Description

In a house on the corner with a big red door, a very nice family of four is preparing for the magic of Christmas. But they aren't the only ones watching the season unfold. Living quietly in the baseboard is Millhouse, a courageous and curious little grey mouse with a perfect view of the world above.

As the house fills with "strange" things like twinkling lights, stockings, and a giant pine tree, Millhouse finds himself filled with questions. Who is this mysterious "Santa Claus" everyone is waiting for? And why does this time of year feel so different?

Determined to find the truth, Millhouse hatches a bold plan: he’ll secure his tiny folding chair high in the branches of the Christmas tree and wait for the jolly old elf himself.

Join Millhouse on a snowy Christmas Eve for a chance encounter that changes everything. From his tiny seat in the tree, Millhouse is about to discover that Christmas isn’t just about presents and reindeer—it’s about a much bigger story of love, hope, and the greatest gift of all.

In a house on the corner with a big red door, a very nice family of four is preparing for the magic of Christmas. But they aren't the only ones watching the season unfold. Living quietly in the...

Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for the ARC!

Millhouse The Christmas Mouse by Frank Cerio is a really cozy, feel-good holiday read. It has that classic Christmas story vibe, warm, a little sentimental, and centered around kindness and giving.

Millhouse is such a sweet main character, and the story leans into those simple but meaningful messages about helping others and what really matters during the holidays. It’s definitely more on the gentle side, which makes it perfect for younger readers or a quiet bedtime story around Christmas.

And the illustrations are absolutely breathtaking! My kids will adore this book during Christmas.

Overall, it’s a cute, heartwarming read that feels very on-theme for the season and would make a nice addition to a holiday book rotation.

This one was such a sweet little holiday read. I read Millhouse the Christmas Mouse with my 4- and 8-year-old granddaughters, and it completely pulled them in. The story follows Millhouse, a curious little mouse watching Christmas unfold from inside the walls, trying to make sense of all the magic happening around him—and it’s just as cozy and heartwarming as it sounds.
What really stood out right away was the artwork. It’s soft, festive, and full of those classic Christmas details—twinkling lights, a big tree, stockings—that kids naturally gravitate toward. My granddaughters loved pointing things out on each page, which always makes a book more interactive and fun to read together.
The story itself is simple but meaningful. It captures that sense of curiosity kids have around Christmas and gently brings in a deeper message about love, hope, and what the holiday is really about. It’s the kind of book that feels like it belongs in a yearly rotation during the season.
The only small thing I noticed is that the font can be a little hard to read at times, especially if you’re reading quickly or in lower light—but it didn’t take away from the overall experience.
Overall, this is a really cute, cozy Christmas book that younger kids will enjoy, especially as a read-aloud. It’s one of those stories that creates a moment—and those are the ones that tend to stick.

I always read a book before I share with my children and the children's groups I read to. This ensures no surprises come up as we read. The only surprise in MILLHOUSE THE CHRISTMAS MOUSE is how endearing the story is and how warm you'll feel toward a mouse when it ends. Millhouse displays the same wonder towards the Christmas story as any small child does. Children hide and try to catch Santa; Millhouse has a folding chair he disguises as an ornament so he can see for himself what all the fuss is about. I read with seven different children's groups, and all of them loved Millhouse. No one age group loved it less than the others; in fact, the older children read the book a second time to the younger ones. In a world where interactions between children run strictly along age or interest, Millhouse brought them all together.

Frank Cerio......they want more.

I gratefully received this ARC from Netgalley. However, all thoughts are my own.

Perfect for those who love the classic Night Before Christmas and Polar Express picture books.

I absolutely loved this book. It was incredibly sweet and engaging from the start. I didn't realise it was Christian, so I was expecting a regular Santa story, but this one blended in Santa and Jesus seamlessly, which is a difficult thing to do with many Christians. I personally, like the book, believe you can enjoy both at once and not have to pick one or the other. Growing up going to Mass on Christmas Eve as a child, I truly felt such a heart-warming explosion of nostalgia the whole way through.

The illustrations were what really grabbed me, though. If you've watched or read the story The Polar Express, it has the same cosy, relaxing, sweet vibes as that, with soft lighting, beautiful twinkling Christmas lights, a lovely tree and dark cosy scenes lit only by the Christmas lights.

I also found the style very interesting. It felt like a blend of more classic Disney illustrations from the 90s or earlier (Winnie the Pooh came to mind), with more modern and crisp illustrations from Disney or Pixar from the 2020s It shouldn't work so well, but it truly does, creating what felt to me like a unique style and experience.

And since I've always lived in Australia, it has me wishing and dreaming of a white Christmas all over again, with the snow outside, the tree lit softly and the fireplace glowing gently.

As a primary school teacher, I couldn't help but notice this would make an amazing teacher book to use not just for enjoyment at Christmas time, but to build lessons around, like drawing their own mouse houses in the base boards, writing what Christmas means to them, or writing their own poems about the story. The possibilities are truly endless with a book like this. Whilst I may not have any children, I am absolutely planning on purchasing a physical copy of this book for myself and any future family. It is so sweet, charming, and cosy, with beautiful hits of nostalgia throughout, that I just have to get a copy.
