Description
Thirteen years ago, Orin McCabe was a family man living a privileged life in the California suburbs. Today, he's condemned to death row for murdering his entire family in an unexpected fit of hammer-wielding brutality. In the aftermath of his heinous crime, it's fallen to a trio of eclectic, but dedicated, ghost hunters—Jacob, the holy man; Holland, the skeptic; and their leader, Del, a true believer in the occult and worlds beyond—to surveil the abandoned McCabe home in search of proof for the existence of the undead . . . and whatever supernatural source may have possibly fueled McCabe’s inhuman massacre. But this ill-matched and uneasy squad of investigators is about to discover something much more terrifying than any ordinary spirit. . . . Something much more pernicious, much more contagious, that if not contained, could take full advantage of America's unquenchable appetite for violence and deliver a plague of blood unto us all . . .
Collects issues #1–4 of Plague House in a twisting tale of horror that's as blood-soaked as the ground you stand on.

"Plague House" by Micheal W. Conrad and Dave Chisholm is a dark, twisted, unsettling comic about a group of ghost hunters investigating a house where horrific murders took place.
The story is thrilling, and the artwork is bold and adds to the story. The comic was also gory and suspenseful. I highly recommend this comic for people who love fast-paced horror comics!
Thank you, NetGalley, and Oni Press for sending me an ARC of this amazing comic! This comic will be released 01/20/2026.
In full transparency, I didn't know this was a graphic novel when I requested this ARC. I usually don't imbibe in any visual content, but I have to say that this was fun to read. The artwork was striking and the story was chilling. It was gory and it was violent. It was dark and it was depraved. What more can you ask for from an artifact of horror?
I'm really sad that I have to wait for the rest of the series, because I'd love to binge it.
I love the concepts and where the story is going so far. This one is dark and gritty, with death around every corner.
The art style is fantastic, both in how the characters are depicted and the colouring. The red hue and the bold colours really tie things together, giving it this eerie vibe. Great start to a series!

Great graphic novel to get you in the Halloween and spooky mood. Very gory with illustrations that really match to the creepiness of it all.

This story is insane, and the amazing graphics bring it to life.
13 years ago, Orin McCabe murdered his entire family in an unexpected brutal event. Now, a group of ghost hunters (A holy man, a skeptic, and the head honcho) go to the house to try to figure out what could have caused this. As the team breaks up in the aftermath, all of their lives begin to fall apart, one potentially jumps from a window, another gets institutionalized and the third begins seeking vengeance, mirroring the real-life violence seen in America nowadays. How can they try to fix things, and are things capable of being fixed?

A Rotten Haunted House Story!
Michael W. Conrad & Dave Chisholm have given us a ghost story packed full of so much trauma. Not only does this trauma help guide the story, but it also leads readers to some of the scariest ghosts I've come across in literature. (If you like A24's Talk to Me - think that level of scary ghost)! Guiding the story are Del - the ringleader believer, Holland - the snarky nonbinary skeptic, & Jacob - the adorable exorcist. As they investigate a scene so evil, it becomes clear that where they think they are helping, it might be attaching itself to them.
This story has some deep meaning. It is all about the ghosts we create as we interact with the world and the consequences that follow. This becomes clear from the very first issue and it sets a very unsettling tone for the rest of the volume. You absolutely should be checking this graphic novel out!

An inventive take on the haunted house genre. This graphic novel collects the complete 4 issue mini-series, including a cover gallery.
Del Sutton and his team - nonbinary sceptic Holland, and holy man, Jacob, from the Room Fortean show investigate the Mccabe house, where husband and father Orin McCabe brutally murdered his entire family. This Investigation drastically alters the course of all of their lives.
With art that doesn't pull its punches, and pages often saturated in red, this is a worthy addition to any horror comics shelf.

"Plague House" drew me in with the incredible, vivid illustrations, but I stayed for the story. The writing invites the reader in on the speculation.
The postmodern take on the classic ghost-hunting crew is interesting, but the story quickly shifts focus to Del, and almost exclusively Del, by the end. Del has little to no emotional/social awareness but is capable of deep thought.
He defends his friends; at least he sticks up for Holland, but doesn't understand their decision to break off from him after the interview. I wish this aspect of his personality were touched upon more. Is he selfish? Aloof? *Plagued* by the self-righteous call to action that compels him to follow up on his investigations?
I like the idea of the skeptical Holland being unable to handle the reality of their brutal world after an investigation opens their mind to it all at once, in contrast to Del, who has been aware since childhood.
"Plague House" was an enjoyable read with dynamic and striking visuals. I look forward to seeing this in print and recommending it to others.
This was dark. This was haunting. The illustrations and story really sit with you and make you question many of the concepts brought up in the book. This is clearly more than just a haunted story, but emphasizes the permanence that human actions have on the world.
Plague House is the kind of graphic novel grabbing you by the collar and dragging you through the dark but you still asking for more, every time you turn a new page.
It follows a team of paranormal investigators who get called to a decaying mansion with a violent history—and quickly realize they’re in way over their heads. What starts as a routine haunting spirals into a full-on descent into madness, with blood, betrayal, and some truly wicked twists.
The story is tight and compelling, with just enough mystery to keep you guessing. It’s got that classic horror structure—creepy house, strange occurrences, escalating danger—but it’s executed with a punk-rock edge and a mad plot twist. Think Sin City meets early Scooby-Doo, if the gang were ghost hunters and the ghosts were out for blood.
Chisholm’s art is the real standout here. The aesthetic is gritty, high-contrast, and dripping with atmosphere. Some panels are so striking they feel like gallery pieces—I'd honestly hang a few on my wall. The layout is dynamic without being chaotic, and the visual storytelling is razor-sharp. It’s the kind of book that reminds you why comics are such a powerful medium.
If you’re into horror comics that don’t pull punches, Plague House is a must. It’s stylish, smart, and just the right amount of messed up. Definitely one for the collection. And I will add this one in my physical library with pleasure.
Thanks NetGalley for this graphic novel!
Three very different people get together to form a sort of ghost hunting team. They’re popular, they work well together, until they get to one house…
I’m not very familiar with graphic novels but I never pass up an opportunity about haunted houses. This one had a pretty cliche initial premise, but I liked the turn it took. While it’s not exactly a haunted house story, I still found it twisty and enjoyable. The art was very impressive and impactful.
Trigger warning, lots of death!

