Description
Oxford, 2050.
Britain is fractured. The Divide – a vast wall – splits the country from Kent to Cumbria. Families and lovers are torn apart. Civil war and economic collapse have left mistrust, propaganda and fear in their wake.
Petrichor Jones, a specialist in Roman bronzes at the Ashmolean Museum, longs to see her sister Jasmine, who defected years earlier to Anglia. But Oxford, now capital of Wessex, is suffocating. Rumours swirl of the Dark Politic, a clandestine force controlling the media, and Petrichor begins to suspect her own boyfriend may be working against her.
When she encounters the secretive Astronomy Club, she is drawn into a perilous underground network. With their help, she attempts the dangerous journey beneath the Divide. Along the way, she must decide who to trust, confront betrayal and risk everything to reunite with Jasmine.
Love, resilience and rebellion collide in a world where freedom is fragile and lost innocence can never be regained.

This story was amazing and very emotional. I loved the plot and how it was different from other books I've read in the past. I can't wait to read more from this author.
The Divide by Vicki Lloyd
⭐️⭐️⭐️
A clever premise that imagines a literally divided Britain and the impact this would have. I thought it was interesting, but at times I felt the writing was a little slow and the plot became slower because of this. It felt very tense, particularly because the central relationship is that of siblings and so it was heartbreaking in parts.
A great read! Think of the Berlin Wall, but dystopian, dividing Britain with promises of a better life.
Petrichor Jones’s sister was tempted to the other side but when the postcards that describe the wonder of her new life stop, Petrichor suspects that all is not as it seems and embarks on a dangerous journey to find Jasmine and bring her home.
Loyalties are tested and trusting anyone carries with it a huge risk.
The pace was slow at times, but overall I really enjoyed the book and it gave me lots to think about.
4 ⭐️ Thanks to Netgalley, Vicki Lloyd and The Book Guild for an ARC of this book.
It was the cover that immediately made me want to read The Divide by Vicki Lloyd and I really enjoyed it.
The story follows Petrichor and her family in a divided Britain, trying to navigate impossible choices and every day complications of a world falling apart part.
It’s emotional, clever and some moments were heartbreaking. The characters felt so real to me and I could really feel the choices they were making.
A little slow at times but that didn’t stop me enjoying it.
Thank you NetGalley and The Book Guild for the ARC.
A gripping journey through a fractured Britain.
The Divide by Vicki Lloyd is fast-paced, suspenseful and emotionally charged. Petrichor Jones navigates betrayal, secret networks and a dangerous trek beneath the wall that splits the country. The stakes are high, the characters are compelling and the tension never lets up.
A story of love, loyalty and courage that proves freedom is fragile and hope is worth fighting for.
