The Wrong Liza by Jazz Voss is a gripping, fast-paced read that left me both unsettled and thoroughly entertained. The story explores a terrifying scenario: someone taking over your life and manipulating reality so convincingly that you begin to doubt your own identity. It’s far more disturbing than a simple case of identity theft, and Voss handles the psychological tension brilliantly.

The narrative keeps you on edge from the very first page, with twists and revelations that pile up quickly. The ending delivers a shocking payoff that had me rereading the final chapters to fully process what had happened. The short length of the book only heightens the tension, making it impossible to put down once you start.

What I found particularly haunting was the realism of the premise. With the rise of scams, AI, and digital impersonation, it’s frightening to consider how someone could manipulate your life and the perceptions of those around you. Voss captures this fear exceptionally well, crafting a story that is both contemporary and psychologically intense.

Though brief, this novelette is highly effective in its pacing and suspense. It left me eager to explore more of Jazz Voss’s work and see where she takes her readers next. If you enjoy tense psychological thrillers that mess with your sense of reality, The Wrong Liza is a must-read.

I really enjoyed this quick read. It’s scary to think that something like this could happen, someone, taking over your life and essentially gaslighting you into believing anything they want. Imagine not knowing how to prove you are who you are. It’s a million times worse than having your identity stolen. I can’t wait to red more by the author.

Gripping, chaotic and an ending that culminates into a shocking plot twist. I really did not understand what I was reading until the last two chapters but was hooked. I devoured this short read in one sitting, and this left me wanting to read and explore other titles by Jazz Voss. Thank you NetGalley for the ARC!

Jazz Voss does a fantastic job in writing this type of book, I really enjoyed the way the characters and world were presented and developed. It was everything that I wanted in a opening chapter of the Under Skin Cycle series and was glad it was everything that I was looking for and am excited for more in this world.

this book was a short sharp riveting little read. it was very relevant and that made it even more worrisome. one woman with seemingly no existence? but everyone else telling her she is someone else? but what if you KNOW who you are? how can this be? are you going mad or is something or someone much darker working against you and manipulating everything you know to be true, to be you?
could you play along to find out more. would you just go with it. admit yourself to hospital.
the really scary thing is with Ai and the scam people are pulling i found myself down a rabbit whole with this one. because how do we know or prove who we are if the world was telling us different? and i did go to google lol.
fast paced, gripping and a little haunting. i wanted to know where this would go and whether we were getting a paranoid poorly woman's narrative. or something else. much worse.
just what makes us us?