What a ride. I thoroughly enjoyed this book. It had a unique premise that kept me interested the entire way through. Beautiful illustrations, striking color palette and a great eerie atmosphere. Very gory, disturbing. Nice pacing. Altogether very enjoyable, perfect for spooky season. Not for the faint-hearted.

Plague House is a story about 3 ghost hunters who document paranormal sightings. The story begins in a house haunted by the spirits of the family which was murdered by their father. The beginning is somewhat predictable but I really enjoyed the direction it took in the latter half of the story.
The dark and gritty art style really complements this story and I highly recommend it to horror and thriller fans!

Plague House, scheduled to release January 10, 2026, highly recommend this horror graphic novel.
What a story! Such a great twist on the ghost story/haunted house vibes. Not going to lie this cover drew me in and was my sole request for picking this book.
I love the POV and how this story unfolds. It takes off right from the start, then gives the insight to what it is that is going on. I did not read the synopsis and thoroughly enjoyed the surprise.
We follow a team of ghost hunters Jacob (holy man), Holland (the skeptic) and Del (true believer) as they make their way through different haunted places. Madness unfolds and darkness takes over. What will come of the ghost stories these 3 seek to answer?
This story had great pace and kept me intrigued with the story. I really enjoyed the plot and how well it was executed. It felt like it had more depth than most graphic novels I read. Horror graphic novels are one of my favorite and this had all the elements I enjoy. Gory scenes, haunted places/stories, and a madness.
Really enjoyed the artwork as well, the way the words were displayed felt fresh.

In this story we follow a team of paranormal investigators and their trip to a specific house.
After they visit the house one of the investigators starts doing his own form of justice.
This was a really good start to the series. I thought all the characters were super interesting. I liked the follow up on them throughout the story especially the girl in this one. It’s an interesting take I think this story is going to be a lot deeper the further it goes.
The art is the star of the show, it is absolutely stunning and the change in the colors and art when the ghosts are present is phenomenal.

Starts off following a classic trio of ghost hunters; a star believer, a skeptic, and a priest as they investigate the home where a grisly night of family murders had happened year prior and ends in a shockingly unexpected way. Happy that the tropes quickly fade away and the engaging story of how that investigation changed each of their lives kept me reading and wanting more!

I just finished reading this graphic novel and I have to say it's an absolutely insidious attraction! The narrative dives deep into a world of murder horror and terrifying supernatural mysteries, yet it’s presented with stunningly vibrant artwork and bright colors—an artistic contradiction that works incredibly well! The way the 'flashy' visuals lure us into the gloom of the story is truly a brilliant charm. Conrad’s pacing is sharp, fast, and captivating, making it an absolute binge-read.
Crucially, the author constantly lets us figure out the answers for ourselves, especially concerning the relationship between the main trio of ghost hunters. Their dynamic faces a breaking point rooted in misunderstanding and the haunting truth following the incident at the McCabe House. It is this rupture within the team that ultimately leads to personal and public tragedies far greater than any ghost! I secretly wished he would have expanded on the story of the other ghost hunters a bit more, as both of them were unique and intriguing characters in their own right.
What makes this book profound isn't just the killing; it's the exploration of the protagonist's psyche: was his entire action controlled by a malevolent energy, or was it simply his own delusion? This graphic novel will leave you wrestling with fundamental questions about identity and responsibility. But how it all ends? You'll have to read it to find out!
I've got this graphic novel from NetGallery.

Houses carry memories. This was an interesting take on the haunted house genre of horror fiction. The art style was old school with bursts of gore and colour. I thoroughly enjoyed the story and the art!

Plague House delivers a haunting and intense horror experience that blends classic ghost story vibes with a visceral, bloody edge. Following a trio of very different investigators—a believer, a skeptic, and a holy man—this graphic novel plunges readers into an abandoned home with a grisly history and spirals into something much darker and more insidious than a typical haunting.
What stood out most was the combination of striking, bold artwork and a story that holds your attention from start to finish. The visuals elevate the eerie atmosphere and ramp up the tension, while the narrative constantly shifts between psychological mystery and outright horror. It’s gory and unsettling at times, but that’s part of its charm if you enjoy horror that doesn’t hold back.
While some elements felt familiar from other haunted house tales, the character dynamics and twisty progression kept it engaging throughout. A solid pick for horror graphic novel fans and anyone who enjoys stories that leave you thinking about what’s real and what’s beyond.

A queer person, a lunatic, and a priest walk into a haunted house.
Plague House will check all the boxes for a reader who is looking for gore, zero suspense, and surprisingly inclusive horror. It's twisted portfolio full of crimson will give you an odd dread at every flick of a page but definitely keep you entertained as the story unfolds. As a fast paced thriller; it gets to the point but also cuts no corners. Definitely pick up a copy of Plague House when it releases next year on Jan 20!
