Splish is about a little fish on the move, who sometimes ends up in some dicey situations, but adapts to get through. The story includes lots of fun action words that little readers will enjoy. The illustrations are very cute and colorful. They show the action of the story very well. I would definitely recommend this for younger kiddos as a read aloud or for early readers.

This book was fun and hilarious! Really cute concept, and silly - will definitely have the kids laughing. Splish is a fish that seems to get herself into sticky situations, but then she's able to get herself out of them...and right into the next one! The illustrations are colourful and engaging, I loved her facial expressions, they really added to the fun. The story was very appropriate for ages 3-7, my daughter is 8 but she enjoyed reading it to her little brother. It also takes us through some of the obstacles a small fish might encounter - getting caught by people fishing, snatched up by a bird, a meal for a bigger fish! I definitely recommend this story if you're looking for something fun and colourful to read to your kids. Big thanks to Astra Publishing for the opportunity to read this ARC in exchange for my honest review!

Splish is one of a kind! Splish's determination shines through in this book. Kid's will laugh at all the creative ways that Splish avoids danger! The vibrant colors in the illustrations pop out of the page. This is a wonderful read aloud as well. Splish will give kids all the giggles, and the twist at the end was adorable. The simple language and use of letters was also creative. I would recommend this book.

What kind of fish is Splish? This book takes you through Splish’s adventures for the day and how he gets into and out of trouble. I liked the alliteration of the text. It makes it flow well. I admired how the author used the same beginning and ending text. The pictures are colorful, with Splish blending into his world. They foreshadow what is going to happen next. The mom in me is worried about the little boy with one of his legs hanging out of the boat (he might fall in.) I could see my students wondering about that too. It’s also not a necessary part of the book.
Recommended for PreK-1st grade. Good book to use as an example of alliteration, it has a fun story. Thank you NetGallery for the preview.

This book is such a delight from start to finish. Splish is clever, playful, and pure fun, the kind of story that instantly pulls kids in and keeps them laughing. It is perfect for reading aloud, with a rhythm and silliness that make kids giggle and want to hear it again right away.
The language is simple but smart, and the humor really lands with young listeners. You can tell it was written with children in mind, especially those moments when they love to shout, laugh, and join in. It feels like the kind of book that quickly becomes part of the bedtime routine or story time favorite stack.
This is absolutely one of those books kids ask for again and again. It is joyful, engaging, and just plain fun. A guaranteed hit for little readers and the grown ups reading along. Easily FIVE stars.

Splish is an adorable, energetic picture book that delivers exactly what it promises—a fun underwater adventure starring a fish who’s ready for just about anything!
Splish’s optimistic, can-do attitude makes her an instantly lovable character. No matter what surprises come her way, she keeps swimming forward with determination, creating a story that’s exciting, funny, and full of heart. There are a few unexpected moments that kept me smiling, and I think young readers will enjoy discovering them for themselves.
The illustrations are bright, colorful, and full of movement. Every page feels lively, making it easy to follow Splish’s adventure while keeping even younger readers engaged. The artwork and text complement each other beautifully, creating a read-aloud that flows naturally from beginning to end.
This is a wonderful choice for children ages 3–7 who enjoy adventurous characters, expressive illustrations, and stories that encourage resilience without feeling preachy. Splish is a character I can easily imagine kids asking to visit again and again.

Splish grabbed my attention by the colorful cover page illustration, and the fact that it was about an animal.
My kids loved the fish, Splish, and his crazy antics. It was a cute book to read as the parent. The book was so colorful and engaging to read. My daughters were very excited to see what was going to happen with Splish, and also commented how the part with the Pelican was reminiscent of Finding Nemo which of course they love. I was a little nervous when it got to the part of the book with him in the boat (as our family does not eat fish-Fish are friends, not food!) but everything ended up working out in the end. I was glad the ending of the book was silly and lighthearted. It was a cute, quick read which is great for kids with short attention spans!
Thank you for the opportunity to read this book!

DK Ryland put together a delightful children's story. The dedication, in its brevity, grabbed me, so I interrupted my start to reading this book to look her up on Instagram. Thus, when I returned, I believed two of her characters to be her husband and one of her sons, but I'm not sure. Anyway I love the memorable, "catchy" way she wrote the story. It gets 5 stars from me because not only does Splish never get snatched up by anyone, but triumphs ironically at the end.

'Splish' by DK Ryland takes advantage of all the ways words can make us laugh as the author describes a series of hilariously unfortunate events that lead to a surprising ending. And if your child thinks “wiggle” and “zoom” are funny sounds to make, they’ll love the intonations while reading this book aloud.
I couldn't tell you what kind of fish Splish is, but her googly eyes and underbite are just as humorous and endearing as the story. She’s daring, and maybe a little afraid for her life, but she refuses to be the prey.
The silliness and cleverness of this colorful, adventurous story made us giggle. Thanks for letting us read it!

"Splish" is a silly, brightly colored children's book following the many misadventures of Splish, the fish. The text is simple yet smile induing and I can just imagine all the voice intonations you could use while reading it out loud. As a preschool teacher, I know my group of 4-year-olds would absolutely love that mischievous, little trick at the end.
As for the illustrations, they were very bright and I noticed the human characters had very clear facial expressions which could create great discussions with children. I'm also a fan of artwork that involves turning the book vertically, it always brings a little fun to a book.
All in all, this is a children's book I will be looking for to add to my classroom collection.

Splish is a hit!
Recommendation: If you love humorous stories that you can read aloud to both lower and upper elementary aged children!
What worked for me:
- Simple but bright illustrations and the non cluttered page layout made reading out loud easy.
- The humor kept both my 7 year old and 9 year old focused throughout.
- The story itself was sweet and you find yourself rooting for Splish, he just wants a bite to eat after all. .
- An all around lovable character, Splish had us giggling throughout.
What didn't work for me:
- I honestly have nothing that I could add here. I loved the book as a whole and will definitely be recommending it. My own children enjoyed it and so I would say its a great fit for Elementary school age children.

The bright, engaging illustrations brought the underwater adventure to life and gave us plenty to look at on every page. Splish is a fun read-aloud that had my kids laughing and cheering along.

This was a very cute story about a mischievous fish named Splish.
When Splish finds herself in an unexpected situation, she has to figure out how to work through it. The story is simple enough for younger readers while still delivering a meaningful message.
The illustrations were my favorite part. They're bright, colorful, and full of details that will capture the attention of little readers. Recommended for ages 3-7, this is a fun read with plenty of visual appeal.

Splish by D.K. Ryland is a simple but cute little story that will keep young ones on their toes. Splish is an adorable little fish who gets into all sorts of misadventures as they look for a snack.
The illustrations are so cute and colorful, sure to keep any kid's eye. And the story will keep their attention as they hear about Splish's wriggly adventures.

Splish is a book full of excitement. The reader is taken on the adventures of a fish who just wants to eat a meal instead of becoming one.
