"Gregory's illustrations are bright and colorful, with a childlike draftsmanship that evokes the best kind of refrigerator art. Initially, negative space is used to highlight the distance between the two pals, but as the story goes on, paint ends up on the floors, walls, and ceiling, bringing Marcie and Giraffe together in joyful splatter. There are multiple lessons here that never feel didactic, making this a perfect storytime choice for learning to cope with jealousy, deal with angry emotions, and make art for art's sake. Marcie and Giraffe is a picture book reminiscent of Peter H. Reynolds' Ish.

Marcie becomes frustrated when Giraffe creates more realistic art than she can. As a way to cope, Marcie lets her emotions run wild on the paper and Giraffe loves it! Throughout its pages, this book adorably highlights the subjectivity of art and how everyone's creativity is different in a way kids can understand.

I found the beginning a bit disjointed, since it jumps right into Marcie and Giraffe showing each other their art before the reader quite knows what's going on, but this approach might work great with kids. The use of watercolor and whimsical line art also makes up for it. If you have an art-loving little one who is a bit of a perfectionist, this would make a great present for them!

3.5 stars. Thank you NetGalley for the ARC.

Marcie and Giraffe is a really fun picture book with a unique, engaging art style. Its very easy to read and opens up the opportunity for conversations about art, emotions, and using art to express yourself. Its also pretty cool that some of the art in the book would be easy for children to recreate, which could be a fun classroom activity.

A cute story and life lesson that if you mess up something it can still turn out beautiful.

Marcie loved the way giraffe painted her and was so sad that she couldn't paint giraffe as well as he painted her. But giraffe loved her painting.

Marcie then said sometimes my brain looks like this squiggle squiggle squiggle.... face plant haha
Giraffe thought Marcies painting was awesome and tried doing the same.

They laughed and loved the art they had created.

Thank you #NetGalley for the early read. What a cute book.

Marcie paints a picture of her friend the Giraffe. Giraffe paints one of Marcie. After Marcy compares the two paintings she is left with big negative emotions. Teaching kids how art can help take out big emotions. And that comparisons are even better off when two friends come together to make an even better masterpiece.

This has a really great message for kids and has really adorable illustrations. My kid often gets very frustrated when things dont turn out the way he'd like them to and I can't wait to read this with him and talk about how Marcie and Giraffe handle results vs expectations.

This is a cute childrens book that teaches them that just because someone's art or story is different than yours doesn't make yours bad. It shows how you can change and make something beautiful.

Marcie and Giraffe stands out right away with its bright, bold colors and simple illustrations that feel inviting and accessible for young readers. The storyline and text are easy for kids to follow while still keeping them engaged, making this a strong choice for read-alouds.

What really shines is how the story captures the way kids process big feelings. Through Marcie’s experience, the book thoughtfully touches on emotions like anger and jealousy, as well as the tendency to compare ourselves to others. The story gently encourages looking at situations from a different perspective, helping kids make sense of those feelings without minimizing them.

This is one of those stories kids will immediately relate to - the emotions feel familiar and real. It’s also a great book for caregivers to return to in the moment, when a child is struggling with similar feelings, offering a shared language and reference point for conversation.

A relatable, emotionally insightful story that supports kids as they learn to understand their feelings and see things in a new way.

I absolutely love the colors and illustrations for this story... which is great considering it's a story about art. It really reminds me of the art of small children.

Marcie and Giraffe are taking turns drawing pictures of each other and Marcie gets a little upset because she doesn't think he art is as good as Giraffes.

This book is just as much about big emotions like jealousy and joy as it is about creativity. Art doesn't have to be perfect and it doesn't have to be like everyone else either. I think this book does a good job of highlighting that.

I received a copy in exchange for my honest review.

I loved this book. First of all, the illustrations were so fun. They were brightly colored and a little whimsical.
The story touches on the large emotions of children such as jealousy and joy, but also highlights being creative and interpreting art in different ways.

Overall, I greatly enjoyed this book and so did my kids.

I received an electronic ARC from Publisher Spotlight | Tiger Tales through NetGalley.
This is more a book about large emotions than the art they create. Marcie is upset that Giraffe's paintings are better than hers. Readers see her move through fussing to creating her own style of painting. Giraffe follows by creating his own too. Together, they work through emotions and using their imagination to create lovely paintings to celebrate their friendship. The illustrations are simple yet capture the emotions that swirl.

I enjoyed the story and the illustrations and the book has a good message. It's pretty short and I think there is opportunities to talk about frustration and disappointment when things don't turn out just like you hope, as well as not comparing yourself and your work to others, and to appreciate what makes your art special.

What a cute story showing Marcie and the giraffe drawing and scribbling pictures of each other. Marcie gets upset when she thinks her drawings aren’t as good as giraffe’s. They go back and forth trying draw each other. This book shows the creativity of art and that it doesn’t have to be perfect. As they say beauty is in the eye of the beholder.
Thank you to the publisher and Netgalley for the eARC of this book. All opinions are my own.
