Description

A violent car crash brings on the premature birth of the baby that Jane Whitefield and her husband have hoped for, but it also shatters the period of calm in their lives like an earthquake triggering a tectonic shift.

Within weeks, Jane’s peaceful time as a new mother in a safe, harmonious home starts to revert to her harrowing previous life. She had spent over a decade rescuing and sheltering people from dangerous foes, taking them to new locations, and teaching them to live under new identities. It was something that she’d hoped to never have to do again.

Nearly simultaneously, as though the events were connected, people who are thousands of miles apart in vastly different circumstances start to move. Some of them are in terrible need of help finding a route to safety. Some are dedicated to serving justice. Others are determined to capture the woman who makes people disappear so they can force her to reveal where their potential victims are now. All of these travelers are soon on their way to the old house in western New York.

Suddenly the people requiring Jane’s special skills include not only multiple fugitives, but also Jane herself, her husband, and their newborn, as the danger she faces comes from people who know how to find her. She’ll need to use everything she’s ever learned in order to survive.

A violent car crash brings on the premature birth of the baby that Jane Whitefield and her husband have hoped for, but it also shatters the period of calm in their lives like an earthquake triggering...

Wow, what a treat, another Jane Whitefield adventure!. Jane is of course married, but now she has a little one in her life too, their daughter May. Life is going along pretty well and then someone needs her help, then the people who tried to take her three years ago return and a second person needs help. Jane has to maneuver with all these parties and move her own family while she tries to work things out.

This book was almost impossible to put down. It starts out with a car accident and then just keeps on rolling. Very suspenseful and there were moments that had me holding my breath. You are going to have to read it to see how or if things work out and for whom. This was a really good book. I tried to not read it to fast, but that was impossible.

I would like to thank The Mysterious Press and NetGalley for this ARC.

The final novel by Thomas Perry is a fitting final adventure of Jane Whitefield, the finest creation of one of the best (and most consistent) thriller writers of his generation. If it isn't the best in the series, it's still a stone cold winner; human and brutal, lightning paced, riveting, and pulse pounding at all the right moments. No big surprises, but plenty of call backs to early novels (refreshing the memories of the faithful, while sketching in some backstory for the unimaginable freshman reader); even if Perry didn't intend to close the door on the series, it makes a fine minor-chord coda to a stellar series -- and career. Hard to believe that there won't be a new Thomas Perry novel next year, but he leaves behind 32 novels all worth revisiting.

Thomas Perry’s ability to immediately capture the reader’s attention and hold it through heart-pounding action scenes and quieter descriptions of how our protagonist, Jane Whitefield, gets people to disappear is on full throttle in this last book of the series.

Jane is attempting to lead a normal life as a new mother and loving wife to her physician husband when trouble comes for her from different directions. A teenager needs her help and the Russian criminal organization that came for her three years before is trying again. Added to this mix is yet another runner who needs to disappear.

As always, there is not only suspense but heart and humanity. I could not stop reading this book until it’s wonderfully satisfying conclusion.

Thomas Perry is a favorite thriller writer of mine. This is his last book as sadly he passed away this year. This is the tenth book and final book in the Jane Whitefield series. His writing is remarkable. Mr. Perry had a great talent for emotional and thrilling writing that gifts the readers complete immersion into his story. This was a equally thrilling book from beginning to conclusion.

Jane Whitefield is in a terrible car accident as the book opens. This is the start of dangerous events for her and her family. As a new Mom she has put her business on hold permanently which is intense and dangerous. Her business is helping people disappear. When neferious Russians appear to be hunting her she and her family have to run for their lives. They want to find out where people are she assisted. The race is on and this pulse pounding excitement is exciting to the breathtaking conclusion.
Thank you to the publisher for this exciting last book in the series. Mr. Perry we will miss you.
