Description
Some threats never stay buried.
And some loves never let go.
When violence strikes close to home, Navy SEAL Owen Loughman is forced to return to the one place—and the one woman—he never truly escaped.
Owen lives in the shadows, trained to survive anywhere in the world and eliminate threats without hesitation. Control is his weapon. Distance is his armor. But Natalie Dixon has always been the one weakness he couldn’t erase—the girl he loved, the woman he left behind.
Natalie rebuilt her life after betrayal and loss, learning the hard way that love comes at a cost. She’s stronger now. More guarded. And she has no intention of letting Owen back into her world—until danger makes him the only man she can trust.
Thrown together as an unseen enemy closes in, the pull between them reignites—raw, consuming, and impossible to deny.
Every glance burns. Every touch tempts fate. And the closer the threat draws, the more Owen is willing to risk everything he’s sworn to protect.
Because when Natalie’s life is on the line, there is nothing he won’t do to keep her safe—even if loving her destroys him.
New York Times and USA Today bestselling author Donna Grant delivers a gripping romantic suspense filled with danger, devotion, and a love worth risking everything for in the first book of her Sons of Texas series.

Excellent story. I loved all the drama and romance. Orrin certainly is in trouble but I'm sure his boys will rescue him soon. The characters were well written and were easy to visualize, I can't wait until the next part
I got this book from NetGalley and am voluntarily leaving a review

This was a fun read! I’m a sucker for a good second chance romance, and this one delivered. The suspense kept things interesting and had me hooked. I flew through it and now I’m already counting down to the next one.

Loved reading the exciting and engaging story. When Orrin is kidnapped for taking a biological weapon from the Russians, all three of Orrin's sons are flown home to find the weapon, Wyatt, the eldest, works with Callie, who is like a daughter to Orrin; Owen, the middle son, works with Natalie, his one true love he left years ago to keep her safe; and Cullen, the youngest, works with Mia, a pilot. Owen and Natalie fight off their enemies while trying to find what's in the vial, where Orrin is being kept, and whose in charge of their enemies. Read the highly recommended, wonderfully written full of mystery and intrigue, and another riveting story by the phenomenal author, Donna Grant. Can't wait to read the next story in the series!

Oh wow! What a great read! Grabs you from that start and doesn’t let go! Keeps you wanting more! Can’t wait for the next one! She’s a great author but has outdone herself with this series. The hero is a story about 3 brothers who are brought back from their branches of the service to find a bio weapon and rescue their father. The first of the series is Owen and Natalie’s story
I received a complimentary copy of this book from NetGalley. The opinions expressed in this review are completely my own. Thank you for allowing me to review
Plenty of nonstop action, tension, suspense, and intrigue - and yep, a sizzling second chance adds some spice to the mix. Bioterrorism, special forces, mercenaries, kidnapping - a total thrill ride!

Owen Loughman is a Navy SEAL and is taken off his current mission, put on a helicopter, and arrives in Texas at his ranch. When he’s walking towards the house another helicopter arrives and his brother Wyatt arrives. They walk to the house and when they enter they see it’s too quiet. Their baby brother Cullen is there and they find bullet holes and blood. They know their aunt and uncle have been killed. Their father is missing, who is also a Navy SEAL, and Owen’s ex walks out. Natalie Dixon was Owen’s high school girlfriend and he broke her heart when he left and didn’t say anything to her. She worked in Russia for a couple of years and now she works at the Russian embassy. She finds papers that she shouldn’t and has a hit put on her. Owen and his brothers split up to search for their father. Owen and Natalie stay at the ranch and try to figure what his dad has gotten in to. Natalie thought she was over Owen but one kiss and she’s about to fall for him again.
This book ended too soon ( for me 😆). Action. Steamy. Second chances. Cliffhanger. Owen is tough and protective. Natalie is stronger than she realizes and beautiful. Owen regrets hurting Nat and will do anything to get her back. Voluntarily read and reviewed this for Netgalley. It was an excellent, well written book.

I don’t usually like second chance romances but the suspense made it all worth it, I really enjoyed this book and can’t wait to get to the next one soon

I went into The Hero by Donna Grant expecting a solid romance, but it honestly surprised me in the best way. This book delivers that perfect mix of emotional depth, slow-burn tension, and just enough drama to keep things interesting without feeling over the top.
The hero is exactly what I want in this kind of story, strong and protective, but layered with vulnerability that makes him feel real instead of just another brooding stereotype. And the heroine? I loved her. She’s not just there to be rescued, she has her own strength and personality, which made their connection feel balanced and genuine.
The chemistry between them builds really naturally, and once it hits, it hits. There were definitely moments where I was fully invested, rooting for them and maybe even a little emotional (in a good way). The pacing was solid overall, though there were a couple spots that felt just a tiny bit slower than I wanted.
What really stood out to me was how immersive the world felt. Donna Grant does such a good job pulling you in and making everything vivid without overwhelming the story.
Overall, this is a strong four-star read for me. It’s romantic, engaging, and gives you that satisfying emotional payoff. If you like character-driven romance with a bit of intensity and heart, this one is definitely worth picking up.
Thank you for the opportunity to read this arc.
