From Book 1, Rend the Dark

Atmospheric, fast-paced, engaging quick read, with a satisfying story and glimpses of Supernatural and King's IT. This is definitely a series I can get hooked on and look forward to month after month.

Rend the Dark really is a good old-fashioned horror adventure with an exciting plot and strong characters that you would root for from beginning to end. Like A Reaper of Stone, Rend the Dark is very fast-paced and has an intriguing story that can really pull you in.

Seriously, these guys are simply way too good at this writing thing they do. How do you come out of the gate with a series of books that are so polished, so deep and complex feeling in so few pages with such interesting characters that feel wholey fleshed out, yet you know there is so much more to learn about them ?! This second installment of Ferran & Merieas story gives us another dark and action packed tale that hits all the right notes and once again leaves you wanting oh-so-much more from these guys. I know its difficult creating stories this well done, but, honestly hurry up and give us more. Best series of tales I have found/read in a while. Simply great.

This is the second novella in the Rend the Dark Series. I love horror and I loved the first book. nothing’s changed with this second installment.
We continue on with Ferran Mireia and now Riffolk toward a place that gives Mireia the worst night terrors, so you can already tell it’s going to be something good…or maybe I should say bad. They come across an abandoned mining town except for one survivor who tells tales of monsters. Im not going to say anymore than that because I don’t want to ruin anything.
We learn more about the relationship between Ferran and Mireia, and about Ferran’s tattoo’s, yea his tat’s are all kinds of special, we still don’t learn about Mireia’s chanting or that mysterious lantern, so if you’re reading this expecting an explanation, you will be disappointed. But, the authors do let us in on Mireia’s other secrets so that practically makes up for it.
There are lots of new nasties in this book, and for some reason the opening chapter and the chapter where our 3 intrepid heroes reach the town remind me of the movie 30 Days of Night. No, there are no vampires sparkly or otherwise, I think it had more to do with the snow and death and abandonment. And then that ending! What!? WHAT!?
If you’ve read the first book and liked it, or if you’re a horror buff especially one who loves a mishmash of creatures with a little magic epicness thrown in, I highly recommend this.
