Description

What happens when you challenge everything you thought you knew about love, marriage, and identity?

After two decades in a monogamous marriage, Laura Jennings made a choice that changed everything – she and her husband opened their relationship. What started as an experiment quickly became a journey of self-discovery, desire, and personal liberation.

Playing is not a guide or a manifesto – it’s an unfiltered, deeply personal account of navigating non-traditional relationships while balancing marriage, motherhood, and societal expectations. With honesty, humour, and vulnerability, Laura explores the complexities of love, autonomy, and the courage it takes to break the mould.

Raw, thought-provoking, and refreshingly candid – this is a story of redefining marriage on her own terms.

A Note From the Publisher

Laura Jennings’ childhood shaped her into a compliant adult, especially in her marriage, suppressing her courage in favour of conformity. Over time, this led to a loss of self. Playing was written to reclaim her voice and navigate a journey of empowerment, one she feels is important to share.

This book was an eye opening look at the open marriage of two people. A topic that isn’t really openly discussed these days, I learned so much. The author explores the good, bad, fun, and difficult. Well written and packed with insight, this book is a must read for anyone with an open mind.
I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

Review will be posted on Instagram and Amazon on pub day and links added to NetGalley.

I really enjoyed the overall feel to this nonfiction book and enjoyed the realistic element of this book. It was engaging and had that memoir element that I wanted and was promised in this description. Laura Jennings wrote this well and left me wanting to read more.

Playing is a thoughtful, quietly emotional piece that captures the tension between innocence and growing self-awareness. Laura Jennings writing feels intimate and observant, with subtle details that make the characters and their inner conflicts feel real. It’s a short read, but it lingers especially in how it portrays the fragile line between childhood freedom and the pressures of the adult world.

Quite interesting, One persons experience on serial non monogamy and some BDSM experimentation.

Only a few bits of descriptive writing of actual occasions but mainly reasons pro and against. Not a bad book.

I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own
