Description

Sometimes love is the best medicine.

Grace Sharpe has finally found the perfect medical instructor in Dr. James Hall. As a woman, Grace isn’t permitted to attend university to fulfill her dream of becoming a doctor. But now that Dr. Hall has taken her under his tutelage, she’s more determined than ever to make her dreams come true.

As long as she can focus on her work...

Dr. James Hall isn’t pleased with his current situation. After being begged, pressed, and eventually threatened to take on the youngest Sharpe sister as a student, he reluctantly does so. And while Grace seems more than capable of handling herself, James worries that he will not be able to keep his true feelings about her concealed.

When missing persons reports begin popping up all over Glasgow, Grace suspects something nefarious. Will Grace and James be willing to sacrifice anything to uncover the truth, including love?

💬 This was soooo good, and an unexpectedly much needed palate cleanser after having read so many contemporary romances lately. Plus, its set in Scotland 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿 what more do I need hahaha

So this is actually the third book in the Seduced in Scotland series, but for once I feel like it's an honest to goodness standalone in the series. Even with ones that say they're a standalone still make you feel a smidge like you missed out, and this one didn't. That isn't to say I'm not going to read the other books- I will for sure be going back to read the rest of this series.

Grace was a wonderful character, I really admired her strength and passion and independence, especially in the historical setting that she lived in. For example, (my pet peeve on this microtrope aside) I like that she didn't let him clean her up afterwards 😂😂 She's blunt and says what she wants and I'm here for it.

But let's talk about Dr. Hall for a minute here...It's a good thing the color scheme of this book is green because he is all sorts of green flags in all his swoony delicious ooey gooey cinnamon roll glory. 🤤 I loved how supportive and protective he was of her, while letting her be herself and not trying to pigeon hole her.

And the story itself was really good too. I got sucked in pretty quick, and enjoyed following along trying to figure out the mystery and the look at the not so great aspects of life in Victorian Scotland. I think I finished this book in about 2 days because I couldn't put it down.

If you're a historical romance fan I highly recommend this book. It has the perfect blend of plot and romance and heat. Hoping for Arabella's book next? 🤞🏼

The doctor is in!

Grace has been fighting most of her life against the prejudice women can’t be doctors – and she really, really wants to become one. Luckily, she’s found a few allies: the village herbalist who happened to be the aunt who raised him, the village doctor who happened to be his tutor, and her very own great-aunt, an unstoppable force of nature and female empowerment.
James is the very well respected doctor and surgeon strong-armed into taking her on as his apprentice, doubting strongly if she – and even he himself – will be able to withstand all the mocking and rejection she’ll have to face, and if she truly has what it takes to become a doctor. Nothing like a fully packed first day spent in the slums to test the waters...

From the university’s operating theatre to Glasgow’s necropolis, from the police chief to his misogynistic medical peers, from his small but neat private practice to the opera and glittering ballrooms, and finally from bedroom windows facing each other to the overcrowded workers housing and four penny coffins – this story is a feast for the senses!

Grace isn’t your usual earl’s daughter; she’s neurodivergent, unafraid of the ill, and a very devoted and driven student. She’s compassionate, quirky and a little overwhelmed by feelings. She believes she’s incapable of feeling passion, and that James, jilted in the past, is also not looking to commit – until a kiss changes everything.
James is a good man; patient, righteous and devoted to his trade. I love how Grace and her experiment rock his world! I love how he stands by her, respects her wishes, slays all her dragons, is adorably jealous and completely powerless when it comes to resisting her. I’d order me one of him if I could!

I’m not going to share anything about the plot, but trust me, it’s an original, solid, thrilling, delectable, action-packed, emotional, enthralling ride, and I believe this may very well be my favourite #MatildaMadison book so far!
And if you’ve never read anything by her, this is where you start!
