.

BROOOOOOOO!!!! BOTH of these books hit so hard. They are so different from each other, but are both soooooo good! They both take place in the same town, but while the first one is a murder-mystery-thriller type book, this one is a thriller from the 80s which takes place in a mall. And it has zombies. I mean, what more could you ask for?! Highly highly HIGHLY recommend this series!!!!!

Welcome to Bleak Haven, a town that has a history with serial killers, baby snatchers , and now zombies. It's definitely not a town I want to live in, but it sure makes for a good story.

The writing reminds me of the old Goosebump stories, but with more action and gore. Our story starts with an urban legend about a "burning book" and ends with mayhem and disaster. With the exception of the first few chapters, this is non-stop action.

Although this is the second book in the series, it can be read out of order or as a stand-alone.

Thanks to Net Galley and the author for a pre-release copy in exchange for an honest review.

Night Terror is the second book in Vincent Ralph’s Bleak Haven series, and I loved it even more than the first. It reminded me of Fear Street and Castle Rock, but with its own twist. The story is fast, creepy, and full of supernatural horror this time with zombies!

We follow Noah, a teen who gets caught in a terrifying night at the mall when masked attackers unleash something awful from a cursed book. The mix of urban legend, small-town secrets, and gory action kept me hooked from start to finish.

You don’t need to read book one first, and the new characters are great. There’s even a bit of romance, and some surprising character moments that added depth.

Vincent Ralph is now one of my favorite horror authors. This series is scary, fun, and perfect for fans of R.L. Stine or Stephen King but with less gore. My only complaint? I need the next book now!

5 out of 5 stars(Noah first person)
YA Thriller/Horror
This is the second book in the Bleak Haven series which is a town that is known for creepy things always happening.
Noah works at a bookstore at the local mall. When he is on shift, three masked figures target his workplace. These people aren’t looking to hurt anyone but instead they are searching for an item called The Burning Book. Which could just be an urban legend? Or is it?
Noah must team up with the other hostages to escape the mall before he ends up on the wall of deaths that hangs in the halls of his high school.
