From the creators of The Boy with Big, Big Feelings comes a new story about a boy who's bursting with energy--moving, talking, bubbling excitement--and how he learns to channel it for good.

This is a story about a boy with so much energy, he struggles to contain it. He's bouncing off the walls--during school, at museums, while playing with friends. Everywhere he goes, he's moving, laughing, fidgeting, and climbing--and he always has something to say. In some places, he's supposed to be quiet and still, but that's HARD! What's a boy with so much energy to do?

Beautifully illustrated and written in rhyming verse, The Boy with Big, Big Energy explores how energetic, active kids can find healthy outlets. With the help of his patient dad, the boy learns how to focus his energy in the appropriate time and place by trying new sports and calm-down techniques. The boy discovers how his unique gifts equip him to leap into action when his friends need him most. There are lots of ways his big energy can shine!

Perfect for high-energy children, kids with ADHD, big talkers, and anyone who is constantly on the move.

We already loved "The Boy with Big, Big Feelings" and "The Girl with Big, Big Questions" so I was thrilled to see another title in this series. As a parent of a son with ADHD, this new book is perfect. He is a teenager now, but this picture book would have been so great for him in his younger years, and I hope it's helpful to kids and parents in a similar situation! Thanks for making SEL topics so approachable and showcasing the strengths of kids with "challenges" like ADHD.

Excellent book. I would highly recommend it. The artwork matched the style of the text. I think this book is important for every teacher who thinks children need to sit still all day. No, they don't. Great positive message.

As a mom who has a toddler who never stops, I seriously loved this book as a parent. It is such a wonderful read on high energy and making it know that it is okay. With a child who is currently in EI this actually was a recent discussion of how high energy easily labels kids as the "bad kid" in the class instead of taking the time out to know how to allow them to blow off some energy when needed.

I will 100% be forwarding this book/author to my little ones intervention teachers.

Absolutely adored this one. As a former elementary teacher and current MTSS specialists this book is great for reteaching positive behaviors and helping those that struggle withered or impulsiveness. I love how it showed different aspects of how the behavior not only affects him but others as well as how at times it’s okay to have big energy and can be helpful.

A cute and relevant book for those of us that know a boy with big energy ourselves. This story reframes “big, big energy” into something that can be channeled and used in positive ways. Every picture was bright, colorful and bursting with energy that flowed from the main character like an everlasting aura that could be directed and trained into doing good for people and in the world around him. I loved this book and found it to be exactly what my own son needed to hear. For a kid with big energy, and a parent who has been exhausted by various teachers and other adults who just don’t seem to “get it,” it was a welcome breath of fresh air to not be treated like you’re something to be fixed, subdued, and stunted.

Thank you to Broadleaf Books and NetGalley for allowing me the opportunity to read this advanced copy with my son and opening his eyes to a different viewpoint that doesn’t automatically label him as “bad,” but instead shows that he is “capable.”

Thank you to NetGalley for an advanced reader copy in exchange for an honest review!

The Boy with Big, Big Energy by Brittany Winn Lee is a joyful, affirming celebration of highly energetic children. It perfectly captures what it feels like to be a child with big energy and big feelings—without framing those qualities as something that needs to be fixed.

What I loved most about this book is how deeply it respects the child at its center. The story acknowledges the challenges that can come with big energy, but it never treats the child as a problem. Instead, it offers thoughtful, practical, and compassionate ways to help channel that energy, reinforcing the idea that these kids are not “too much”—they are wonderful just as they are.

The message is powerful and reassuring: big energy is a gift. It’s creative, curious, passionate, and full of potential. This book reminds both children and adults that these traits are precious, and that with understanding and support, they can shine.

This would make a fantastic gift for families with high-energy kids, educators, or anyone who wants a kinder, more affirming narrative around children who experience the world loudly and intensely. A beautiful, validating read that truly understands its audience.

As a long-time fan of this author, I thought I knew what to expect, but The Boy with Big Big Energy blew me away. I have read every single one of their previous books, and I can say without a doubt that this one is by far my favorite.

It is rare to find a book that captures the vibrant, often misunderstood spirit of "high-energy" children with such grace, humor, and heart.
My own son is a "big energy" kid, and seeing his face light up as we read this was a gift. It didn't just tell a story; it mirrored his own experience back to him in a way that felt like a giant, celebratory hug. We didn't just read it once—we’ve already read it multiple times by popular demand. It has quickly become the most requested book in our nightly rotation.

Beyond my life as a parent, I see incredible value in this story from an educational perspective. The way it reframes "big energy" as a strength—while gently navigating the challenges that come with it—is brilliant.

I will definitely be purchasing copies of this book to use with the children I work with at school. This is going straight to the top of my recommendation list for fellow school social work staff. I’ll also be passing the title along to parents who are looking for ways to support and celebrate their spirited little ones.

Reframes Behavior: Moves the narrative from "disruptive" to "dynamic."

Highly Engaging: The rhythm and illustrations keep even the most restless listeners hooked.

Validating: Provides much-needed representation for kids who feel like they are "too much."
