Description

Trish Holt is a pianist, living in picturesque Boothbay Harbor, Maine in this contemporary romance. She is stunned and blindsided by the most bitter kind of betrayal: her boyfriend of three years has left her. His new lover is her manager. Her bitterness is compounded by the fact that Trish has made bad choices when it comes to past relationships.

Much of it stemming from her own issues as an adopted child from Korea. She holds herself partly responsible for the breakdown in their relationship as she tries to fit into the stereotype of the 'All American' girlfriend.

When she moves out to a new home, she encounters Michael Quentin. Not only is he her neighbor but also a local chef on the island, who romances her and helps her get over the betrayal. As Michael and Trish fall in love, their childhood issues resurface.

Can Trish stop herself from loving Michael whose own family's dark past is holding him back?

Can she ignore his love for tradition and roots?

Trisha is a pianist. She was adopted as a child and after her parents gave her a baby brother she felt she didn't belong. Her neighbor taught her to play the piano and when her father heard her at the school talent show he was amazed. She went to London to school and travel with an orchestra
she moved to boothbay Maine where she met Liam that relationship was a disaster. Then she moved when Liam literally told her to leave . She rented a house. on water and made friends with Michael. They alike in that they both had what she called bad childhoods not ever feeling they were enough. Follow their relationship to see if it goes anywhere. what does two people do who have been hurt by love in their past? can they brave it once more? can they heal enough to do so or heal along the way?
Trish has been through alot. her past and how she grew up already taught her the worst side of love, or what it should mean to be loved. growing up in care meant she felt all those things that people in care often do. its no her fault, and it makes you so sad for her. its never easy to overcome things like that from childhood. it takes alot of bravery to risk giving your heart away when you feel like that, when its been imprinted since a child. so when she is hurt once again, betrayed should we say it shakes her to her core. she cant trust others but can she also not trust herself? what could feel worse and more heartbreaking than that?
when she moves she finds respite and a healing of sorts in this new place. what she didn't expect though was Micheal. he does something to her and for her she never saw coming.
Micheal has his own haunts that shadow his ability to give his heart. away. he decides to live life not loving but maybe loving. woman arent allowed in for long enough for them to really connect. you all know where you stand when you step close to him. his family taught him this. that hurt and thinking lingers over him too.
so when these two connect on a level they didn't want to happen it can feel even scarier.
the ripple effect of what happens when someones heart and sense of worthiness is fractured. this is the reality right here. you cant fault either character of how they behave at all. and that makes them and their journey all the more real. you want them so much to heal and work through this and know they could even help each other. but the old haunts and acts or behaviour that comes to the surface to fight flight or flee crop up.
this is so authentic and raw in place but also so tender.
i was rooting for them both so much but knew it would take some real courage and actually, also it would take someone really sticking by their side to do so. face all the other gives them, know they will probably push the other away right to the edge to see if that person will "leave" them. you have to stick stick stick. you have to show that person(child inside regarding pain) that you wont be leaving, that you wont show defensiveness even at being pushed. this inst about you its about them. stand tall, solid and by them.
i thought this was really represented in this book and it didn't try to make it pleasant or easy in how its portrayed because these things actually arent. it also takes awareness and care to write characters like this and Pamela really wrote our characters with compassion.
there was light and smiles in this book too dont fear. it never feel like doom and gloom nor hopeless.
just a really great read about two peoples love story. one that was a romance but with that much deeper sort of read to it which i love to dive into when done well. and this one certainly was.

This contemporary romance opens in the quiet beauty of Boothbay Harbor, Maine, where Trish Holt is trying to rebuild her life after a devastating betrayal. Her long term relationship has ended abruptly, leaving her shaken not only by heartbreak but by the painful reminder of old emotional wounds tied to her adoption and her lifelong struggle to feel like she truly belongs. As Trish navigates the aftermath, the story takes its time exploring her vulnerability, her self doubt, and the complicated way past experiences shape present choices.

When Trish moves into a new home, she meets Michael Quentin, a local chef whose warmth and steady presence offer a sense of comfort she did not expect. Their connection grows naturally through shared moments, quiet conversations, and an undeniable pull neither of them tries to rush. What begins as tentative companionship slowly becomes something deeper, even as both characters wrestle with unresolved family histories that threaten to hold them back.

The strength of this novel lies in its emotional honesty. The romance feels earned, grounded in healing rather than fantasy, and the setting adds a gentle charm that enhances the intimacy of the story. Readers who appreciate thoughtful character development and emotionally layered love stories will find this book both engaging and deeply satisfying.

I picked this up expecting a sweet romance and ended up getting pulled straight into Trish’s emotional world. From heartbreak to healing, I loved watching her find her footing again while falling for a chef who actually listens and cares. The setting is charming, the feelings are real, and the love story feels honest instead of perfect. This is the kind of book you read when you want comfort, connection, and proof that starting over can actually be beautiful. If you love romance with heart and depth, this one is absolutely worth your time 📖💖
