Description

Gilmore Girls meets The Notebook in this small town romance with heart, humor, and heat.

Colt Mitchell was a charity case, taken in by the prominent Sinclair family to keep their star quarterback son on track. After three years under their roof, Colt traded in his broken background for the Marines, dead set on leaving Holly River for good.

Alice Sinclair was a dreamer, growing up in a house that worshipped trophies. Colt, her brother’s best friend, was the only one who truly saw her. When he left, Alice flooded his mailbox with hope—letters he devoured, but rarely answered.

Until the last one arrived.

Now Colt Mitchell is back. And the kid sister he remembers is gone. In her place is a woman on a mission. Alice has three months to turn her childhood home into the bookshop of her dreams, or lose it forever. And Colt’s hellbent on ensuring that happens, because when Colt was deployed, Alice’s letters saved him. And now he’s come home to repay the favor.

But as the two race to finish renovations by the Fall Festival, and the heat between them rises, Colt realizes that the one woman who’s entirely off limits…is the exact one he wants.

Gilmore Girls meets The Notebook in this small town romance with heart, humor, and heat.

This was such a fun, heart-warming read! It's a perfect spicy small-town romance with two loveable main characters that have SUCH PALPABLE TENSION in every scene together. Colt and Alice are great together and built such a wonderful relationship throughout the book. They've known each other since they were kids (Alice being 5 years younger than Colt, with them meeting when she was 11 I think?) and I absolutely love how the author includes flashback-esque scenes so we can see how their relationship developed even back then.

It's hard for a brother's-best-friend romance to not come across as pine-y and whiney (if that makes sense), but Tori Ford does an excellent job in this book. Even though Alice had a crush on Colt when they were younger, you really get all of the story and development of their relationship as adults. The friendship as children is just a solid building block for everything else we get in the book.

The book has (minor spoiler) <spoiler>a really (almost too) idealistic and perfect Happily Ever After. Like every single thing goes right for everyone involved, to the point where it felt somewhat saccharine. But I'm all for HEAs and if you're looking for a super sweet book that makes you feel good, this is it!</spoiler>...

Highly recommend for a fun, spicy read! I'm really looking forward to following this author for the next book in the series!!

“You are everything I never allowed myself to want.”

I crave palpable angst in my romances, and Fallin’ Tides delivered in spades. Tori Ford writes with brightness and joy but doesn’t shy away from the hard stuff either. I loved it!

Colt and Alice haven’t seen each other since they were kids. Five years Colt’s junior, Alice always harbored a little crush on her brother’s best friend. But then he went off to the military, and she made it her mission to keep his life as hopeful as she could by sending him letters full of optimism. Even when he stopped responding, she never wavered. But now he’s back, and he can see close up that all the positivity she packed into her letters was used to hide her own pain and loneliness. They aren’t kids anymore, and he’s not staying, but once upon a time, her letters were all he had to get him through the day. The least he can do is help her dreams become a reality before he walks away again. The only problem is, this time when he goes, he’s going to break both of their hearts.

this and that:
♡ brother’s best friend
♡ dual pov
♡ friends-to-lovers
♡ grumpy x sunshine
♡ military mmc
♡ opposites attract
♡ open door spice
♡ small town

triggers:
☞ neglectful parenting
☞ PTSD due to military service

Fallin' Tides was such a heartfelt read! I had all the feelings!

As soon as I read the blurb on Netgalley I knew it was a book I wanted to read and I was over the moon to receive it as an ARC

It's small town, brothers best friend, friends to lovers with a military MMC trying to escape his troubled past and an FMC who wants to follow her dreams of owning a bookstore but doesn't believe in herself, but he believes in her and shows her just how strong and able she is!

Sometimes you don’t need a book that’s going to emotionally wreck you. Sometimes you just need one that makes you smile…and consume your entire Sunday afternoon. I literally read this book in one sitting. Once I started, I had to know how it ended!

Thank you to Netgalley & Tori Ford for the opportunity to read an ARC of Fallin’ Tides. (All thoughts are my own.)

