Description

Illian doesn’t care about saving Kalathar. He can barely be bothered to keep himself alive, guilt and ash lingering like stones in his lungs. Then again… when does he ever get what he wants?

A dull escort job spirals into a waking nightmare. In a land that rots in its sleep, a monstrous plague rewrites flesh and soul, turning men feral. Illian is dragged into a deadly conspiracy where noble blood is sacred, peasant lives are fertilizer, and bureaucracy keeps grinding on all the same.

He must outpace assassins, abominations, and the full weight of the law—this one’s mostly his fault—and trace the plague to its festering cyst.

All the while, his sanity is fraying, chipped away by a tantalizing voice that whispers salvation. It probably lies. To everyone.

Armed with just seven days, a knack for bad decisions, and serviceable sword skills, Illian must uncover the truth to save his own sorry skin… and maybe the kingdom.

Or there won’t be much left of either.

This was the kind of fantasy that feels like slipping into a shadowy alley at midnight and realizing everyone has secrets. Rich worldbuilding, dangerous choices, and a protagonist who keeps finding new ways to make life harder for himself 🫣🥷🏽⚔️🤣

🖤 Vibe:
A grim dark fantasy meets high-stakes adventure with a man who makes morally grey decisions, and a lingering sense of doom around every corner.

📚 Tropes:
✦ Morally grey characters
✦ Thieves & rogues
✦ Found family
✦ Dangerous quests
✦ Political intrigue
✦ Secrets and betrayals
✦ "One more bad decision won't hurt" energy

If you love a darker fantasy filled with intrigue, difficult choices, and characters who spend an impressive amount of time making their own lives complicated, this one's for you.

A Thief's End is an engaging fantasy adventure that blends fast-paced action with intriguing character development. Antonis Vasilakis crafts a story filled with danger, clever twists, and high-stakes choices, keeping readers invested from beginning to end. The protagonist's journey is compelling, balancing personal growth with the challenges of a richly imagined world. While some plot elements may feel familiar to seasoned fantasy readers, the strong pacing and immersive atmosphere make it a rewarding read. In sum, it's an entertaining novel that will appeal to fans of classic adventure fantasy and morally complex heroes.

Both a new to me author and a new to me book that I really enjoyed! The plot twists were well done, there were some I didn't expect which kept me on my toes reading. I also really liked that the book had multiple POVs, that's all I want in my fantasy books is different perspectives! It was a solid read and creative fantasy book.

Thank you for the ARC in exchange for an honest review!
