Say it loud, say it proud: I Love My People!
An energizing tour of Black culture, history, and community, I Love My People is a joyous celebration in rhythmic poetry. Follow two children as they excitedly experience their neighborhood, family gatherings, Juneteenth and Kwanzaa celebrations, church community, and activities that parallel the accomplishments of influential contemporary and historical Black icons. Meet dancers like the Nicholas Brothers and Katherine Dunham, filmmaker Oscar Micheaux, mathematician Gladys Mae West, scientist Kizzmekia Corbett, NASCAR drivers, tennis players, gymnast Simone Biles, and activists too. Kim Holt's warm, vibrant illustrations bring each scene to life, infusing each declaration of awe and respect for the Black community with joy and verve.
Author Kim Singleton's poetry soars, making this a fantastic read-aloud for home, school, and the library. She hopes the book will serve as a source of education, inspiration, and pride to young people. I Love My People: A Child's Celebration of Black Culture is a wonderful gift for holidays, birthdays, and any occasion.

I received a copy of this eBook from netGalley for a honest review.
This book is wonderfully caring and beautifully filled with black people and icons. Showing how I love my people has become a motto for many of those not born white and privileged. I loved how the kids in the book are doing what the adult heroes are known for in fun kid friendly ways. the love this book pours out is wonderful.

I Love My People is a beautiful showcase of Black American culture and history. The rhythm and flow of the words adds cozy and warm imagery of Black people joyously celebrating, living their lives and highlighting great figures from history. Reading this book made me feel a warmth in my heart as a smile crept across my face at this celebration of Black American culture.

I Love My People: A Child's Celebration of Black Culture (Hardcover)
by Kim Singleton
A beautifully rendered art work to explain the history and culture of the Black community. From political movements, to actors, and scientists that changed the perception of Black culture. A look at dance, music, art, and fashion how its a valued expression of self and culture. A good resource for Black history month, and Black connection to students.