Fallin’ Tides is such a fun, feel good read. It follows Alice as she returns to her small hometown of Holly River, where she’s reunited with Colt, her brother’s best friend. The brother’s best friend trope absolutely delivered, and there was just enough plot and angst to keep me invested without ever feeling too heavy. The small town, her best friends & the townspeople definitely gave me Gilmore girls vibes. And yes…there’s plenty of romance. ❤️

If you’re in the mood for a sweet romance that’s easy to get lost in and leaves you smiling by the final page, I’d definitely recommend this one.

I already can’t wait to return to Holly River for the next book in the series!

Thank you to NetGalley, the publisher, and Tori Ford for the opportunity to read this ARC in exchange for an honest review.

Fallin’ Tides is a heartfelt, emotional small-town romance that completely swept me away. It perfectly balances longing, healing, humour, and undeniable chemistry, making it impossible not to become invested in the characters from the very beginning.

The friends-to-lovers and second-chance elements are beautifully woven together, creating a romance that feels both authentic and deeply emotional. The small-town setting is warm and immersive, adding so much charm and making Holly River feel like somewhere you’d happily return to.

Tori Ford’s writing is engaging, heartfelt, and effortlessly draws you into the story. The emotional moments hit hard without ever feeling overdone, while the romance develops at just the right pace, leaving me rooting for the characters every step of the way.

If you love emotional contemporary romance with memorable characters, plenty of heart, and a beautifully crafted small-town setting, this is one to add to your TBR. I can’t wait to see where this series goes next.

What a sweet, sweet romance. I absolutely loved our two MC's, Colt and Alice. They immediately had my heart! The writing comes across as very authentic while still offering a cozy, friends to lovers romance. I finished this book in 24 hours because I could not put it down.

I really loved how Colt took no nonsense for his girl but respected and highlighted her independence and strength. Alice was so strong but still was kind, my favorite type of FMC.

Thank you so much to Tori Ford and Netgalley for this arc, I cannot wait to have a copy on my shelf

Small town romances have such a way to my heart. Colt and Alice in this story were made for each other. I loved how Colt protected Alice when she needed protection but knew when to step back. The depression both of these characters had in the book was so heartbreaking but realizing at the end how much of a community they had behind them was so sweet. I loved the found family dynamic in this story and I look forward to reading more of these characters.

This book had me feeling my feelings, in the best way possible!

The romance felt genuine from the start, and the connection between the characters grew in such a natural, compelling way. Their chemistry and tension were OFF the charts. Their journey through the messy moments and tender ones alike was beautifully balanced, and the authors mix of softness, and emotional weight made the whole story feel warm, textured, and completely immersive.

It's been a while since I have loved the brothers-best-friend trope, but this book reminded me why I love it so much when done right! Colt and Alice have my whole heart, and I just adore them so so much! I also really enjoyed the friendships and loved watching Alice's dream of opening her own bookstore become a reality.

Also, can we just take a moment for the cover? It's absolutely stunning!

I'm honestly in awe of authors sometimes. The way they manage to take something as complicated as love and translate it into words is incredible. Tori Ford is definitely one of those authors.

Fallin' Tides completely swept me away. Alice and Colt's story was filled with so much yearning, tenderness, and quiet sacrifice that I found myself savoring every single page. Their connection felt beautifully developed, and I loved that the romance wasn't rushed. Instead, it unfolded naturally, making every moment between them feel earned.

And can we talk about the premise? A heroine racing to turn her childhood home into the bookstore of her dreams, with her brother's best friend helping her renovate it? I absolutely adored it. By the end of the book, I was ready to build my own bookstore. Preferably with a carpenter like Colt helping me along the way. 🤭

Colt completely stole my heart. His devotion, his quiet strength, and the way he cared for Alice had me swooning over and over again. The history they shared, especially through Alice's letters while he was deployed, added such an emotional layer to their relationship that made every interaction between them even more meaningful.

I also loved the found family element. Alice's friends were everything you could want from a support system—kind, loyal, funny, and always there when it mattered most. They made Holly River feel like the kind of place you'd want to call home.

