Don't miss The Farmers' Market Mishap, the sequel to The Lopsided Christmas Cake!
We meet single thirty-something identical twins Thelma and Elma Hochstetler in "The Lopsided Christmas Cake". Even though they may look identical, they have very opposite personalities. Thelma is absent minded and carefree, while Elma is tidy and serious.
They leave their parents home and store in Sullivan, Illinois to their inherited home and store in Topeka, Indiana, where their adventure takes place. And they both will need a lot of elbow grease, too.
Then we meet late thirties bachelors and best friends, Joseph Beechy, harness maker, and Delbert Gingerich, carpenter, in near by town of LaGrange, Indiana. They too have opposite personalities and have been friends since their teen years.
All four characters end up at the same event in Shipshewana, Indiana, a cooking show, where everything the contestants make will be auctioned off, and the proceeds will go to families who have medical expenses.
Will there be love at first sight?
Can the twins manage their new place in Topeka?
And just how do you get a lopsided Christmas cake?
Wanda E. Brunstetter and Jean Brunstetter in my book have out done themselves with "The Lopsided Christmas Cake". I am a fan of Wanda's so I already knew that this book would be good. This is the first time that Jean has written any material and she did an excellent job, which I am sure she got a lot of pointers from Wanda. Wanda E. Brunstetter and Jean Brunstetter have my vote in that they both can keep co-authoring books together and I look forward to more books by them in the future.
I received a free copy of this book through NetGalley for an honest review. No money was exchanged. This is my honest review in my own words.

Another enjoyable Amish story. It was a little unusual that two maiden sisters inherited their grandparent's home and moved so far away from their parents. The twins may have been identical in looks but their personalities were not.

Do You like Lopsided Christmas Cake?
Lopsided cake might not sound wonderfully appetizing, but you’ll enjoy the flavor this book has to offer. This light-hearted Christmas-themed book is about unmarried twins, Thelma and Elma, who take on new experiences in life when their grandparents , who live in another state, pass away and leave their home and store to them.
The girls’ lives take on many twists and turns when they move to take over their grandparents’ deteriorating house and store, meet two handsome bachelors, and enter a cake baking contest. Just when you think you have the storyline figured out, you are surprised at what happens.
I recommend this to anyone who enjoys “light” reading for the holidays.
I received this book from Barbour Publishing Inc., through NetGalley for my honest review.

The Brunstetters give us a look into the Amish way of life and show us that not all Amish people are the same, even identical twins. The recipe for the famous “lopsided cake” is included at the end of THE LOPSIDED CHRISTMAS CAKE. This is a very quick read and I was left wanting more. I hope there is a sequel in the future. Throughout most of the story, I felt like I was right there with the twins dealing with life's ups and downs. I love how the authors chose a story line that we don't usually get in Amish stories. Twins in their 30's who aren't married and living alone. This was the perfect way to spend the afternoon.

"The Lopsided Christmas Cake"
By Wanda Brunstetter
Synopsis:
Twins Elma and Thelma agree to bake for the Amish charity auction---then find out they have to do it onstage! They bumble through cooking chaos and create a hilariously imperfect pastry. But it attracts bids---and bachelors. Could a botched Christmas cake really be the key that unlocks romance for the Hochstetler sisters?
Wanda Brunstetter has been writing fantastic books in the Amish fiction genre for many years. In this new Christmas book, Jean joins her to compose a humorous tale that causes the reader to smile, giggle and yes, even laugh out loud. Many feelings arise as you read this delightful tale that appeals to the romantic side of every one of us. Although the title alone makes one smile, this adventure has one also thinking of the ideal romance that all females desire, along with the challenges one encounters on the path to happiness.
The idea of single twins sharing their lives and adventures is a very different twist to Amish fiction. This book is definitely NOT your typical Amish tale of boy meets girl, get married, have a family. The desire to marry and have a family could be the thing that divides these two precious ladies. Their two lives have been so alike up to this point. I could easily identify with them and felt their confusion and trials as they attempt to deal with rather unusual situations. They were described so realistically that I felt they were near and dear to me. What lovable and yes, sometimes silly women!!
The plot was very different from the norm. Very simple yet appealing and touched my funny bone!! This book is an easy read but keeps one guessing throughout as you encounter little twists and turns.
Wanda has once again written a winning novel. I would highly recommend this book for a light enjoyable read. A great book to keep one amused during the Christmas season.

