Description

A gothic fantasy romance for readers who like stepping into new worlds such as Narnia and The Chrestomanci Chronicles but also love the dark whimsy of The Infernal Devices, Belladonna, and Caraval.

Their grief binds them.

The song calls them.

The Darkness wants to claim them.

As winter wraps Areth in its frozen embrace, nightmarish beasts descend upon the Hastings household kidnapping Mr. and Mrs. Hastings and leaving behind their daughter, Bianca, as sole witness. In the wake of their abduction her quiet world is turned upside down and shaken revealing the secrets and lies her parents have buried.

As truths unravel it binds her to those who have similarly lost. Together they must wade through the thorny tangles of growing love and grief to find those that they hold dear before the looming threat of darkness is unleashed to destroy them all.

I loved this so much. If you follow my review you know I absolutely love Megans writing, it always feels like you are stepping in such a vivid and beautiful dream. The world was so interesting, I loved the portals and the magic was so dang unique. I adored the characters so much and the slow burn was killing me.

These three characters find each other at such a grief stricken and awful times in their life and seeing the little found family together warmed my heart. They deal with some pretty big things in such a small time but their interactions felt like they knew each other for so long. Each of the men have such a different approach to life and each adds to Bianca's life. Reading about Bianca's pain and journey of loss to discovery was such a beautiful story to be a part of.

Um that ending gave me whiplash. I just kept saying what I er and over again. Not only was I hit with one cliffhanger there was like five and I was not ready for any of them. I'm going to need a second book asap.
