A dark, gripping thriller that kept me guessing until the very end. Jiah's struggle against her small town's prejudice thanks to her serial killer uncle's legacy gets delightfully twisted when a new body mimics his work, forcing her into a dangerous game of cat and mouse.

Women just can't catch a break! I picked up Monster in the Mirror because it was one of the options in the Camp NetGalley list. The synopsis sounded right up my alley, but I honestly did not expect to like it as much as I did! Janasha Prabhu really knows how to spin a story. I thought I had it figured out, and while I was partially right, there was an entire plotline I had no idea was coming!
Jiah was a mess after the death of her girlfriend, Georgia, who the entire town assumes was killed by Jiah. I was really glad she had Kennedy, who was probably one of my favorite characters. The storyline with Estrella so fascinating, to me. Poor Lila didn't deserve any of it and David was such an ass. All of this to say, Prabhu wrote this in a way that made me connect and feel for the characters. They weren't just fiction in a book. I'm so glad I decided to pick this one up for my Camp NetGalley badge!

oved it. I kind of had a inkling on one twist but then a couple more showed up and I was like DAMN
HONESTLY GREAT BOOK. Kept me hooked and didn’t feel dragged out or like twists were there just cause. Was a fully thought out thriller.

Monster in the Mirror is the kind of horror that gets under your skin by focusing on its characters as much as its scares. Blending psychological tension with supernatural elements, Prabhu explores identity, fear, and the ways our own minds can become our worst enemies.
What stood out to me most was the atmosphere. The sense of unease builds steadily, making it hard to tell what's real and what's imagined, and that uncertainty keeps the pages turning. It's a thoughtful horror novel that lingers long after the ending.
Read if you like: psychological horror, unreliable narrators, slow-building suspense, and stories where the biggest monsters aren't always the obvious ones.