This was such a beautiful start to the Holly River series, and I'm already so excited to continue. I have a suspicion about who the next couple might be, and if I'm right, I cannot wait. But honestly, even if I'm completely wrong, I'll still be picking up the next book the moment I can.

If you love brother's best friend romances, small towns, bookstores, found family, and enough yearning to make your heart ache, I can't recommend this one enough. 🤎📚🍂

Alice had always carried the stars in her eyes, and Colt made it his life’s purpose to ensure they never stopped shining.
He would never let her stop dreaming.

tropes: childhood friends to lovers, brother’s best friend, grumpy x sunshine, small town, military mmc

Sooo.. How does one move to Holly River?
What a fun, cozy and hilarious book. Honestly, this felt perfect. The yearning, the tension, the feelings, everything was there. It didn’t feel like I was reading a book, it genuinely felt like I was in the story (and I am very upset it isn’t real because I would’ve loved to follow her bookstore account), everything was so realistic. Their romance was beautifully executed. It didn’t feel rushed at all, it’s perfect pacing. The characters had insane chemistry, and I loved all of them so badly. It felt like a huge family that I wish I was part of.

This book reminds me of why I fell in love with reading. There is such an incredibly nostalgic feeling to it. You really go through the characters’ feelings with them, and honestly, it’s just a really really great book.

Tori Ford, you got yourself a fan. Will be looking forward to new releases.

Love. Love. Love. Love. Love

This is a
-small town
-brother's best friend
-slight age gap
-ex marine
-rough childhood (memory flashbacks)
-dumb exes
-Great friends!

This book has it all. Colt was a Marine for 8 years, and when he returned to his small hometown to sell his mom’s house. He sees his best friend’s little sister, who isn’t the 14-year-old kid he last saw. Together they work to build her dreams, prove her parents wrong, and support each other through the thick and the thin.

This book will have you laughing, wanting to cry, and smiling. It’s a great fall vibes read. There’s spice, so much love, and who doesn’t love love?

Fallin' Tides was exactly the kind of book I needed. After reading a lot of romantasy recently, this cozy small-town romance was the perfect change of pace. It was warm, comforting, and heartfelt while still exploring meaningful topics with depth and care.

What I enjoyed most was the relationship between Colt and Alice. Their shared history made their connection feel natural from the very beginning, and I found myself rooting for them almost immediately. Their romance developed at a comfortable pace, and I loved how they supported one another while each worked through their own personal struggles.

The small-town setting was another highlight - I live in a small town myself, so it's relatable. Holly River felt incredibly inviting, with its close-knit community, charming Fall Festival, and cozy atmosphere. It was the kind of place I could easily imagine visiting myself, and it added so much warmth to the story.

I also really appreciated the supporting cast. June and Maggie were wonderful friends who brought humor, encouragement, and heart to the novel, and they made the community feel even more authentic. Beyond the romance, I liked that the story touched on themes such as family expectations, abandonment, mental health, and finding your own path without ever losing its hopeful, uplifting tone.

The story leans more toward being a comforting, feel-good romance than one filled with major twists or emotionally devastating moments. Personally, that didn't lessen my enjoyment at all, but readers looking for a highly emotional romance may have different expectations.

Overall, I had a wonderful time with Fallin' Tides. It's a cozy, heartwarming romance filled with lovable characters, meaningful friendships, and a community that feels like home. I would happily recommend it to anyone looking for an uplifting romance that's perfect for curling up with on a cozy autumn afternoon.

I devoured this book within 24 hours. I feel like this rarely happens for me but I could not put down Fallin' Tides!

I absolutely fell in love with Alice Sinclair. She was so sweet and a little fiesty and just so darn adorable. We get to follow Alice, as she pursues her dream of opening a bookstore. We get to see all the struggles, both external and internal, that she faces. And who better to help this small town cutie build her dream than her brother's best friend who's returned home to tie up some business.