Laughter is good for the soul and this book is filled with humor! Elma and Thelma have quite an amusing presentation at the Cooking Show to Benefit Amish Medical Bills but that doesn't stop Joseph and Delbert and a mystery man from bidding on the lopsided Christmas cake. The cake gets the highest bid of any item of the day in fact! The bachelors, Joseph and Delbert, want to get to know the cute identical twins. The antics of the couples as they court are at times amusing and sometimes, the relationship issues made me sad. I won't spoil things for readers as to why but I loved this book and had to keep reading until the very end without stopping! This book really captured my attention from the very beginning. I admire the twins and the determination they show as they take over the store and home their grandparents left to them. I am not sure that I would have handled myself with the courage that Elma and Thelma showed. I rate this book 5 stars and highly recommend it. The recipe for Grandma's Special Christmas Cake is included as well. I received a copy of this book from netgalley in exchage for my honest review.

What begins with sadness, after the untimely death of their grandparents, the twin Elma and Thelma are heading towards an entirely new adventure in their lives. Their grandparents have left them their home and store in Indiana. The girls are thirty-two and unmarried, as usual they are sheltered Amish woman who until now lived at home with their parents.
When they arrived at their new home, they are rather surprised how much in disrepair it is. They have a rodent problem and rotting boards in the house, and leaking pipes. Oh dear, and they must learn to cook on a woodstove, but the woodstove is going to be the key to many new changes in their lives and possible romance.
So many chuckles here, and yet a moving and loving story, that when the final page turned, I wanted more. This one is a short quick read that will leave you wanting to move to Topeka and live with these sweet sisters. Enjoy!

This was the first book that I have read by Wanda and Jean Brunstetter. I really love the title since I love to bake and let's be honest, not all of our baking endeavors turn out just right. Being set during one of my favorite times of the year, Christmas, was an added bonus.
The story centers around Elma and Thelma Hochstetler. At 32 years of age, the twin sisters are considered spinsters in the Amish society. When their grandparents pass leaving the girls their home and store in another state, the twins look at this as a way to possibly start a new life. When they arrive, they realize that starting over may be a little more difficult than they thought. With a store to run and a house to repair, the twins begin to feel overwhelmed. Maybe they should have sold everything and returned to their parents house. Enter in a shy bachelor and his best friend, things start to look up. Will love find one or both of the twins? Will one keep a long ago made promise even if it means giving up happiness?
I would love to see a sequel to this book. I enjoyed getting to know the twins and their suitors but felt that the ending was a little bit rushed. What will happen after the new changes? Some of the character lines were left hanging. However, the development of the story kept me turning the pages.

The Lopsided Christmas Cake by Wanda E. Brunstetter and her daughter-in-law Jean Brunstetter is a fun Christmas themed Amish title. This book is a quick read and one that had me laughing and enjoying my time reading. The title sets the stage for this book and gives a glimpse into what is in store for the Hochstetler twins.
I love how Wanda can pull me into a story and this one was so easy to get sucked into. I'm not sure what it is that she does, but I almost instantly got sucked into this story and forgot what was going on around me-only to find myself with the Hochstetler twins.
This book is shorter than many of Wanda's books, but it was an enjoyable, quick read.

A wonderful and thankfully unpredictable story. The book was well written and always had something going on. You an see where other books in the series might go next, but the characters and story was resolved by the end of this one. Thankfully not a cliffhanger ending :) a lovely romance and lots of details about the characters. Good read!

Wonderful story of two sisters who find their own way when they inherit their grandmother's home and store. Whimsical and practical, the two are inseparable yet each must find their way as individuals. Can one find happiness in love while the other remains alone? Can one sister sacrifice happiness? A test of love and indomitable spirit shines through.
