Arriving at school, Rosie is dismayed to see the kids on the playground taunting her classmate Fadimata, who is Muslim and wears a headscarf. Rosie comes up with a plan. Rosie has a red cape she likes to wear, so she asks Fadimata if she would turn the cape into a headscarf for her. The other kids in their class don’t want to be left out, so they ask Fadimata to make them headscarves as well. The experience confirms Rosie’s belief that if you tilt your head and look at things differently, you can see the world through someone else’s eyes.

This beautifully illustrated book shows children how important it is to look at things from other perspectives. Rosie loves to wear her red cape everywhere. When she goes to school for the first day of the school year, she sees a circle of boys and girls surrounding the swingset. She goes over to find out what was happening and finds the new girl, Fadimata, being laughed at because she is wearing a hijab. When the bell rings, Rosie and Fadimata walk in together. Rosie comes up with a great idea that works and the others do not make fun of Fadimata anymore. This is a great book to teach young children (ages 4 to 8 is the target) acceptance, putting yourself in someone else's shoes, bullying and tolerance.

This book was beyond adorable and very thought-provoking. Rosie has a special red cape that she wears all the time. She has a different way of seeing things, she tilts her head and sees things in a new view. While she is at school one day, she sees a new student, Fadimata, being teased about her hijab (head-wrap). Like Rosie does, she thinks about things in a different way, eventually finding a way to help Fadimata feel more comfortable and included.
This book gets a definite five stars from me. This is something I will be reading to my children.
