This splendid book of 250+ prayers has already strengthened my spiritual life. I love the focus on the quotidian -- the small happenings in our daily walk with Christ:
"Prayer isn't a once-in-a-while activity but a continuous posture of openness to God. It's a conversation with our Creator-a back-and-forth that includes both speaking and listening. Because God is with us in every part of life, he invites us to show up, to be honest, and to trust him in all things."
I love this book so much that I'm buying a copy for myself, family, and friends. Highly recommended!
Thanks to Brenna Holsclaw, Katharine Watson, My Daily Bread Publishing, and NetGalley for the ARC. Opinions are mine.
Pre-ordering immediately! Yesterday's sermon encouraged me to seek opportunities for prayer everyday, throughout the day, alone and with my family. This book will be a great resource to praise God through it all, even (especially!) the mundane and ordinary.
Really lovely little book! Lots of inspiration to be drawn from these short prayers for everyday actions, struggles, questions, and emotions, accompanied by Bible verses. An accessible way to generally grow one's spiritual practice, and bring more gratitude into everyday life.
I went through it today and felt so inspired! The short prayers are also great to use as a base for readers to write their own. I'll most likely purchase the book when it comes out.
DAILY BREAD MINISTRIES is a US-based but internationally-acting non-denominational Christian organisation that published many devotionals and prayer books like this one. They have an ecumenical approach, and these prayers are suitable for Catholic prayer (only faith I can personally speak for).

I really felt drawn to pick up this title as I feel like remembering to be thankful and talk to God during an ordinary day can be hard or it can get repetitive. I sought this out to help make sure I was being thoughtful and intentional with the time I spend in prayer and I think this book gives some great examples on how we can do that.
They give a lot of examples of different scenarios and some scriptures that help lead the reader through that event in their life. I think it is a great launching pad to have these conversations with oneself, others, and God.
What an amazing concept! Prayers for Ordinary Life is exactly that. Each small task of my day now can be a prayer. While I am sure I will not remember the specific words written in this book, I will recall that while I go through the day, I have many opportunities to pray and thank God that I am able to do the tasks before me. Instead of looking at them as “just another thing I must do”, I can give praise to God that I am blessed by Him and able to do them.
I have a new way to look at various tasks, for example: a kitchen sink full of dishes to wash, means I had a good meal, possibly with friends that I was able to serve, and in turn they gave me happiness with their company.
I imagine this book will be a wonderful reference when I am overwhelmed and need a nudge from above to calm down and keep moving forward, knowing that I am loved and blessed.
A sincere thank you to Our Daily Bread Publishing and NetGalley for giving me the opportunity to read the advance reader copy, with no obligation to write a review. My review is written freely as a hobby, and is totally my own opinion, not influenced by receiving the ARC.

This book was so unique. I love that there is a prayer for everyday situations and for the random times you need something more. I would love to have this book by my side at all times.

This book is a practical guide to the scripture about praying without ceasing. At first glance, some of the topics are a bit comical (ex. Brushing teeth, washing dishes, game night, vacation, seeing Christmas lights) but as you dive in further you realize there is so much beauty and depth in acknowledging God in these moments. This prayer guide has short prayers for so many different categories with corresponding scripture. I didn’t feel like any of them were taking things out of context. The book is broken into different sections: Prayers for ordinary moments with subsections-Daily Rhythms & Routines, Work & Productivity, Everyday Responsibilities, Being in the World, Life’s Small Joys and Frustrations, and Spiritual Practices, Other major sections that each have extensive subsections include Prayers for Emotions, Prayers for Trusting God, Prayers for hard times, Prayers for Relationships, and Prayers for Little-Big Moments,
This book is over 300 pages of prayers! Wonderful, practical resource! Thank you to Netgalley and the Publisher for the opportunity to read and review this book.
"Jesus, Our True Friend: Stories to Fill Your Heart With Joy" is a gentle reminder that God is with us always and a wonderful encouragement to pray without ceasing. I especially appreciated the practical prompts for praying in the small, ordinary moments of the day, each tied to Scripture. I’m planning to print several and place them around the house as prompts for those everyday moments.
I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

