Description
"Provocative and challenging, this work rewards patient readers and will make a good addition to graphic novel collections interested in socially engaged, formally inventive storytelling." —Library Journal (Starred Review)
When Texas rancher Liddy and Honduran immigrant Óscar collide on the U.S.–Mexico border, neither can understand the other’s words—but both are forced to rely on trust when they’re thrust into an unimaginable encounter. Told in English and Spanish without translation, Barrier is a visually stunning, genre-bending story that explores the walls we build between nations, cultures, and each other.
Collected for the first time in its original "widescreen" format—and perfectly complementing Image's new softcover edition of THE PRIVATE EYE—this gorgeous new edition contains the entire Harvey Award-winning miniseries.

A thrilling and morally compelling alien abduction story, beautifully illustrated. An examination of our moment, in metaphor and deed.

Thank you to NetGalley and Image for the ARC of the completed collection of this series!
Loved the art work for this! I had to do a bit of translation for it as my high school Spanish class was not recent enough for me to get through the Spanish sections but I really liked the story. Of course I want more. What the heck was going on with the aliens?! Loved loved loved!

Every time I start a Brian K. Vaughan book, I do it with the highest of expectations, and he always surpasses them.
"Barrier" is a dual language book following the journeys of a woman who owns land close to the border with Mexico, and so has to deal with the criminal organisations that help smuggle immigrants and a Honduran illegal immigrant who made the crossing.
The book does a great job of humanising both these complex characters in their different journeys until they meet, and then there's a plot twist that I didn’t see coming that changes everything.
The only thing I would change is that Brian's books always have more naked women than necessary compared to the men. That ending was cruel, but an amazing story.
Thank you to Netgalley, Edelweiss, Image Comics and Simon & Schuster for this DRC.
