Description

'Tons of heart and sizzling romance' – Aamna Qureshi, bestselling author of If I Loved You Less

'A swoon-worthy romance, perfect for anyone in their yeehaw era' – Lucy Jane Wood, bestselling author of Rewitched

Welcome to The Diamond Back Ranch: where the cowboys are hot, the drama is real, and city girls like Lottie Wright are in way over their heads.

Lottie has spent her whole life chasing success – or at least what it’s supposed to look like. The perfect corporate job. The perfect banker boyfriend. The perfect life in London. But when she’s suddenly fired and catches her boyfriend cheating, she does what any totally rational person would do . . . and gets on a plane to her family’s ranch in Wyoming.

Cole Miller is a rugged ex-rodeo star and absolutely not interested in a city girl playing cowgirl on the Diamond Back ranch – even if they did end up in a steamy tangle on her arrival in Jackson Hole. But as Lottie trades designer suits for cowboy boots, she starts to realise she might be a little more country than she thought. And when a rival ranch threatens everything, she’s not about to let them win, especially when it means proving to Cole – and herself – that she’s got what it takes to earn her place.

A slow-burn, high-heat cowboy romance with banter, tension, and a love as wild as the Rockies.

This was so easy to get into and delivered all the best cowboy romance tropes. The banter was so fun, the found family trope was everything and I’m so happy for our main characters - they deserve this kinda love 💜.

Thank you to Pan Macmillan for my ARC!

I really enjoyed this one! I loved that the author switched up the “typical” Western romance by featuring a British protagonist with roots to the ranch. The writing was so fun and engaging that I couldn’t put it down. Lottie was a great main character and Cole was a swoon worthy MMC: I loved the world building of the ranch and I can’t wait for the next book!

This was a nice quick easy cowboy read. Lottie is a down on her luck city girl in London who just lost her job and found her boyfriend cheating on her. Not knowing what else to do she impulsively decides to fly to America where she spent her best summers on a ranch living wild and free. We see Lottie try to find herself, find love, and put away her past.
Overall I enjoyed the setup of the story and the characters. Lottie is just doing her best trying to find where she fits, even when it's such an easy answer. Love Cole and his straightforward cowboy-ness. Their love story is so sweet. The other characters on the ranch are awesome as well. The drama at the end was tantalizing. I would've liked to see the follow-up with Lottie's parents. It was a sweet ending though.

The first few pages hooked me right away, so 🤞. Also, love a short read. And yup - it was as good as Elsie Silver! I really liked both Lottie and Cole, and the side characters added just enough without stealing the spotlight.

Lottie leaves her cheating ex in London and heads to Wyoming, where her mom was from. She meets a hot cowboy and it gets hot. There’s an outdoor scene and plenty of cowboy energy, but no one-horse moment. Lottie can ride her own damn horse!

Untamed Heart is a beautiful blend of emotion, longing, and raw connection that completely swept me away. From the very first pages, the story feels intimate and heartfelt, pulling you into a romance that’s as tender as it is intense. It’s the kind of book that makes you slow down and really feel every moment. The characters are wonderfully written, flawed, vulnerable, and easy to root for. Their emotional journey feels authentic, with chemistry that builds naturally and moments that genuinely tug at the heart. I loved how the story explored trust, healing, and the courage it takes to let someone in, especially when the past still weighs heavy. The writing flows beautifully, balancing quiet, reflective moments with emotional highs that linger long after you’ve finished reading. Nothing feels rushed or forced, it all unfolds in a way that feels honest and deeply satisfying.

Official Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️.25

" The exposed logs of the ranch house, a rich conkerbrown, dominated the room. Despite the touches applied by any teenager –  posters, clothes strewn haphazardly, makeup and jewellery randomly dotting most surfaces –  it was undeniably western. From the carved wooden bed frame to the intricate, colourful patterns on the Shoshone-made quilt and the building collection of cowboy hats, in my mind, we could only be in Wyoming. ‘They’ve been arguing non-stop. I think they’re getting a divorce.’ "

" His honesty was like a gut punch, worded without ceremony. I was struck by just how lucky someone might be one day to be with this man. "

Lottie and Cole are two characters whose chemistry palpitates through the pages. I like that this book explores that going back to one's roots and understanding that life has its ebbs and flows, and what you do with it is a choice. Whether it was influenced by others or oneself.

Lottie’s journey into finding herself was needed, and it's a reminder that sometimes the situations we are in are needed to make us a better version or maybe a revisited older and truer version of ourselves. Very self-discovery. Throughout the story,y we are only privy to her feelings and her thoughts with a single POV, and I’m not too mad about it. This story had depth, but not enough depth that I felt I needed it to be written in dual POV. I’m usually not a fan of singular POV’s, but I feel like this book was a quick-ish read that I did not feel like I missed out on a different version of the same events.

I really like Gemma’s writing; it's understandable, and she doesn't drag the story when it doesn't need it. There are some threads I wish she explored — Lottie’s father, especially, but it didn't have that much of an impact on the current story itself. His impact on her life before the first page, yes!

This story could have been a long novel and still worked, but with a more emotional impact, but it also works as this medium short story.

The characters and atmosphere of the book make me want to visit Wyoming in the winter and experience it. As a girly who has a soft love for country music, reading this felt like listening to a country song on repeat. just honest and true. I was also listening to Kathy Mattea, and that enhanced my reading experience.

I am excited to read the second novel following Hestia. I'm also ready to read Lil’s story for sure.

A huge thank you to Netgalley and Pan Macmillan for sending me a digital arc to review.

While I did not initially have good first impression of this book, I ended up enjoying it and will definitely be reading the next book! The book is short and a lot of time was spent in London at the beginning of the book instead of at the ranch. I felt like I needed more information about her and her family instead of the boyfriend and best friend. However, I had a feeling the best friend would be back in the second book...

Fans of 'the hat rule' and classic cowboys will like this one. There was less focus on the 'small town' and more focus on the ranch property itself which was different from others books with these tropes.

I appreciated how reasonable and level headed the MMC was throughout the book. I usually don't see this and I enjoyed the bonus chapter from his POV.

Overall a solid read for seasoned cowboy romance readers.

The book was fine, in a chaotic first act kind of way. I loved Lottie’s character and her growth throughout the book. It was a little insta-lovey for my tastes. But if that’s what you like, this is the book for you. Plus cowboys.

I will absolutely be picking up the next one!
