Description
The priesthood of all believers is a core Protestant belief. But what does it actually mean?
Uche Anizor and Hank Voss set the record straight in this concise treatment of a doctrine that lies at the center of church life and Christian spirituality. The authors look at the priesthood of all believers in terms of the biblical witness, the contribution of Martin Luther and the doctrine of the Trinity. They place this concept in the context of the canonical description of Israel and the church as a royal priesthood that responds to God in witness and service to the world.
Representing Christ is much more than a piece of Reformation history. It shows that the priesthood of all believers is interwoven with the practical, spiritual and missional life of the church.
Advance Praise
is the great privilege and responsibility of every Christian. Anizor and Voss rightly call attention to this important theme, explaining its Christocentric-Trinitarian grounding, its biblical unfolding from Adam to Christ and its historical development, especially its recovery by Martin Luther at the time of the Reformation. They also call for a recovery of the royal priesthood in the contemporary church and the seven priestly practices that are vital to the church's ministry and mission. This is a fine example of theology retrieval for the sake of church renewal."

Some books are good and others are great: they enslave you with each passing thought; soak you in downpours of unmatched wisdom and embrace you with captivating knowledge. As you read, you only wish for one thing: that every key point be tattooed to your heart forever. Uche Anizor and Hank Voss wrote such a book in Representing Christ. You are doing yourself a disservice if you don't read it.
But why is this book so important? Anizor and Voss join hands to dismantle one of the greatest deceptions of the 21st century. The church is divided. I am not talking about the 30,000+ Protestant denominations in the world. The church is wrongly divided into the secular and the sacred, the lay and the clergy, the vocation and the calling. I guess you see were I am going with this.
Here's the problem: as long as this division persists the church can never fully stand up as a true representative of Christ. Anizor and Voss traces through Church history the origins of the division. They go further down memory lane and successfully showed that the early church always believed in priesthood of all believers.
But if we base a doctrine out of historical findings without scriptural backing we can easily fall in to the lies of heresy. Anizor and Voss didn't settle for a history lesson. They skillfully revealed how from Genesis to Revelation, the Bible encouraged the priesthood of all believers. Simply put: from the garden of Eden till now, God wants you and me to be his true representatives on the face of earth.
One thing I liked about Representing Christ is Anizor and Voss didn't leave the reader wondering what being a royal priest looked like. They didn't present priesthood of all believers as a cool idea we should just agree on, they challenged me to take it up as a way of life. A mother should do her priestly work as she prepares dinner, a father should serve his family at the playground. Priesthood of all believers means taking the gospel to the marketplace.
Representing Christ: A Vision for the Priesthood of All Believers Publisher: IVP Academic
The doctrine of the priesthood of the believer, is unknown and misunderstood by many Christians.
Currently, there are few books that address this issue so seriously and objectively.
The book "Representing Christ" by Uche Anizor; Hank Vossm, is a book that will enrich our knowledge of the doctrine.
The author describes the doctrine from its historical background to the practical aspects. A very good book.
