Description
A Spicy Novella
She came for a weekend escape, but destiny came harder.
Victoria Lopez is freshly divorced, newly forty-five, and determined to reclaim her joy on a weekend girl's trip to a romance book conference. But when her rechargeable self-care device stages a full-scale riot in the TSA line, she's forced to toss it in the trash… along with her hopes for a no-strings-attached, between-the-sheets revival.
Fine. Whatever. She's got a BookCon, her two best friends, and a weekend far away from her ex-husband's engagement party. That should be enough, right?
But then a mysterious figurine at a vendor booth calls her name - literally. According to the shop owner, these enchanted effigies choose their person. Victoria laughs it off… until she brings the warrior-shaped statue back to her hotel room and discovers "choosing" might have involved a lot more than fate.
Because this figurine doesn't stay a figurine.
Suddenly Victoria is face-to-abs with a devoted, dangerously gorgeous Mexica warrior determined to serve her every desire and remind her exactly who she is: powerful, wanted, and worthy of pleasure without apology.
What started as a girls' trip becomes a wild, magical awakening - one that might just put her heart back together in ways she never expected.

I could not stop laughing while reading this short novel. I adored the pacing of Monty’s creative story. It was the perfect book to read between longer, heavier novels. Thanks to NetGalley for the ARC.
Ok, can someone please make book-con carryon happen for real? I’d like a travel sized warrior whose sole purpose is reminding me how powerful I am by giving me endless orgasms.
This is exactly what it claims to be. Short. Spicy. A little silly.
But it also packs a bit of an emotional punch. We all deserve to feel powerful and a worthy of love, affection, and orgasms, but sometimes we need a little reminder.
A love letter to all things books & bookish friends.
The only negative I’ll note is that the prose was a bit repetitive in places, including the spice.
Hi!
Thank you for the ARC of Bookcon Carry-On — I had a genuinely good time reading it.
This was fun, chaotic, and fully aware of what it is. You leaned all the way into the premise and it worked. I laughed out loud more than once and appreciated that the story never apologized for being bold, spicy, or a little silly.
Victoria felt very real. The mom guilt, burnout, and self-doubt were relatable, and watching her reclaim her confidence and desires was genuinely satisfying. The magic and humor kept things light, but the emotional moments still landed.
Overall, this was a fast, entertaining, unapologetic read with a solid message underneath the spice. Thank you to NetGalley and Tides Collide publishing for providing this ARC for review consideration. All opinions are my own.
Thank you so much to NetGalley and the publisher for access to this ARC!
What a fun, spicy, quick read this was!
Inanimate objects turning sentient and spicy is always a fun time. This book was perfect for fans of Vera Valentine! If you read and enjoyed “Unhinged” this is right up your alley!
Divorced woman goes on a girls trip with her feral friends to a book convention and desperately needs to get off. Unfortunately, an issue at the airport throws a wrench in her plans, but she finds something at the book convention that will do the trick!
Now if someone could figure out how to invent one of these figurines we’ll be in business…….

This novella was such a fun ride. BookCon Carry-On had me laughing almost immediately — the airport scene alone had me in tears. That moment set the tone perfectly because this whole story is chaotic in the best way.
It’s cute, funny, and very self-aware, but also brings in that playful romantasy twist that makes everything feel a little extra magical. The whole bookish convention vibe made me want to book a ticket to a BookCon ASAP. If a story can make me want to leave my house and be social, that’s saying something.
And yes… it’s spicy. Not shy, not subtle. Just fun, flirty, and confident about it.
Overall, this is a quick, hilarious, feel-good read with humor, magic, and heat wrapped into one entertaining little package. Perfect when you want something light, ridiculous, and spicy without a huge time commitment.
