This is such a nice format to read with kids. It is simple and sweet but very helpful and easy for them to connect with and understand and remember so it’s repeatable.
I read this one with my kids and we had a nice and very intentional moment together talking about feelings and breathing through the book. It is helpful to connect the prayer to a breath so it’s not something too long for them to repeat with you.
This book touches on the hard hitting struggles a little one can feel in a very approachable and light way. I can see us coming back to this book when they have a tough day or just for fun because it is written very nicely with cute and fun rhyming and adorable illustrations.
The animals throughout are very sweet and you can tell a lot of heart went into the writing and design of this book.
Loved it! Will definitely be getting a copy once it is released.

This book combines spirituality and mindfulness to create a phenomenal resource for kids. Although it is especially beneficial for big feeling kids, every kid can benefit from this book. The quick, practical approach will be valuable for families.

Breath as Prayer for Kids by Jennifer Tucker captivates from the very first pages with its soft, warm illustrations and charming forest characters (such as the fox, bear, raccoon, and deer) that help children visualize various emotional states.
The author gently introduces young children to the basics of somatic grounding using intuitive and relatable metaphors—such as "slowly smelling the flowers in" and "blowing the candles out". It is particularly valuable that the book teaches children how to navigate not only anxiety, fear, or anger, but also how to handle an overflow of happiness and emotional overwhelm, helping to bring the nervous system back into balance.
Special thanks to the author for the methodological section at the very end. The step-by-step teaching algorithm and helpful tips for adults turn this illustrated story into a truly practical guide on emotional intelligence for children ages 4 to 8.
Despite the religious context in the title, these short breath phrases work universally—acting as gentle, positive affirmations and tools for self-regulation that boost a child's confidence in their own safety.
This is a wonderful, calming book that is incredibly useful to have on hand at home.
