Overall a good book. The first half was really good, and held my interest. When she was kidnapped and tortured was when I lost interest. The details went on too long and then King Julian started to get a different voice too. I like stories with paranormals and this book has merit. I just liked the first half better than the second half. Would still recommend this book as it did keep me interested throughout.

A new vampire series has arrived! This is my first book by this author but I noticed a few positive reviews and as I'm a fan of vampire stories could not resist. It begins with murder ( don't all the best stories?) and the reader is pulled into this crazy world where immortals hide in plain sight. Our heroine is Viviane, a tough no nonsense detective. She has a partner who really gets her and joy of joy her fellow officers are friends too! Finally a story that doesn't feature misogynistic guys belittling a female just because she has ovaries !
Viviane has suspicions about wealthy and possibly dirty Julian but he's so much more than she expected. Yes he is smooth, sexy and totally full of himself but from the start their chemistry is off the charts. Sadly unknown to Viviane Julian is hiding something that could truly blow her mind and yet the pull between them is inevitable . Drawn towards each other both will face obstructions but Viviane is deep into something that is far more dangerous than anything she has ever encountered. Secrets have a way of coming to light and boy does this author shake things up!
It's always exciting to read a refreshing new take on vampires. I will be frank and say there's a lot of descriptive prose here which many readers will lap up but it felt overdone at times to this reader. I prefer dialogue and action not internal naval gazing and possibly a different beta/editor would have tightened this up. The constant descriptive imagery just pulled me out of the story from descriptions of eyes or hair( which weirdly seemed to change colour from honey to copper!) and the one that had me laughing was Merlot described as crisp because that sounds more like a white wine to me. Although I'm well aware that others enjoy seeing and feeling what the characters experience so will not let that colour my judgement too much. So what did work for me? It's a whole new way of viewing how immortals might coexist amongst us. I cannot deny the intense passion that keeps pulling the couple together but I didn't understand how if Julian was King how other vampires could hold sway over him. I'm a little confused about the time line ( weeks or months?) but once the story gathered pace and things really started to happen it became a much more engaging read. I won't give too much away but Viviane goes through truly terrifying ordeals that will have you cringing . Now luckily the author clearly realises that her readers want to be on the edge of their seats and yet still get an ending to leave them smiling. An interesting beginning and I'm curious how Ms Shaw will continue with this series I was gifted a copy through Netgalley in exchange for an honest review

Simply put, I was blown away by Divergent Bloodline. The plot is intertwined by the world created, offering a completely new outlook on what we often read. From the first chapter, until the last sentence I was captavated and can see different directions this could go. Amazing story for sure.

Received through NetGalley for an honest review.

Wow. If I could give it more than five stars I would. I didn't know what to expect when I choose this book but I am glad I did. Both of the main characters, a woman and a man, are very strong willed and don't take it for anyone. If you enjoy paranormal with romance and detective you will love this.

The main characters are a woman cop searching for a murderer and a man his more than human who will change her whole existence.

Suggest for mature readers only due to violence and sex.

This book was pretty good, but I wasn't all that impressed with it. I think if things were paced out better it would have been more enjoyable. The first half was pretty uneventful with everything happen in the latter half. And I mean everything. So much happens but so many things are just not explained enough or at all. I think if we were given pieces throughout and been told more about them it could have been better because some of the things we find out were really cool and I would have liked more on them. I did like the world created here and the hierarchy of the immortals. The characters were also pretty well developed. I just hated how Viviane always pushed Julian away with her cruel words and actions. Characters like that annoy me to no end. I liked Julian because he was the immortal king of the western clans, and who doesn't like a man with a title like that? But he was kind of sappy when it came to Viviane which was a little off putting at times.

Julian meets Viviane when she is working a case on one of his murdered employees. Immediately Julian's beast wants Viviane as its own and Viviane herself can't help her attraction toward Julian no matter how hard she tries. Soon enough they're dating and Viviane is about to find out that there's more to the world, and her lover, than she thought possible. But not only that. There's also more to her than she ever could have guessed and she's going to have an important role in saving her love's people.

Divergent Bloodline Kindle Edition
by T J Shaw
I received a review copy via NetGalley for review purposes

DB is more than your average PNR or UF. TJ Shaw has created a fascinating new vampire type, world and great female character who is as powerful if not more than her hero!

I discovered Shaw from an ARC and instantly fell in love with Viviane in a way haven't fallen in years. Honestly, not since I picked up my first Rachel Harris novel. Yes,Viviane is that great! She is strong, holds her or overcomes situations that the hero is having trouble handling. Her past is tragic but the fact she has grown so far beyond it. Her passion for justice is only rivaled by her love for Julian, the Immortal (please, vampires are so passe'!)King, the ancient leader of the failing vampire clans and her mate.

Shaw has an amazing touch at all important PNR/UF/ACTION novels. She gets the emotions down, to the point you begin screaming at the book that NO! THAT CAN'T HAPPEN! Or begging the characters to do something. She masters that. The action, wow, ending battle! Just wow! Well done, madam, well done. And of course the steamy scenes, or eroticism. Oh, yeah!

This book is a fantastic trip into what I hope is a continuing series (Wilson, anyone? I'm much about Team Wilson) and a world to play in.

5 sexy immortal stars out of 5

I very much enjoyed this book. I loved the character development of Viviane from a cop to a mate, with all the highs and lows that happened in between. This is a nice, fast paced read that the storyline brought quite a bit of complexity into an otherwise typical romance. Divergent Bloodline is well written, with a broad, complex storyline that leaves plenty of room for future books, which I for one would love to pursue. Well done, and thank you for the opportunity to review!
