Description

Grownups say, “Be on your best behavior." But in the animal world, rudeness sometimes rules the day!

Scarlet kingsnakes lie; they pretend to be venomous coral snakes to scare off predators. And hippos make a mess; they spray waste to defend their territories. For these animals and many others, being rude can be a matter of survival. Author and science educator Jessica Fries-Gaither introduces seven human behavior rules and the animals that break them!

This is a fun, humorous, and informative nonfiction book about animal species and their behavioral habits. What may seem rude or shocking to humans is just part of nature. Animals do things that we may see as gross, but it may have a perfectly rational explanation. This is a fun way to learn about nature and to see that we're not so different from other species in some ways.

I highly recommend this non-fiction picture book for schools and libraries.

I wouldn't really call these animals rude as much as clever and adaptable. A lot of the odd behaviors here are for safety, and some of them are really gross, so it would be a lot of fun to read this with different groups of kids. The illustrations are engaging, clear and gorgeous, and the animals are so interesting.

This was a really fun book to read! All of the facts that were in this book were very unique and super interesting, which allows readers to stay engaged the entire time they read, which is great. Additionally, a lot of the information in this book was made up of facts that you definitely don't hear every day, which makes this book highly fresh and unique. Yet another great thing about this book is some of the facts were funny, which will easily make kids giggle while reading, and also make them want to share what they've learned with their friends any chance they get. Lastly, all of the images matched the writing perfectly, which also added a visual element to what this book was trying to teach readers. This is an absolutely amazing book and I have no doubt that it will be a total hit! Bravo!!

Fun, gross, interesting, fascinating, wierd, strange, and wonderful animal behavior, primarily for survival strategies, but which, no doubt, will strike children as rude, is well presented in this book. It is a science book, but I found myself reading some of the examples to my wife, much to her consternation, who asked me, "Are you going to read me the entire book?" Well, up to that point, I had planned to do just that. But I did not continue. Instead, I receomment you pick up this wonderful kid's book and have a great (and sometimes revolting) time.