Our MMC, Colt Mitchell, is a sexy as sin former marine. Colt has faced many things over the years and suffers from PTSD. When he returns to Holly River, the last thing he expects to see is the girl he grew up beside. This man (& his brother Warren 🤭) occupied all of my brain space and boy when I say I didn't want him to leave? Please sir, take up all the space. The Micthell brothers are hot, hot, hot 🔥! I loved how much Colt supported Alice in her dream of turning her childhood home into a bookstore. Colt was everything I love in an MMC. He cared for Alice, and I loved seeing them open up to each other about what they were going through over the past 8 years.

Alice's best friend Maggie stole my heart when she entered the scene 3% into the book. I am OBSESSED with that woman 😂! She was hilarious and had me laughing my butt off. And her other bestie June was so cute too. I mean who doesn't love a woman who bakes? I reallly hope she and Dalton will be together 🤞! The cozy vibes were on point! The spice was spicccyyy! Oof these two were lighting my kindle up!

I'm so so excited for Burnin' Tides! I really really hope it's about Maggie and a certain firefighter who stole my heart ❤️‍🔥! If you love small town romances filled with cozy fall vibes, chicken queens, a girl gang that always shows up and hot former marines who know how to make a lady's heart go pitter-pat, then do yourself a huge favor and read Fallin' Tides when it releases on August 25th!

A small town romance? ✅ Brother’s best friend? ✅ Sunshine heroine ✅

Alice has a big, beautiful dream of opening a bookstore in her parent’s former home. She’s determined to make this happen and when her brother’s best friend, Colt, returns after years of being in the military, he decides to help make her dream a reality. Alice has been writing to him for years and has missed him dearly, but there’s a lot left unsaid as they go through a construction, an ex who won’t get the hint, guilt, and a deep yearning that they struggle to voice, until they don’t.

I absolutely loved this book. I am always a sucker for small town romances and this one delivered spectacularly. The author has done an incredible job setting up the town and investing us in Alice’s friends. I also love the romance between Alice and Colt. They soften each other’s edges and show how they’ve grown from being pseudo-siblings to something more with age and maturity.

This is such a sweet, heartfelt and spicy small town romance! Fallin’ Tides features a sunshine fmc, Alice, and Colt, a returned Marine who’s her brother’s best friend. I adore the friendship between Alice and her two best friends and I can’t wait to read the next book in the series! This book is a great mix of romance, spice, a large dose of yearning and growing feelings between the mmc and fmc. The dual POV and timelines really added to the storyline and understanding the history and background between the fmc and mmc.

I thoroughly enjoyed Fallin’ Tides and couldn’t put it down! I highly recommend if you love a small town romance, grumpy x sunshine book.

Falling Tides was exactly the kind of book I needed.

The friends-to-lovers romance was executed perfectly. Watching their relationship grow from childhood friends into something deeper felt so natural and authentic, making every moment between them even more meaningful.

Alice was a character after my own heart. As a fellow book lover, what could be more perfect than owning a bookshop? I absolutely adored her and found myself rooting for her from the very beginning.

One of my favourite parts of the book was the flashback chapters. They added so much depth to the characters and their relationship, making the present-day romance even sweeter and more emotional.

Tori, you've gained a new superfan! I'll be picking up every book you write from now on and recommending your books to everyone I know.

This book absolutely stole my heart. 🧡

It started off a little slow, but once the story found its rhythm, I couldn’t put it down. Alice and Colt had such effortless chemistry, and I loved every scene they shared. Their relationship felt genuine, sweet, and so easy to root for.

Watching Colt encourage Alice to chase her dream of opening a bookstore was one of my favorite parts of the story. His unwavering support and belief in her made my heart so happy. Their journey together was filled with warmth, laughter, and all the cozy small-town feelings I love in a romance.

The writing was beautiful, the characters were lovable, and by the end I found myself wishing Holly River was a real place I could visit.

This was such a fun, easy-to-read fall romance. I adored the small-town charm of Holly River! I also really loved to see how Colt and Alice came alive together. They both had so much pent up trauma — Colt with his mother and Alice with her unsupportive family — they both needed each other and the timing of when they came back together couldn’t have been any better. Seeing them build the bookstore from the ground up was so special and watching their relationship rekindle after all those years was truly heartwarming.