This is a powerful book of prayers for ordinary tasks we do each day, week, month. It is divided up so nicely so it’s easy to grab a prayer, thought, and scripture when you need it. These prayers are short, yet incredibly rich in theology and truth. Each prayer ends with scripture that help you focus your mind on God’s word, relating to the prayer chosen. The prayers are short enough to remember, write out and even send to others.
These prayers truly do help me keep the mundane and ordinary things of life in correct perspective and through the lens of God’s word and purposes. I have especially loved praying several of the house tasks I hate to do (laundry, dishes, cleaning) because it has helped me keep my focus where it needs to be with a grateful and focused heart. This prayer book is one I will keep working through and grabbing over and over. It will also make great gifts for others!

Thank you NetGalley for the advanced reader copy! I really enjoyed this prayer book & found it to be more applicable to other liturgy books I’ve read. As I read, I saved prayers that I want to copy in my journal or put up around my home. I especially loved “A Messy Home Blessing,” “A Prayer For Seeing The Stars,” “A Prayer For Simplicity,” and “A Lament For Consumerism.”

I’m always on the lookout for books that help me pray through everyday life, so Prayers for Ordinary Life: Meeting God in Everyday Moments immediately caught my attention. Created by Reclaim Today and published through Our Daily Bread Ministries, this book gently reminds readers that prayer isn’t only for big crises or church settings — it belongs in the ordinary rhythms of our days.
What I loved most is how practical and unexpected many of the prayers are. The book includes prayers for things we don’t naturally think to bring before God — watching a movie, dealing with car repairs, enjoying a hot shower, and so much more. It really expands your understanding of what can become a holy moment.
There isn’t a lot of deep theological explanation or long Bible studies in this book. If you’re looking for a detailed exposition of Scripture, this may feel light. But the reflections that are included are meaningful and thoughtful. I especially appreciated the reminder that Jesus didn’t go into the Garden of Gethsemane alone — He invited His closest friends to watch and pray with Him. And the reflection on the miracle at Cana beautifully highlights how Jesus was present in an ordinary celebration, which fits perfectly with the heart of this book.
This isn’t a book to rush through. It’s one to treasure and move through slowly. It can read almost like poetry at times, but it also works beautifully as guided prayer. I think it would be especially meaningful to own a copy and keep it nearby, returning to it throughout the year instead of finishing it in one sitting.
I also appreciate that optional prayer cards are available for purchase for those who want them, though they aren’t necessary to enjoy the book itself.
Overall, this is a gentle, practical, and beautiful resource for anyone who wants to invite God more intentionally into the small, everyday moments of life.

A transformative book that redefines prayer as a continuous, intimate conversation with God in the midst of daily life. Organized into thematic sections—such as daily routines, emotions, trusting God, hard times, relationships, and life transitions—the book offers short, heartfelt prayers for ordinary moments, from brushing teeth to dealing with a messy home, from feeling overwhelmed at work to experiencing the joy of a rainy day.
The book’s strength lies in its accessibility and honesty. It meets readers where they are, offering words for both joy and struggle, and encourages them to see God’s presence in every aspect of life. The prayers are simple yet profound, making them easy to incorporate into daily routines. Theologically, the book is grounded in the belief that God is not distant but intimately involved in our lives, a truth illustrated through the story of Moses and the burning bush.
*Prayers for Ordinary Life* is for anyone who wants to experience God’s presence in their daily lives but isn’t sure how. It’s for the busy, the weary, the lonely, and the joyful—anyone who has ever felt that prayer is too formal or too difficult. The book’s gentle, encouraging tone makes it a valuable resource for both seasoned believers and those new to prayer.
Ultimately, *Prayers for Ordinary Life* is an invitation to see the world differently—to recognize that every moment is an opportunity to encounter God. It’s a book that will change not just how you pray, but how you live.

This was a great little book full of earnest and detailed prayers for life's big and small moments. There were a few here that were so relevant to where I'm at in life that I will undoubtedly come back to read over them again.
I image these would be particularly useful on a bedside table with a one-a-day mentality which isn't something I tried out this time. Clearly a lot of love has gone into the production of this book, with accompanying beautiful illustrations. A joy!
