Description
NATIONAL BESTSELLER
From the author of the international bestseller Welcome to the Hyunam-dong Bookshop, a heartfelt invitation to reflect on your relationship with reading and celebrate the joys of books.
Why do we read? What is it that we hope to take away from the intimate, personal experience of reading for pleasure?
How often do we ask these profound, expansive questions of ourselves and of our relationship to the joy of reading? In each of the essays in Every Day I Read, Hwang Bo-reum contemplates what living a life immersed in reading means. She goes beyond the usual questions of what to read and how often, exploring the relationship between reading and writing, when to turn to a bestseller vs. browse the corners of a bookstore, the value of reading outside of your favorite genre, falling in love with book characters, and more.
Every Day I Read provides many quiet moments for introspection and reflection, encouraging book-lovers to explore what reading means to each of us. While this is a book about books, at its heart is an attitude to life, one outside capitalism and climbing the corporate ladder. Lifelong and new readers will take inspiration from it, including a treasure trove of book recommendations blended seamlessly within.

I so loved this book. So many suggestions I already do but so many I want to do. So many things hit me right at the heart like how people read when they read ebooks. So true!! So many times I was looking up other books that were mentioned only to realize I can’t get them.
This book was like a warm sweater…..cozy, warm and a reminder of things I love dearly

I received a copy of this eBook from netGalley for a honest review.
I can see me rereading this book whenever I feel my love for reading fading or it's getting a little harder to find my passion for books. This love letter to reading and books is beautiful and a look into the Korean culture. I can't wait to read more by this author.

A love letter to reading. This is a quick read that will make you stop and contemplate your own reading life, why you read, how you read, and what you read. Hwang Bo-reum continues to succeed in making a reader fall in love with their life in books. This would be a great addition to any bibliophile's bookshelf.
For any reader or anyone who loves books, this is a must read. I thoroughly enjoyed this book and would highly recommend!
I adored this book, even though I have not yet read Welcome to the Hyunam-dong Bookshop, which is so widely loved. The short essays in Every Day I Read are beautifully written and easy to take in, yet they often hold profound and fascinating insights. I especially appreciated her validation of all kinds of reading, from bestsellers to comfort rereads to classics that often feel too hard and dense to tackle.
Bo-reum's essays on reading and writing reviews especially resonated with me. Her acknowledgment of how much reviews matter makes writing this one feel a little heavier, but also more meaningful.
This book feels like a love letter to reading itself. I would recommend it to anyone, from occasional readers to lifelong bibliophiles.
Thank you to NetGalley and Bloomsbury for the opportunity to read this wonderful book in advance.

I received an ARC copy of this book from NetGalley. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.
I loved this book. I mean, a book, about reading books, for different reasons, with so many different quotes, and so many different ideas on how to do this. I was in a little reading slump, didn't feel like reading my way-too-many fall books... well not anymore!
These short chapters were perfect and to the point. Everything had a purpose, or a good well-placed quote, to highlight the fact that no matter how you do it, why you do it, with that or where you do it, the importance here is to read. Everyday. Yes! That spoke to me so much.
I've loved reading since I could touch a book, and yet there are so many books genre I haven't read, so many authors I don't know about, and this book made me excited about it!
I especially loved the last section: asking my family and friends what they are reading... I've never done that before, I only do it to my book club friends, but I guess that I AM curious... I also want to try a new section in my local Bookstore and read something unexpected. I've always loved poetry and yet, I barely have anything from that genre in my bookshelf... Well! Time to try new things!
This book was what I needed right now to revive my love of books and reading. I highlighted so many quotes in there... can't wait to read the books where they came from!

This book is the perfect remedy for a reading slump. The 53 short chapters explore the joy of books and reading, There are interesting quotes, good recommendations and lots of new ideas for enjoying and documenting the reading experience.
This is one of the few books I've wanted to read again the moment I finished. There are so many great questions to turn over such as, are books useful? Or thoughts on digital reading, or reading aloud vs reading silently.
The author reads globally, she sites many western writers as favorites. I especially enjoyed her references to Korean authors I hadn't heard of. I am inspired to start a new TBR list. Hwang Bo-reum's book Welcome to the Hyunam-Dong Bookshop will be on the top of the stack.
This book was a little book of knowledge! (an exclamation point is warranted in this case). If you read the book, you’ll understand the significance of the exclamation point. The way the author Incorporated other authors quotes and books into hers to explain the dynamics of reading and why it’s important was inspiring. I annotated a lot and created a list of books from this book so you get two in one. Reading this book was like reading a friend’s blog or her personal thoughts. I want to leave this quote “ books are friends we make a long life’s journey,” isn’t that the truth. I want to thank NetGalley for allowing me to read this arc, I couldn’t wait to curl up and read it at night.

I was excited to read this book because I enjoyed Hwang Bo-reum's first book "Welcome to the Hyunam-dong Bookshop". I was not disappointed by her second work! I liked the format of 53 short essays. Each essay was a few pages long and held an interesting reflection. It was an easy book to read in short bursts, often when I found ten to twenty minutes of spare time. I like to reflect about why I like to read and I felt as if Hwang Bo-reum was a dear friend who was sharing her thoughts in a conversation. She has an impressive variety of books that she has read and writes with a maturity beyond her years. I can't believe that she's still in her twenties! A great, cozy and thoughtful pick. This would make a great gift for the holidays for anyone that enjoyed "Welcome to the Hyunam-dong Bookshop".
Every Day I Read is a warm embrace from one reader to another, a collected reminder of all of the miracles books provide for us. This collection of essays by Hwang Bo-reum is a gift to those who’ve fallen in love with stories. Lovers of reading will fly through this quickly, relating to, and gaining insight from each page. This work is a great physical reminder to point to or share from when trying to vocalize to others what getting lost in the words of others has the power to do for us. This was a joy to read, and a PERFECT thoughtful token to gift to the bookworms in your life.

Every Day I Read by Hwang Bo-Reum | 5 stars out of 5!
This book feels like a comforting conversation with one of your most understanding friends, and it is certainly a book I will be thoroughly annotating and coming back to every year. Hwang Bo-Reum created a collection of essays taking an introspective dive into our relationships with books and the various ways we can deepen that connection. As a reader, having a relationship with books seems obvious, but I've come to realize I never really thought about it much beyond the concept itself existing.
I usually enjoy nonfiction books that read like memoirs or feel like a conversation with a friend or acquaintance. Hwang Bo-Reum captured this preference of mine while reminding me of how nice it can be to go through a few shorter essays each night. Like I mentioned earlier, the author’s tone also made it feel like I was hanging out with a friend. The cherry on top, as someone who loves to get into the nitty-gritty of the text, was finding another person who uses mindfulness when reading and enjoys stories by diving into themes, character development, and more.
I failed to find any major flaws. The book was exactly what it promised to be, and I really enjoyed the author's thoughts and ideas. Additionally, I was pleasantly surprised by how introspective this book left me. I expected some sort of existentialism, but I did not expect to feel so comforted and motivated at the same time.
I recommend this book to all readers, and those who have been wanting to get back into reading again, but are struggling to do so. It's definitely not short, but it certainly reads quickly and is very easy to pick up and put down. Oh, and to anyone who is obsessed with hunting down quotes. You will feel very validated.