Fallin' Tides was everything I want in a small-town romance, heartwarming, emotional, and filled with characters that felt like home.

Colt completely stole my heart. He was protective, thoughtful, caring, and endlessly supportive. He never tried to change Alice—he simply helped her see the strength and confidence that had been there all along. Watching him encourage her to believe in herself and chase her dreams made their love story even more meaningful.

Alice was just as wonderful. She had such a kind heart and genuinely cared about everyone around her. It was heartbreaking watching her parents make her feel like she was never enough, and I loved seeing her slowly discover her own confidence and realize she was capable of so much more than she believed.

As a fellow book lover, I adored the bookstore storyline and honestly wished a place like Alice's existed near me.

The chemistry between Colt and Alice was natural, heartfelt, and impossible not to root for. I loved watching them navigate the line between friendship and something more while being unable to ignore the pull between them.

Maggie, June, and Dalton added so much warmth to Holly River, making it a town I never wanted to leave. One of my favorite emotional moments was when Colt left for the military. Even then, it was obvious he truly saw Alice for who she was, and that scene had me tearing up.

If you're looking for a cozy romance with lovable characters, emotional depth, and all the perfect fall vibes, I highly recommend Fallin' Tides.

Fallin' Tides by Tori Ford was such a stellar read from start to finish. Alice's dream of turning her childhood home into a cozy bookstore and Colt's return home after serving in the Marines was the perfect catalyst for this sweet, small-town romance. The letters Alice wrote to Colt while he was deployed meant everything to him, adding such a heartfelt layer to their story and making their connection feel even more special from the get go. Their chemistry is undeniable and it was so refreshing to read a romance where the main characters actually communicate with each other instead of letting misunderstandings or other people drag everything down.

The charming small-town setting and lovable supporting cast(even Warren by the end) made this story even more special, and I already can't wait to read their books. Every page felt warm, hopeful, and full of heart. I loved every second of reading this one, and it left me with the biggest smile by the final page.

If cozy small-town romances are your comfort read, Fallin' Tides needs to be on your radar.

This story follows Alice, who dreams of turning her childhood home into a bookstore, and Colt, a former Marine returning to Holly River after years away. They've shared a lifelong connection through friendship and heartfelt letters, and watching that bond slowly grow into something more felt incredibly genuine.

What really stood out to me was how supportive Colt was. Instead of trying to "fix" Alice, he believed in her before she fully believed in herself, and seeing them build both the bookstore and their relationship together made this such a heartwarming read.

Holly River completely stole my heart too. The town feels warm and welcoming, and the friendships—especially with Maggie and June—made me just as excited for the rest of the series.

If you love friends-to-lovers, small-town charm, bookstore dreams, emotional healing, and a romance built on trust and communication, I definitely recommend Fallin' Tides. I can't wait to return to Holly River. 4.5⭐

Cozy small town meets (mildly)steamy brother's best friend? Yes please! Fall in love with Alice and her partner in crime...when the only crime is getting a Bookstore built...Colt as they fight the struggles of turning her childhood home into her dream shop, while Alice also tries to help her friends and neighbors with the daunting task of a successful Fall Festival.

Reading these two growing as people both from flashbacks and their struggles you can't help but to want to hop into the story and be their cheerleader (or join into the comment section of the post Maggie makes to cheer them on lol).

I'm grateful for the opportunity to reading this book as an advance reader, and am leaving my honest review. I highly highly enjoyed this book and if you love emotional cozy with a touch of spice books I recommend this read!

I knew when I read the synopsis of this book that I would fall in love with the characters, and I wasn't wrong. Colt was taken in by Alice's family to be the best friend of their son, and to keep him in line. But then he decided to join the Marines. While in the Marines, Alice sent him letters that kept him grounded. Now, he has returned and determined to help Alice with her dreams. I loved Colt. he is everything you want in a MMC. This was the perfect slow burn!

I dove into this ARC read purely based off the description of 'Gilmore Girls meets the Notebook.' I've seen people try to fight the connections this book has to those two things but what I think the author is trying to say is there are elements of those stories wrapped in these pages for you to connect to why you love those things, giving this book a shot to match it. And I think it did.

