Description
Her touch kills, his saves the dying.
Are they fated, or forbidden?
Tempest Dunlap loves romance novels, but she knows she’ll never have her own happily-ever-after. She is a sweatpants-wearing doula who homeschools her seven-year-old niece in suburban New Jersey. Unfortunately, she’s also a succubus: Every man she’s ever kissed has died. But Tempest is a good person who never intended to be a murderer, so she’s sworn off love forever.
Then she meets Joel Tav, a gorgeous, gentle doctor who makes celibacy feel impossible. Tempest knows she can’t touch him—or tell him his brother was the last man she dated and accidentally killed.
Meanwhile, a vigilante is hunting people with dark powers, and Tempest is next. Should she keep hiding in her safe, lonely life, or should she embrace the darkness she fears and risk the ultimate forbidden love?
Maybe Tempest will get her love story after all . . . or maybe she’ll become its villain.

This was a LOVE story with a love that shouldn't have happened, a love you would die for, a love between two people on opposite ends of a fight, a love between a succubus and an angel.
As far as love stories go this one took me by the heart. I was sucked in and enjoyed it completely. It was beautiful, funny, full of yearning.
This was not what I expected, in the best way! The cover was giving romcom vibes but Succubus went a lot darker than I would have predicted and it really worked for me. The writing is strong with a unique tone, the world is a refreshing take of dark/magical but dealt with in a very realistic 2026 way (which made the stakes and the love story feel even more intense). It does take a beat to pick up but once you push through you are in for a dark and twisty ride.
I would definitely recommend this book and look forward to more by Kate Fox!
What a WILD ride. This totally surprised me in the best way. I’m not usually into paranormal romance, but this felt so fresh and unique and I was hookedright away.
Tempest is such an interesting main character, and I loved how her story balanced dark, emotional stakes with this underlying hope for love. The whole “her touch kills” concept made everything about their romance feel intense and genuinely high risk, which kept me invested the entire time.
Joel was the perfect contrast because he was gentle, kind, and impossible not to root for, and their chemistry was so strong despite (or honestly because of) everything standing in their way.
I did not expect how emotional this would be but it was different, and seriously hard to put down. Definitely worth checking out even if paranormal romance isn’t usually your thing.

This is such a fun and unusual one-- it's tropes you know, but with new fun twists that make it more unpredictable! A very fun ride!

This ride was WILD. I definitely questioned how or whether we would make it to a HEA. But I had to keep reading! Could barely put it down.
This book was not what I was expecting when I read the description but I absolutely devoured it in two days. The writing style drew me in and kept me engaged, and the story itself was creative and, in a weird way, refreshing. Joel and Tempest were a pleasure to get to know and I can only imagine that this will absolutely slap as a fall / spooky season read.

This was an excellent read and an unique romantsy read in what is becoming a a booming and also saturated genre. This book had me hooked from the beginning.

This story was written so beautifully, it’s hard to find words for how much I enjoyed reading it! The authors voice is so distinct and full of emotion and metaphor and imagery, it sometimes bordered on poetry, in the best way! It never fell into overly flowery prose, it just conveyed the deepest emotions so clearly that sometimes it blew me away, I had to go back and read a paragraph or a full page several times to soak it all up.
I feel the cover and title (though gorgeous and accurate,) somewhat misrepresent the style of this book. They portray it as a contemporary romance, rom-com, or something along those lines. It is really a modern epic love story. It’s full of longing, pain, yearning, hope, hopelessness, love, and everything in between. Tempest and Joel are two of my favorite characters I’ve ever read, and I know this book is going to stick in my mind for a very long time!
THANK YOU to the author, publisher, and NetGalley for the e-arc, I am truly so grateful!
This book was nothing like I expected, but it was fun, had a lot more substance that I didn't expect, and characters that were interesting to root for to succeed and characters that I cheered their demise.
The first couple of chapters were really well written and immediately drew me into the rest of the story.
If you like books that aren't the same old trope, this is a good one.
Snarky, funny, different - but wait - also serious, warm, romantic, and tense! Didn't know what to expect and got blown away - loved the characters, complex and unorthodox plot, and off the wall humor. A definite winner!
