Description

1st June 2013.

In north-east Hampshire, England, care-worker-cum-amateur-musical-star Ash is giving the performance of her life. Fifty miles away, cult film star and notorious playboy Joe is getting ready for yet another night on the town, but it’s no ordinary party: this time, he’s going beyond the horizon. Ash ends her night by letting co-star Rich rope her into running a gardening club at the exclusive rehab clinic where he works, while Joe is rushed to hospital, having been found at death’s door by best friend Yoni.

Joe is not at all happy when he wakes up at the clinic, but starts warming to his situation when he spots a quirky but attractive young woman toiling alone in the garden. One fine day he stumbles upon her, and she promptly enlists his help. Over the next two months, a bond forms between the pair as they tend the garden together, but sooner or later Joe’s going to have to go home. Will that be The End for him and Ash?

Thank you to NetGalley and the author for providing me with a copy of this book for an honest review.
I was absolutely drawn into Ash and Joe’s story. For the first few chapters before our main characters meeting the book was slightly hard to get into but after they had met, I devoured the rest of the novel. The character development in this book was amazing not only for our main characters but also our side characters the reader was able to get into their headspace with the narrative style which really humanized and made believable the complexity of each relationship. I loved the slow-burn way the relationship between our main characters developed into romantic interest between them, though I would have loved to see some in book romantic scenes of the two together at the end of the book. Moreover, even though this book deals with dark themes, the depiction was done tactfully, and I feel displayed an accurate experience of someone undergoing a depressive episode. Overall, this was a wonderful read exploring themes of healing, compassion and love.

This was a great read about relationships and how theater can truly be a gateway for more! I enjoyed the clearly British writing and colorful characters. The novel tackled some difficult topics eloquently and the coming together of the characters, while a very slow burn, was ultimately very satisfying!

The Meeting Ground was such a warm, uplifting read. I picked it up expecting a romance, but it turned out to be so much more. At its heart, it's a story about healing, second chances, and finding unexpected connections when you need them most.

I really enjoyed both Ash and Joe. They come from completely different backgrounds, but their relationship develops naturally through shared experiences and quiet moments together. Ash was easy to relate to, and I found myself rooting for her from the very beginning. Joe's journey was equally engaging, and I loved seeing his growth throughout the story.

One of my favorite things about this book was the garden setting. It added such a peaceful, hopeful feeling to the story and perfectly reflected the themes of growth and new beginnings. The pacing is gentle, but it gave me plenty of time to connect with the characters and become invested in their lives.

Overall, this was a sweet, heartfelt story with memorable characters and an uplifting message. If you enjoy character-driven romances with emotional depth and plenty of heart, this is definitely one to add to your TBR.