If you love GILMORE GIRLS for:
- the small town that feels like a real COMMUNITY where they come together in celebration and in chaos, like Stars Hollow
- friends on every street with the brightest personalities like Sookie (but not of the chef variety, think baker and florist)
- small town shops that thrive in seasonal decor and charm (this is heavily based in the autumnal months)

then yeah, THIS IS FOR YOU.

If you like THE NOTEBOOK for:
- letters written over years, connection spanning nearly a decade
- yearning for something you can't have
- a man seen as 'less' for where he comes from
- a woman trying to reach the standards her parents set

then yeah, THIS IS FOR YOU.

I had so much fun in Holly River - the town with "its steady heartbeat where months are measured in holidays, festivals and homecoming parades." It felt like the show 'Virgin River' to me, just as much as 'Gilmore Girls.' It was cozy, cute, silly, and added a backdrop to the story that small town lovers should connect with. And Alice and Colt's story spanned YEARS of time - in flashbacks to their time growing up together, to letters he received while in the military, to the present building her dreams and reconnection. It was lovely from the start and filled with both humor and heart.

I do wish there were more letters, or more built into that middle connection between childhood and the present, but altogether it was a fun and fast read. I loved how supportive Colt was of Alice's dreams, and I adore how Alice saw the good in everything - she was pure sunshine and exactly the type of woman Colt needed. So yeah, I'll definitely read the next one because i need to know what happens next for Holly River!

── .✦ TLDR: You want a story that feels like autumnal bookish wet dreams - this is that. It's the small town, everyone gathers together in a crisis like Stars Hollow, love letters sent when time and circumstance separates them like 'The Notebook', and she builds the bookshop of her dreams with a sliding ladder ala Belle. All covered in a haze of autumnal months, baked goods, and town pride. Connection, community, and the cutest hea, yeah I ate it up.

Thank you NetGalley!
This book completely stole my heart! From the very first chapter, I was hooked by Colt and Alice's story. The blend of small-town charm, emotional depth, humor, and sizzling chemistry made it impossible to put down.
I loved the friends-to-lovers and brother's-best-friend dynamic, but what really stood out was the emotional connection between the characters. Colt's journey home and the impact of Alice's letters added so much heart to their romance, and I found myself rooting for them every step of the way. The bookshop renovation and Fall Festival setting made Holly River feel like a place I'd love to visit.
If you're looking for a romance that's equal parts heartfelt, funny, and swoon-worthy, this is an absolute must-read. I laughed, I teared up, and I finished with the biggest smile on my face. Easily a five-star read, and I can't wait to read more from this author!

As an ARC reader, I absolutely loved this story! From the very first chapter, I found myself rooting for these characters and completely invested in their journey. The pacing was so smooth, and every chapter left me wanting to keep going!

The author created such a charming world that I honestly want to pack my bags and visit this town. And fair warning… you’ll probably be craving cookies and pie by the time you’re done!

Now I’m already counting down to the next book. I have my guesses (and hopes!) about whose story is coming next, but honestly, I’d happily read a book about any of the characters introduced along the way. They all felt so well-developed that I wasn’t ready to say goodbye.

If you’re looking for a romance with lovable characters, a cozy small-town feel, and a story that will keep you hooked until the very last page, this one deserves a spot on your TBR!

This was my first book by Tori Ford, and wow, she completely blew me away! Fallin’ Tides is exactly what a small town romance should be. It captured all the emotions and I loved every single minute of it.

I was instantly invested in the town, the friendships, the past, the present, and of course Alice and Colt. I smiled, I laughed, I cried, and I related. Then came the spice! A perfect build-up filled with tension, passion, desire, and it felt so realistically raw.

I cannot wait to add a physical copy of this beauty to my shelf when it releases on August 25th. (I need my book trophy!!) I’m officially hooked and so excited to continue this series. 🏆

Thank you Tori Ford and NetGalley for providing this ARC. I am leaving this review completely voluntarily, and all thoughts are my own.
