Description

Three years of fourteen-hour days and flawless campaigns, and I'm still "the goalie's little sister who got lucky."

The marketing director title should be mine. I've earned it ten times over. But my shot at proving that depends on one impossible man: Garrett Sullivan.

The press calls him "The Iceman"—six-foot-four of shutdown defenseman who just rolled his eyes at our title sponsor on live television. Now fixing him is my problem—and my only shot at the promotion I've bled for.

He's also my brother's best friend. Professionally dangerous. Personally off-limits.

But the man who stonewalls cameras is someone else behind closed doors. He keeps his grandmother's snow globe collection displayed like sacred relics. He looks at me like I'm someone worth figuring out. And he argues with me like I might actually be right.

Our strategy sessions start running late. Then later. Then into territory where the line between work and want disappears completely.

My brother's ultimatum lands like a blade: End it, or I tell Coach myself.

My boss is building a case to destroy me—and I'm running out of time to stop her.

Garrett wants to protect me. Fight for me. Burn down everything he's built if that's what it takes.

He doesn't see that saving me might cost us everything.

Brother's best friend. Forbidden attraction. Some risks are worth taking.

Three years of fourteen-hour days and flawless campaigns, and I'm still "the goalie's little sister who got lucky."

The marketing director title should be mine. I've earned it ten times over. But my...

Absolutely loved this book. From the first lines of this book, the man's grumpiness is established in full force with a humor I couldn't begin to describe if I wanted to. I. Was. Cackling.

Okay and can we talk about this podcast the author writes into this book? It's so perfect. The hosts are super witty and hilarious but at the same time conversational. Can I just insert my favorite line here? "His hair looks like a sad, wet Zamboni that just gave up on life." If you aren't rolling on the floor laughing at that, then you clearly don't enjoy life.

But back to the meat of it. This isn't the grumpy/sunshine I thought it would be. He's certainly grumpy, but that's not his main personality trait. And she's not sunshine. She's badass boss bitch. This is an epic partnership of love, trust, and growth. I'm always uncomfortable with PDA and sneaking around but the drama here is WORTH IT when everything inevitably...hits the fan, so to say. Kind of wanted to punch her brother a couple times but now I really want him to have his own book. I hope he does.

Suits and Skates is a character-driven contemporary romance that shines through its relationship dynamics and emotional build rather than high spice.

Sloan is an ambitious, career-driven FMC whose work is central to her identity, and that focus creates genuine, relatable stakes throughout the story. Paired with Sullivan, an elite athlete MMC, their workplace forced proximity allows for organic emotional bonding, quiet tension, and a steady build of chemistry. The banter between them felt natural, their connection developed believably over time, and the he falls first dynamic added an extra layer of charm.

I particularly appreciated that their relationship didn’t feel rushed. The slow unfolding allowed moments of vulnerability and connection to land more strongly, especially through their secret dates and growing emotional intimacy. Sena Voss does a great job of writing characters who feel grounded and human, with emotional beats that feel earned rather than manufactured.

The sports element was well integrated and added atmosphere without overpowering the romance, making this an enjoyable read even for those who don’t usually gravitate toward sports romances. The spice level is low (around a 1), so readers looking for emotional connection over steam will likely enjoy this more than those seeking high-heat romance.

While there were a few moments where the pacing dipped slightly for me, it didn’t detract from my overall enjoyment. By the end, I was fully invested in both characters and satisfied with their journey.

This is a great pick for readers who enjoy contemporary romance with strong character development, emotional depth, and a sporty edge. I’d happily read more from Sena Voss in the future.

Sloane is out to prove herself and if getting Garrett media ready is what it takes to do that, she's going to do it. Even if it means she has to ignore the obvious chemistry between them.

Read if you like:
-Teammate's Sister
-Forbidden/Off Limits
-Secret Relationship
-Found Family

Wow, what a debut from Sena Voss. I highly recommend downloading the free prequel short story before diving into Suits and Skates. It will give you an idea of what to expect and get you excited for the series. Plus, who doesn't love a little feminine rage? Suits and Skates picks up just after the end of the short story, with Sloane trying to pick up the pieces of the media fallout caused by Garrett. It's she chance to prove that she's more than Easton's little sister. Garrett resists at first, but their obvious chemistry and her competence has him changing his mind (who know reverse competence kink was just as good of a trope?) about working with her. The tension was so good as were the team dynamics. This is definitely to series to watch.
