Description

A HI/LO* title written in verse formatting.

Stella Stig is the middle child in a family of exceptional spacefarers. Her mother is a top-notch pilot, her dad an engineer, her older brother a galaxy-famous biochemist, and her younger sister a computer wiz. In a family of geniuses, Stella is just a “normal” kid. She likes to stay in her room and play VR games, claiming that real-word friends are overrated. The Stig family’s latest job is flying their spaceship—the Solar Wind—safely to Skoll. But soon after their journey begins, space pirates attack the ship and hold Stella’s parents hostage. With the help of her little sister and a potential real-life friend, Stella must harness her VR skills in order to save her home and everyone she cares about.

This was a fast-paced and entertaining sci-fi adventure that kept me engaged from start to finish. I really enjoyed the space setting and the sense of danger that followed the crew throughout the story. The action was exciting, and there were enough twists to keep me guessing about what would happen next.

Thank you to NetGalley, Rosen Publishing Group, West 44 Books, and Demitria Lunetta for the opportunity to read Trouble on the Solar Wind in exchange for an honest review.

Trouble on the Solar Wind is a science-fiction novel for a teen audience written as a novel-in-verse. This HiLo style makes for an engaging read for teens as they follow the first-person perspective of Stella. Her family takes passengers through space to various planets on their ship, the Solar Wind. This trip is to Skoll, a newly founded planet that already has a bit of a rough past.

Stella wants nothing more than to play VR in her room. Her brother and (10-year-old) sister outpace her in the genius category, and she is stuck with checking in guests, since that's all she is really good for. One guest, Zenna, seems to have a bit of anxiety about travelling, which has to do with her past. Stella does her best to make the girl comfortable, but she isn't really good at that either.

When pirates take over the ship, Stella has an opportunity to prove her worth by saving her family from the pirate captain, along with Zenna's help.

Fun fact: Zenna is the same character from one of Lunetta's other HiLo space novels, The Last Star Chaser, of which Zenna was on the ship that crashed on Skoll. You can read her story and then enjoy Trouble on the Solar Wind with the knowledge of her back story, or you can read this book first and go enjoy Zenna's story after. Either works!

Yet another fun space adventure from Demitria Lunetta. I love the verse style with the enjoyable format of conscientious line breaks and use of text boxes. The science fiction element is just enough to be immersed and not really question it, as space travel to other planets wraps those fun elements in a bundle. A must-read for lovers of poetry and seekers of teen space adventure!

I received a copy of this book from the publisher.

I loved getting back into a world I’d previously read. I had no idea going into it that it was a sequel, but it was a pleasant surprise. I liked seeing what became of the characters from The Last Star Chaser book. It was such a creative way to tie the two books together. I loved meeting Zenna again, she seemed to have improved a lot since the previous book.

I loved the dystopian feeling in the last book and this really continued that feeling and I enjoyed it so much. With the space travel, the ending towards a new planet that people want to explore. Meeting evil space pirates and seeing how space families lived. It was so cool and I had a great time exploring it all.

I really liked that Stella was basically treated as the waste of the family but was the strongest one, the only one to take actions to do something, especially when literally no one else in the family dared to try. She had Zen at her side and her tech sister Andromeda hiding but was there to help. Stella was great and so much braver than you’d expect her to be, I really liked seeing how she managed to become the heroine she dreamt of being.

The pirates were ferocious and was such an unexpected but very clever twist In the story. I loved the way they were described and what they planned on doing and how It made for so much extra drama within the story, it made it all the more gripping.

I’m really not much of a space story fan, but I had such a fun time reading this one and seeing the dystopian world as it was here. A great Ya verse book that shows a very scary future with space travel, new planets and pirates coming to take everything. Such a clever and creative book that I had a great time reading.
