***
A darkly funny literary satire about love in a divided America.
Jennifer Soyvenus is a burnt-out Antifascist organizer craving connection. Chet Beefwell is a redpilled manosphere influencer searching for meaning. When the two accidentally swap phones during a political street brawl, they are pulled into a chaotic love affair that will expose—and test—everything they believe.
The Patriot and the Antifa is a razor-sharp novella about desire, division, and the uncomfortable ways that intimacy reveals the limits of belief.

It's a satire piece that comments on what draws regular people into right wing circles when they're not hardcore maga or don’t even really support any of those morals + how the misinformation is used to convince them leftists are terrorists. It also delves into toxic left wing environments and how things can sometimes feel like you Have to do something when you’re not emotionally capable of it and how that can lead to bad personal relationships and mental health at some point. Also all the characters were flawed and kinda annoying but in a way that was fun to read for me. I hate every single one of these people but damn the drama in their lives is top notch.
The sex was also interesting. I don’t usually say that about books but damn. The way it handles power dynamics in a hetero relationship is genuinely so interesting. Never seen a woman top before.
I do have some (political) criticisms though. Firstly there was a scene where they go to mcdonald's/starbucks and. this book is set in 2026 I genuinely would have loved for the fmc to take a strong stance against those chains as a leftist!! Like boycotts work and man she has options as far as I could see. She shouldn’t have folded this quickly. Idk as someone who believes boycotts are an essential part of the revolution it kinda rubbed me the wrong way.
Secondly, the singular non-white character in the whole book was Dev (I'm guess. It doesn’t specify but based on the name he's south asian I think). And Dev is shown as this 'soy boy who joined leftist spaces to fuck women'. Which honestly would've been fine but damn is he dismissed by the narrative so much it kinda pissed me off. Also roxy wasn’t treated as a person with agency and shit and idk man I feel like the author could've been nicer to her because it lowkey feels slightly misogynistic. And the cheating being glossed over felt very icky to me.
Anyways that was a lot. But yeah fun book, could've done some things way better but overall I had fun reading it.

A surprisingly successful satire of romance novels and the current political climate. It made me laugh out loud a couple of times.
