“ Looking at flowers makes me happy, growing flowers makes me happy, talking about flowers makes me happy, … seeing plant-loving people talking enthusiastically about their plants makes me happy” – and reading Anders Røyneberg’s book “ The Creative Container Garden” from which the above quote is taken definitely made me happy!
was drawn to the book because I was looking for creative new ideas for my roof terrace and this is what the book delivered in spades. Anders Røyneberg’s enthusiasm for plants is infectious and that feeling shines through on every page. The book is beautifully designed, full of stunning photos that capture both the elegance and the diversity of container gardening. Yet, it’s not just a feast for the eyes; it is also genuinely practical.

Even though I have been gardening in pots for a while, I picked up useful new tips on pest control, container selection and propagation. I like the little insets full of useful tips and background info which break up the text and make it easy and entertaining to read. The 18 detailed projects were especially inspiring — I’m planning to try the popcorn grass as a windbreak next year and to revisit the idea of growing small trees in containers.

Røyneberg writes with warmth and clarity and the book flows effortlessly from inspiration to practical advice. The glimpses into his own garden make it feel personal and have given me something to aspire to.

Thank you to Timber Press, NetGalley and Anders Røyneberg for an advance reading copy of this book.

I absolutely love the idea and execution behind this book! There are so many different way to swap plants, flowers, and veggies to different containers and landscaping. I really enjoyed learning different techniques and when to plant what type of plants and where. I will definitely be using this book as a reference to creating my own little homestead area. The photographs are beautiful, the information is on point. I can definitely see myself doing this as a hobby and a permanent lifestyle.

I received this ARC book from NetGalley and the publisher in exchange for an honest review.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

This book provides a good balance of decorative floral container advice along with herbal and vegetable container gardening, which I appreciated. I need advice on tomatoes and potatoe container gardening and this book delivered! I feel that I’ll ready to follow the advice and improve my tomatoe yield in 2026. And try at potatoe gardening this year!

This book provides gorgeous photography and advice beginning from how far apart to plant the seeds, what time of year, how to wrap and transition young plants outdoors in the spring, how to prune abd care for them, and how to collect and store its seeds at the end of the growing season before the first frost. They also provide information on how to continue growing certain plants indoors over the winter and transition them back outdoors in the spring. I’m going to give this a try with a lemon tree! If the plant is perennial you may even be able to leave it outside or on your porch over the winter!

They also provide some fun projects that can get your children excited about gardening and feel involved, such as sunflowers, ornamental grasses, and popcorn kernels.

If you do planting into containers on your property for aesthetics or would like to have an apartment garden on your balcony and don’t have land, then this is the book for you!!

This book was such a delight of a book. This past year I have become entrenched with a vegetable garden in my yard, and I am now looking for anyway to expand my garden. And so, this book hit my desk at the perfect moment. It has been winter and I have been itching to start this year.

This book has gorgeous images on every page that inspire and make you yearn for new containers in your yard. The author does a fantastic job of breaking down how to start container gardening in any size yard, balcony, or corner in the basement. The author's ability to make any task seem achievable by the average person and worth the effort is commendable. Additionally, the author is able to apply the information to a global gardening audience despite living in Norway. I was impressed to say the least that the book was so accessible and generalizable as it was despite the author living across the world from me. That being said, some of the plants mentioned in this book are a little harder to find in some countries (because I immediately started my internet shopping list after seeing his pictures), but most plants are common globally.

The author himself was extremely loveable and relatable. Despite being a book that covered mostly plant growing information, the personality and excitement of the author shines through the pages. Whether it is bragging about his husband or mentioning symbols of strength and peace in the Ukraine, the author's perspective and positivity were intoxicating.

Overall, I can't get over how beautiful the images and plants were in this book. I am so motivated and excited to try my hand at growing plants in pots this year and this book really sparked this new motivation. If you are interested in small space gardening or just not in-ground gardening, or even if you just love gorgeous garden pictures, I highly recommend this book.

A beautiful, full-color guide to making the most of any outdoor space. Whether you have a balcony, patio, or just a few pots, this book shows how little space you actually need. The author walks you through choosing containers, soil care, watering, fertilizing, pest control, wintering plants, and even traveling with plants in mind. Indoor and outdoor options are covered, and each chapter has a handy summary.

I loved the practical tips sprinkled throughout and the perspective of the author. From herbs and tomatoes to ornamental grasses, sunflowers, and even popcorn, the project ideas are inspiring and accessible.

Thanks to NetGalley and Timber Press for the advance copy
