Daniel Warren Johnson's The Moon Is Following Us Volume 1 delivers all the signature feels you'd expect. It's a trippy, fun ride packed with family themes, a girl trapped in a dream, parents braving a dreamworld rescue, and a generous dose of backstabbing and fantastical elements. While it feels like it'll read even better in a complete run, the ending left me eager for more. A solid 4 out of 5!

Sam and Duncan will do anything to save their daughter, and that anything comes with a vibrantly drawn world where their daughter’s toys are fighting against a demonic horde within her dreams, leaving Sam and Duncan to play heroes. As much as Duncan loves his daughter and wife, it’s Sam who rushes forward, who takes chances, who will kill whoever gets between her and her daughter. Duncan is quieter, wanting to think and reason his way through — well, his daughters dreams.
It’s an interesting idea brought to life by colorful, expressive art and strong character design. The plot moves quickly with no time to pause between each chapter, lending a frenetic urgency that matches well with the plot. This volume does, however, end on a cliffhanger and an introduction to some new characters that I can’t wait to see more of.
Thank you so much to Net Galley and the publisher for the ARC.
